A good recall is a potentially life-saving skill that all dogs should know. It's important for dogs to come when called, not only to prevent chasing games around the neighbourhood, but also for their safety and the safety of others. In this video, we'll show you how to quickly teach your dog to build a reliable recall. You'll learn how to prepare your dog to listen to the "Come" command around unexpected distractions and what to do if your dog only comes halfway to you and then ignores you. We'll also discuss how to fix common issues that can arise when training your recall, such as lack of motivation or attention. Whether you have a Golden Retriever or another breed of dog, this video has something for everyone. So if you want to teach your dog the vital skill of recall, this is the video for you!

My male golden can do all this stuff and do it well, he can even do it off lead. But as soon as we are in a place where there are other dogs playing he gose all deaf on me and no longer responds to me treats or toys. He just fixes on the dog and if he is on a lead on long line he will just lay down and Im trying to get him to come and follow me and he and it becomes a warr with a tight line, I can offer all I have on my bag and he wont budge. If he is off lead and he sees a dog he will blank my call and want to just run over and start playing and bec he is so far away the behavour is rewarded either by another owner fussing or a dog playing..... so I have to go get him and then its to late bec its already happended. If off lead alone recall is not so hard. So its hard for me to have him off lead in many places bec he is a boy who wants to play and see all around him and join in with stuff. I have beimg trying to get him to play fetch with toys on walks to no luck but he will play it inside. It seems to be really hard. He is now 1yr and 4 months and we have been doing all the basic recall and reward training from 8wks. He knows it and can do it but at same time he dont do it reliably. He has regular dogs he plays with and he is very well socialised to many places enviroments and people and animals. So whats going on around isnt novel to him. PLEASE if you have any advice I would love to hear from you.

Hey I just wonder if you were able to teach your golden to avoid distractions and recall properly? I have the same issues with my Toller (eh, those retrievers :p) and looking for a training scheme to implement

@@mateuszszatkowski8623 He is now 3 and doing better his long line recall around distractions is loads better and he either walks in a short lead or long line depending on where we are he knows what his recall is and can be 10/10 on his line around many things now however off lead recall around distractions is still a no go so to keep him safe he stays on lead at all times other than when we go to private enclosed fields, he knows the difference between on lead and off and he knows what recall is and how to listen bec he can do it perfected on lead so that's where he says for his own safety and he still enjoys lots of things and has personal dog friends he plays with regular at home. We also go on group walks he is just a typical golden and wants to be everyone's play mate however that is not a safe option in today's world.

Try doing this with a mental and friendly cockapoo. Not a chance. 😂 There were no distractions there.
