Now that I found you, I'll probably stay up way too late binge-watching your channel. So much cool stuff here that I really want to try out! I think my horse would love learning tricks. We don't know much about his early history, but I know that he learned some high level tricks in his time. I just have to figure out how to reteach and cue them. Easier said than done, haha. Anyway, thanks for all the great videos!

I love your videos! They are full of great info, straight to the point. Whereas most other videos i would watch for 20 mins and either not finish the video or not get good info from it. Your videos are excellent. They arent so short you learn nothing and they arent so long that people stop watching because its boring. Please keep making these!

This is such a great tutorial, very informative and safe for both you and the horse! I've seen a few other tutorials on this and some people approach it in all the wrong ways! You did an amazing job and really show you know how to communicate with your horses! Also love the fact you used both a pony and horse just to confirm that the training method works for both. Love it!

All of your videos are very helpful and inspiring! You also make it seem so easy, as I currently also have a Percheron QH cross and he seems to be a bit of a slow learner, but it's worth all the time and effort, nothing can't be fun whenever a rider has their horse =)

I tried this a little different with my horse. It worked so well. Although I teach my horse three different ways to rear.

Honestly I love liberty training so much. I am already learning so much from working with my current 12 year old ottb on simple things like respecting my space and liberty circles that he has just not been exposed to yet. I hope to one day teach things like this, but since other people care and ride the horse I'm working with right now, I don't want the always rearing thing to become an issue with him as he can get a bitttt obsessive lol.

Impressive series of videos. I do appreciate that you mentioned the bad behaviour that often arises from teaching a horse to rear. I have to say to the average viewer though, don't teach your horse to rear please, teach it to lie down, teach it to bow, just not rearing. I do training and fixing problem horses, and have had several brought in that had been ruined by inexperienced people teaching them to rear, they would simply rear all the time and were too dangerous to handle and ride for their owners. Rearing is something that very very easily overdone, unless you have perfect control and discipline it will become a problem. Even very highly regarded horse trainers will usually refuse to teach a horse to rear for those reasons (if the horse will be ridden by other people). If you still want to teach your horse to rear and feel you have the discipline and control to do so, consider what could happen if your horse ever needed to be rehomed and someone with less control and discipline were to handle him.

Nice! I like how you work with your two horses and I like how you only use body language and a little bit of treats. (No ropes or whip) Well the whip you use in a not threatening kind of way.

Thank you for showing how to make sure your horse doesn't always rear! I won't be using treats but I will use a high pitched rewarding voice and some pets down his face and back :)

This is such a good way to train this! Love the vid and will def be watching more! I know the concept of the horse getting too much control with it could quickly become an issue, but have you ever tried creating a cue for horses in the saddle to rear? I’ve seen a few horse actors who have the skill, and am curious as to the steps and behaviors of the horses that learned that!

What kind of treats do you use?

I would only ever consider teaching a mini to rear😂 so (like Nemo) if they did get aggressive it wouldn't be as intimidating as a big horse and probably wouldn't be as scary to fix as a big horse😂😁 (and I know ponies can still hurt you, one of the ponies at our riding school nips and kicks and it's scary but kind of funny😂)

been teaching my little mini popcorn to rear he just didnt get it, he would take it as "oh im not aloud to have a forward movement running after you" and he just stopped trotting after me... so i took a few days and fixed that and came up with my own method (this might not work for big horses) i picked up his leg and puled it up and he started with giving a little hop and eventually a bit higher so i started to raise a stick and now i can almost do it on cue! if you have the same prob as me try this (:

She was always very dominant, and sometimes I had some trouble with this. I think its interesting if you would do a video on this? I really like your videos and you and your horses. Hi! This is amazing as always! I'm not sure if you've taught your horses this, but If you have, could you do a tutorial on how to teach them to put their two front legs on a raised surface? I hope you understand what I mean, haha! xxx

SO COOL

With my horse I taught her the command to lift her left front leg, then the second and then to get the rear just gave the command for both at the same time. It was a lot safer than this and you get an instant focus on balance.

You should teach the people to trick ride. I think that would be really cool and how to teach our horses to just keep cantering and cantering until we tell them to stop

This is a great video, clearly explained and perfectly demonstrated! I have a question though: I saw this and thought yeah, thats a sensible, logical way to ask a horse to rear, so I tried it with my mare, as we have been doing some liberty and tackless work lately and she's been going very well. However, when I tried, she didn't go up but just shied away from me. To be fair, she is a little headshy and nervous natured. Can you offer any advice? :) xx

I do basic liberty with my horse, who is a 17 hh oldenburg, but I would be terrified of him ever rearing not on command or if I accidentally signal for him to rear! I think I would only teach it to a mini since I am not that experienced.

I love your channel. I have been training my two horses Liberty using your videos they are doing great. But I have a small problem with my gelding. When he rears he does not fold his front feet in they just stay straight. Is their something I could do to help him or fix this or does it just have to come naturally? I have a question with training my horse to rear. When he is following me and I try to get my horse into an upward stance he either turns to the right or left when I try to get him into an upwards stance. Will he still learn rear if he turns as I do what you do?
