Its fake and does not work
How to tell a FAKE Hiland 0-30V 2mA-3A power supply kit
The original Hiland PSU kit is great I have one and have used it for years. I decided to buy and build several kits and send them out to my viewers. All the kits received are FAKE, even those advertised as 'original'. Very disappointing.

the both boards are fake,orignal hyland boards have not been made snce the 1970's just that some fakes are better than others!.

They are not fakes. They are just different board reviews...Some of them are worse than the original, and some of them are better! This schematic is around for ages and everybody is copying and selling it as a kit! I have one of those "fake boards" and it works just fine but I have replaced some parts from the beginning, to improve its performance. Some boards have some parts orientation printed in the wrong way, mostly diodes.

None of the reviews/remakes of the Hiland boards work correctly. Did you drop a link to your video showing the working board? Nice to see your argument. The original circuit which I have already made videos showing is out there and everyone can go see it. This is not what we are talking about here. These boards which are not Hiland could have used different colour PCB to show differences. The sellers to the none working boards always use an original in the advert, which we know works and then sends the none working kits. After many messages to point out the error the sellers keep selling, not caring. Some sellers get their knickers in a twist stop communicating with the buyer and ebay refunds the buyer. You say some boards have component orientation reversed... show me, I have never seen that one. I look forward to seeing your working boards and the boards with reversed component orientation.

@@Elecifun it's true what are you saying about the pictures.They are just generic pictures that can be very misleading. When I buy something like this, I always check the reviews with pictures. There you can see what people really got. I don't have one with the reversed diodes on the silkscreen to show you but I can point that tD7 and D8 are marked on the silkscreen as 5V1 but they are in fact 5,6 Volts zener diodes.They revised the schematic but they didn't updated the silkscreen. When I'll have time, I'll make a video to show you that mine works. I have modified it a little bit to reach 6 amps but that's it!

Aside to the fact that between the“original”(yet still chinese too) and the “fake”(also chinese) the difference is that the 24v source is mounted differently and there are different manufacturer components, can you confirm that there are different specifications or non-functionality issues? And what are you doing with so many assembled boards anyway? Have you some industry or something?

Some of these board benefit from genuine TL081's. Maybe a complete set of genuine components would be the answer for all boards.

just swap the opamps for mc3401ap chips and they work ok ish!,still shity quirks tho like the original crappy design!

Thanks for the video I purchased a kit about 4 years ago, and it ended up in the bin as there were so many parts missing, it was just more China junk, I am glad I didn't waste my time putting it together, but thanks for the video, thanks Bob in the UK

Hi sir ! 😂 Well it looks like you were right about those transformers. I finally got around to testing my Hiland 0.**** to 28V 2A PSU. Those transformers I bought don't appear to put out much voltage or current. I don't quite understand the results though. Anyway we're are you sir?

This is good information Elecifun. Thank you.

You may find the TL081s are dodgy.

I tried different TL081Ss but I did buy them off amazon, still no good. I will buy some from RS Components when they get some in. I need more time to dedicate to this really.

@@Elecifun The other difficulty a tyro may encounter is mixing up the 1N4148s with the 5.1v zener diodes. My ones looked identical so I had to test them before fitting them to the board to find which exhibited the zener effect.
@Elecifun
@Elecifun 2 года назад
I did check those using a power supply easy to mix up but the seller did send them out taped together.

I have had the TL081's fail, too. UA741's work fine, instead, if needed. I have also had the big white snubber resistor fail, too. I like these kits a lot and just treat any failures as a troubleshooting test. Then it's kinda fun. I must have at least ten of these kits, but then they were only 4 bucks shipped when i bought them. Great fun soldering on a rainy day.

PS....always use a socket for the opamps. Saves a lot of hassle desoldering, later.

I built several of these, and there is absolutely NO short circuit protection, no matter where your current limit is set.
@Elecifun
@Elecifun Год назад
Sorry to hear that, I guess they were fake boards? I have two original, they both work fine. It's hard to find original boards as the sellers mix the pictures.

@@Elecifun Yep! Probably are fake. Didnt know there were fakes until i watched your video. Another design fail is if you have a 30-40 volt input and you set the output to 5-12 volts, that's a lot of power dissipated in the pass transistor!!

@@Elecifun yeah It sucks that they resort to trickery to sell stuff. Your right its hard to buy genuine Hiland 0~30v. 3A. Its a despicable bait and switch tactic.🤬 Which I particularly hate.
