diatomaceous earth is what we've used for 30+ years to treat all the animals on the ranch. We apply with a hand duster for our smaller critters, & use a python dust bag hung near the water trough for our cattle and mules. Old Montana secret that works every year.

I use DE on all my animals, and in feed for a natural wormer. It works great. Plus people can use it to, but if you have used it that long you already know that. 👍🏼

@MikeBarnes I love DE, I recently discovered my goats have lice and purchased a de product from Amazon for farm and animals so I have applied this on them. I’m still not seeing results. How long does it take?

Andrea I put DE on the ground where the goats are. I wanted to see how well it worked on keeping them wormed. My vet has been a vet for over 50 yrs. I took samples for him to test from everyone of the goats. He said in all the time being a vet he had never seen animals completely free of parasites. I’m sold on DE.

Get used street sweeper brushes the big back plastic ones then stick a post in the ground leave enough sticking up to side the brush over vertical. Spray Garlic and onion in a liquid form soak garlic and onions in warm water them blend it up strain then spray on. If it didn’t work at least you got a head start in marinating them.

Enjoyed the video as always. I used neem oil last winter but I put it on after the herd was infested. This winter I plan to apply it sooner. I used a spray bottle and just walk through the herd spraying. I don't recommend spraying their faces though. Funny how atv's attract the cows, I have the same problem. Good info. I am not sure about neem oil on the stump, but I guess we'll see...it won't hurt. To my knowledge the neem oil needs to make contact with the pest and I can't see enough transference from the stump to the animal to be effective, but I don't know. Being that lice have a 3 - 6 week life cycle, you will need to do multiple treatments of neem oil, DE, etc to catch through the cycles. But yes, the first rains and warmer temperatures will remove the problem. AND....LOL on the blooper reel!

Wonder what would happen if you threw out a big canvas ball for them to play with. We only had a few cows growing up but the cows and horses both seemed to enjoy playing with it, eventually it will get tore up. Gma and Gpa would get them a new one every year or two, or hide it for a while and give it back to them and the LOVED it. If you run across one Josh, maybe toss it out and see if they mess with it....? It was cheap entertainment for us kids lol.

Lice and their host has evolved along with each other to the point where most lice species can only live on a particular animal, that animal goes extinct & usually so does that specie of lice. Humans are rare mammals having bodies mostly hairless that we can have Two different species of lice living on different areas. Head lice and pubic lice (often called "Crabs").

The only thing I didn't hear you say is 'treat all your cows with the insecticide once.' Then isolate and treat any additions to your herd before you allow them to touch your already treated herd. Kill the lice once. And then do not allow reinfection by outside animals by treating them before you allow them into your already treated herd.

STONEY RIDGE I have a question concerning curing hams. My dad and I are going to try our hand at it. I have ordered curing salt to use on the hams for 6 weeks like your video suggested. We are going to use plastic bins and put the salted hams in them and inside an old refrigerator for six weeks. My dad had a question about drainage from the bins??? As in should he drill holes in bins for blood and moisture to drain??? Or maybe put a good layer of salt on the bottom to catch the blood and moisture???
@StoneyRidgeFarmer
@StoneyRidgeFarmer 3 года назад
You'd be better suited to put them in wooden boxes ...not plastic bins. It's best to have them outside in the cool or cold so you get some temp fluxuation, I would not do it in a fridge...typically the hams stay in the salt in the coldest part of a Virginia winter....daytime 40 degrees...nighttime below freezing for only about 2-3 weeks in the salt

Love your channel. Have watched several. 7:26 A little disappointed with this one. Don't know how to put this politely. But would you mimic a Black or Gay man to his face? This is a public forum, and not all of your subscribers use sunscreen in the summertime. It matters little what your intentions were. Try telling your wife she's overreacting. More importantly, you've brought up the subject of race unnecessarily. Racism is a contentious issue most often left out of polite conversation. Racism does exist, and it's no card game. What you think about others matters a lot to you and the person you hold misconceptions about. It affects many decisions you make sometimes on a daily basis. Your misconceptions may cause you to hire the wrong person, sell your house for less than its worth, pay too much for your next home, or vote for policies that are not in your best interest. One day, you may feel guilt for the people you've hurt, whether it was intentional or not. Sorry, most of my family is conservative, and in some ways, I am too. So I know how you may feel about this feedback. PS, how are your cadmium levels?
