How to tell if Wire Wheels are actual Real Deal Daytons

The subject of wire wheels can be confusing.
It doesn't help that wire wheels are referred to by so many different terms and misnomers: spokes, Daytons, TrueSpokes, Hundred spokes, goldthangs, centergolds, knock offs....and China's?!
In this video we discuss ways to tell if a set of spokes are made of stainless steel (Daytons) or steel. Stainless steel is more durable than steel, and it costs more money to produce. Stainless steel wheels will last a lifetime, if properly cared for. Stainless steel wheels also cost a whole lot more than plated steel wheels...trade offs!
Check out the video to learn a couple quick and dirty ways to tell if it's a Dayton, which is manufactured in the US and based in Dayton, OH; or a "China", so-called because they're manufactured by a variety of different companies located in China.

Stainless steel isn’t always non magnetic. Only if it’s been annealed (heat treated) is it non magnetic.

I purchased my Dayton’s straight from manufacturer in Dayton Ohio. Takes about 2 months to manufacture.

How fast do the chinas rust comapred to the daytons?

Daytons won't rust. Other wire wheels may not rust for years if they are kept clean and dry. However, if not well cared for, they could rust within months

Zenith as a company hasn't been around for quite a while. Original Zeniths were made in the USA> Today, people use Zenith centerchips and brand wheels as "Zenith", but they aren't really Zenith brand. We sell Zenith center-chips--you could put them on American made spokes, or spokes made in China

Can you or anyone tell me if the rubber seal on the inside of the 100 spoke rim can be replaced. In case your son gets excited and brings his brand new 100 spokes and Vouges to a corner used tire sales to have the tires put on the rim and the tire guy messes them up by destroying the rubber seal in the inside of the rim so the rims won’t hold air now… instead of waiting for dad to help him get them to the right place. Anyone have any suggestions and no judgement needed my son bought and paid for them working at Burger King he’s 18 and has a 91 Cadillac Eldorado 2 door he is putting them on and now he is bumming out so can anyone help me out??? Possibly

Sounds like your son earned those spokes! We're impressed! Is this a front wheel drive/ lip lace spoke ? Those can be a tricky install. We would be happy to check 'em out and see if we can repair them. We need to see how many spokes are leaking. Are you in the SF Bay Area?

@@RollingStock lol no where near California, from Rhode Island, but thanks anyway I was just trying to figure out whether or not that rubber is resealable and if it’s something that would be as good as new. Hopefully this guy that owns the shop that messed them up is gonna be a proper business man and fix the mistake made by the employee who didn’t know that mounting the tires on them rims was to be done a specific way will be paying for the damages. I feel bad for the employee but I do believe they were in the wrong and should pay for the repairs or new rims. Would you agree? Just out of curiosity.

Yes... The rubber silicone seal can be removed... And new rubber silicone added .. it's something that requires a steady hand and plenty of good water proof silicone.... And they definitely need to be warm.. so it glides around wheel
