I’ve always had low density hair from childhood but people made me think there was something wrong with my hair. After 10+ of self research I figured out my hair is medium strands with low density. There no magic products or oils that will make it more voluminous or thicker. Eating healthy makes your strands stronger. Darkening your hair with Amal oil give you the illusion of thickness temporarily. Learning to embrace your hair and having confidence to love your hair for all its unique qualities is most important to me. I wouldn’t call my hair fine because my sister has high density with fine strands. He strands are as soft as thin silk. My mum has coarse thick strands and high density. Based on the texture of the strands I can tell find, medium and coarse. Density is harder to compare in contrast because the band method only works on hair that is long enough to pull into a ponytail. The scalp parting section test is A better comparison.

I’m for sure going to try this, I think I have low density hair

The best way to check, in my opinion is by installing braids or two strand twists. I think the other way can be kinda hard to really tell. But, definitely let me know what you discover after doing the tests 😊

Seeing this video now I’m glad I start with instant loc for my second set and I did just 42 so I can have somewhat thick Locs. I have low density and knew I can’t have small Locs I don’t like seeing scalp hahha

My hair used to be high density but became low from a texturizer and using random leave in recipes in the past. The only thing that seems to maintain it is detanglimg with hair oil nefore, washing my hair in twists and plaiting in 32 sections right after with some melted shea butter. I've been looking into chebe powder and it seems like a good option. I just miss having volume so much. I tried a silk press once without any chemicals and thay works wonders. And using aztec clay or a clarifying shampoo once in a while helps clarifying my scalp but without too much drying. But I heavily avoid sulfates and parabens in shampoos and conditioners. I only use sulfate free shampoos and paraben free conditioners. Using a microfibre towel has also helped a lot. My hair definitely looks exactly like that thumbnail right about now.

Gosh I don't know what I have. I tried that thread test once and I don't feel it is accurate either. Because I have alopecia and the crown area and along the hairline, the ponytail method might not work for me either because of the missing hair. Your hair looks very healthy though.

That hair looks fine to me, it doesn’t look low density.

@gothika7822 low density has to do with scalp coverage. With low density fewer hairs are growing on the scalp and you can see the scalp very well, but fine hair is not the same as low density, as it has to do with the diameter (thickness) of the strands. Density= less hair strands. Fine= is not less hair strands just smaller diameter. You can have thick hair and still have low density.

Nope, fine doesn't mean low density...fine deals with Hair Strand thickness and density deals with how much hair is growing in a sqaure inch of the scalp. These are two separate things
