Just pull the VVT solenoid out of the motor and leave the harness connector on... Turn the keys ON and OFF and see if plunger moves....Do not start the engine..
@Zomby_Woof
@Zomby_Woof Год назад
So, assuming the valve spool doesn't move, what is voltage supposed to be from the ecu? If the solenoid isn't activating, it can be the solenoid, the ecu, or the wiring.

I would think putting 12-14v to selonoid could harm the coil as voltage at connector is putting out 8.6v. Is 7.5 ohms too low? What is the acceptable range?

Thank you for your very instructional video. That is exactly what I wanted to learn. On another note, I have a question that is making me scratch my head. I understand that the VCTs supply oil pressure to the cam phasers to adjust timing, is there a way to tell a bad VCT from a bad phaser without removing the valve covers?

The 2010 2.5L Kia Soul has 2. Waiting for the engine to cool off to get the left rear as facing the engine. I thought I had fuel pump problems due to car stalling when coming to a stop. Then hard start again. Fortunately my friends house was within 1/4 mile. Changed the pump. Ok same problem. Sometimes when I can get the engine to idle good I attempt to put in gear but dies. If keeps running I don’t get very far. I sure am counting on your lesson to fix as I don’t want to nickel & dime myself. The only other choice with have is crankshaft position sensor. Thank you

Good stuff sir! So based on your test with the key ignition to the on position the solenoid would be engaged and ready to deliver oil to the VVT timing cam phaser at startup 🙂(Then the engine control module makes adjustments from there)

@joynfan
@joynfan 2 года назад
Got code (Bank 1 Sensor A). checked both sensors they are good (replaced with new ones did not help - confirmation of sensors intact). Noticed oil leakage residues at the VVT Magnet Valve and below is what I did: 1. Removed the VVT control magnet control valve. the pin got little stuck at first but cleaned and then it moves freely. 2. Measure the voltage of the plug coming to it: measures VDC 7.6V, The coil resistance of the valve is 6.7 ohm. 3. Tested the magnet control valve with a 7.5V (and 9VDC as well) battery and the pin pops fine with both voltages. But when plug it back to the car it does not respond although the power from the plug has voltage measured at 8.3V. I've ruled out loose connection as it has no response even the power measured from the magnet pins is 8.3V. 4. the Solenoid itself looks fine and it move in when pushed with finger and springs back out freely. This is hard to explain from what the basic ohm law of high school physics.

I drive a Toyota matrix 2006, and I keep getting the p0012 error code. My vehicle was recently worked on as it was over heating. I had changed the radiator to a brand new one, also changed the belt, and also checked to see the fan had good current and was still effective, so I was left with changing the gasket as my technician said it had gone flat. Since that change was done, the p0012 error code has been on and I get rough idle and even rougher once the air conditioner is turned on. What could be wrong?

Hello, I took Out the Solenoids of my Alfa Romeo Giulietta and cleaned them. By connecting them to the car's battery to make them operate while cleaning them, I touched accidentally the to leads +&- together at one of the pins of the solenoid ☹️ After reinstalling them back into the engine, the car is not driving right. The car has lost its power and torque in the low and mid RPM...it just doesn't feel right 😔 Have I cooked the coil up,or is the valve grounded now after touching the two wires together?? The piston inside does still move thought , but since the car runs like crap
