If your car Battery is dead you may have a bad alternator! Some of the symptoms of a bad alternator are,
Your lights are going dim while driving.
The radio shuts off when driving.
Your cars gauges stop working.
Your heater stops working,.
Your cars battery keeps going dead.
Your car will not start/no crank.
If you are having any of these symptoms you may have a bad alternator and you should watch this video in detail to determine if your alternator is bad!

You showed us a lot of good information, but you missed showing us one crucial point. How and where to hook up all the test wires.

It's also a good idea to check A/C volts out from that Main Terminal engine running. Anymore than 1/2 a volt and your Diodes are bad, Simply Switch back and forth from DC Volts to AC volts you want 13.5. to 14.4 Dc volts and less than 0.5 A/C Volts. 2 test in one

Good video and informative, the only thing that I feel could have been explained out some is how you determine which wire is the exciter wire coming from the fuse box to the alternator . Most alternators have a tag showing IG, L ,and S wires but making sure which is the right wire to test coming to the fuse box the general public trying to fix it or test it might not understand how to determine which.With my car it is the L wire on Alternator plug which hooks to a yellow wire from the fuse box and yes they might be different on other models . Thanks for the video , I have the same issue with my Toyota Hilux Surf

this is a lot of work if you have the correct obdII programming software ie palmer performance you fire up the vehicle and the obdII you go into live monitoring while the car is running and in live pid section it will show live alternator output voltage. you dont need to pop the hood or anything and it takes 5 minutes flat.. this is an archaic way of troubleshooting...

The best and quickest way to test alternator is that when the engine running unplug positive of battery pole, if the engine still run smoothly it means that the Alternator is good.

Most alternators have integrated regulators and don’t need a wire to tell it to turn on... they sense the load from the output terminal... Also... it’s usually not cost effective to repair an alternator in a shop setting due to the time required to do an overhaul.... just pop a new one in and the customer is on their way...

A great video but one problem...I couldn't see a lot of what your were looking at under the hood. You need additional light coming down from the hood. The camera does not compensate for all the shadows.

Good video.... Sometimes when it's Less obvious I use an ampere meter afther a test like that, in some cases a slippery alternator belt can give you some trouble as well... Anyway just saying....

I still don't understand what you mean. I couldn't see how you attached the wire to the alternator. Pins? How do you attach a wire to the all the pins at once, you don't show this and where have you got the test light jamed in and why clamp the wire? I need to exactly what I am doing before attempting this.
