Thanks. Very helpful. All of the cars I've had to check the Alternator on I was able to see it and checked it at the Alternator. On my Sons Tundra, I guess Toyota decided it was a lifetime Alternator, and buried it deep inside the engine, so no easy access to it. This video was a great help to test it without access. Thanks.

Thank you! I'm not an expert but try to fix it all myself so harbor freight rules. My multimeter was a $7 impulse purchase along with some other cool stuff. Haven't needed to use it & not understanding how I could use it for my vehicle was weighing heavy on my heart everytime I saw it on my work counter. Great intro video. My battery and alternator are good ✌️

if it reads 13volts while running does it mean i need a new one

im checking my home use backhoe. 11.06 at battery. Exactly the same from alternator when running. shined up all connections and dialectic grease on the one plug in. No difference. Got to be a bad alternator? thoughts?

The new ones don’t have a 10A it’s a 5A is this a bad thing? Sorry new to all this.

Hey I have a 2016 Honda Civic. My warning like cane on saying “check charge system”. I change out the battery and the warning sign went away for like a week and it came back on. So yesterday 6-19-20 I bought the multimeter just like yours and test the battery when engine is off and it reads 12.6. Now when I start the car with ac, radio and headlights on. It reads 12.3. Is that mean the alternator bad?

Yeah, that means your battery is not recharging and your car is running mainly off the battery. I would say some type of alternator issue. You can take it up to Autozone or another place like that and they will test your alternator for free if you want to check.

The issue with this Harbor Freight multimeter is that they have almost no meaningful input protection yet are "rated" for 750 volts AC and 1,000 volts DC and up to 10 amps of current. They are okay for low voltage stuff at low amps, but I wouldn't go anywhere near a household mains or higher DC voltage stuff. The lack of input protection is well documented in many RU-vid videos on these meters. Okay around the car, or for simple functions like continuity, checking some electronic parts, testing a battery, etc. but otherwise be careful... BTW, this was a nicely done, well thought out video.

Well, I made this video 5 years ago before all this crazy inflation. Harbor Freight used to have 3-4 items weekly that you could just bring in a coupon and you got the free item. I loved it. I went almost every week just to see what the free item was. That has pretty much gone away in the last few years since poop hit the fan. @@fixitFlip that makes sense. I just came back from there, I saw one online for $3.99 but they said they only had a $6.99 multimeter. I bought it anyway, thanks for the video. You taught me something new.
