In this week's video I'm throwing and trimming a batch of narrow cylindrical vase forms. They're tricky objects to make and I discuss their creation, how and why I do certain things, together with sharing some tips and tricks along the way.
How I recycle clay: • How I Reclaim, Cut Wed...
Phil Poburka makes a majority of the trimming tools I use for stoneware.

I can’t believe how you can balance your ceramics business and your RU-vid channel! Either one is impressive enough on their own. But your videos are very interesting and informative, whilst still being calm and chilled-out.

You have no idea what a massive resource you have been for me as a begging self taught potter. Everything's explained so extensively and clearly. Really love your content man keep up the good work 🤙

You're so precise and even with your trimming that one day you really should try to glaze and finish a pot with just the initial trimming spiral (and the rim and the base of course)

I should probably get around to doing that, with a nice, runny glaze, it could look nice! Thanks for watching 🙌🏼

This is definitely another case of that magical moment in which RU-vid recommends me something I'd never in a million years actively search for, but now that I'm here, I'm hooked. Not only are you (at least from the perspective of a complete outsider to the craft) great at pottery, but you've got a great knack for making content out of it, too!

I’m glad I found you, Florian and your video on the tall thin vessel was perfect in addressing all the grey areas in my return to pottery. I relate to your technique and thank you so much☺️

I love trimming, it is my favorite part of the throwing process. It gives me the opportunity to give each form a bit of personality and allows me one last moment with my work before I move on to the finishing stages. Love your work sir. Thank you for sharing.

not for me, even after serveral years of part time throwing, this is an amazing watch that I am happy just to look at. Its also the first time I've seen a throwing stick being used, so its a win win for me. I love watching and listening to your videos, your voice is just right, explaining every move, almost letting myself think I could do that. But I will let the expert show me, that's you, I will just watch and enjoy. thanks for sharing.

Such a beautiful collection of vessels! The form really reminds me of a more refined version of Edmund De Waal's signature style. A joy to watch, thank you so much for sharing your process with us aspirational potters!

Seeing the pot bulge around your knuckles was intriguing. I would expect it to buckle and break being treated like that but it didn't. P.s hey 👋

Great, would you mention the dimensions of the vases? I think it would be really useful knowing relation between clay's weight and the dimensions. Thanks a lot in advance 😊

I believe the tallest was about 23 cm tall, but they range from about 20 - 23 cm

How do you get the clay out of the inside of the pot that falls in when you’re trimming I have clay stuck to the inside of my small cylinder and it’s not coming out and I cannot get my hands in there.
