A demonstration of how the FRENCH (SIX-COIL) PRUSIK hitch is tied. Check out my channel for more hitch how-to videos and much, much more about climbing, gear, technique, knots, etc.
The Prusik is the epitome of friction hitches. It is best used as part of an adjustable connection point on a rope versus using it for climbing. It can be safely used to ascend ropes, however, there are countless hitches that are better for this job. The Prusik should NEVER be used for descending on a rope as it is highly prone to jamming, sometimes to badly that the hitch becomes bound and locked, stranding a climber up in the air unless they have a foot loop with which to shift their weight off of the Prusik. The Scwabisch, Valdotain Tresse, Distel, Catalyst, Cornell, and many more, are much better for ascents and descents. I also have created/developed multiple hitches such as the Trinity, Calligraphy #1 & #2, the Knotorious hitch, Young #2 hitch, Idyllic, and the Double Clove VT, for which I have video for each showing how they are tied in my channel, (just to name a handful) which are equally as good, if not sometimes better than the mainstream, well known options for a hitch.
The eye to eye or the sewn loop? Both are on my 11.8mm rope. The eye to eye is 32" long and 9mm diameter. The sewn loop is 7mm diameter and 25" in length.
Thanks for sharing this. I just watched this and it amused me. Not only did he originally anchor with a cam, but then he uses noisy pitons to set the rest of his anchors and then pops out of the top and gets caught by a villain. Then he uses his shoe laces as two prusiks o ascend the rope while the villain, who originally had zero climbing equipment on, is now rappelling to dislodge Bond's pitons. Why didn't bond just use cams for the entire climb? They would be much harder to dislodge. Also, why didn't he have any means of ascending a rope beyond his shoelaces? haha I'm going to maybe make a breakdown for this portion of the move. Could be fun. Thanks for pointing this out to me! =-D
hi I am from India and interested in hanggliding so I always watch videos on knots for safety and survival incase of emergency situation. this James bond cliff scene was my favourite during my childhood mid 1980s which has been engraved in my mind. please do examine, critic and breakdown Hollywood movies rope climbing scenes it's fun and learn a lot.😂
@@JFANDHISPEOPLE I disagree, but I accept that usually it is better to use a smaller hitch cord. I've used 10mm eye to eye prusiks on 10mm ropes. Larger hitch cords usually have more surface area and better surface contact as a result. This means that it grips just fine, however, not as much as a cord 2mm in diameter smaller. It's partly in how you tie it, too. But I'm talking about when using real hitch cord, no accessory cord. It needs to flatten out when you wrap it around the rope.
I wish. When you make a Short, you can only have the choice between making a 30 sec or 60 sec video and this was the latter. Sorry about that. Here's my normal format, long form videos for the the six coil prusik where I go much more slowly... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PmduuvBaSiM.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XoQqrEnx8Gg.html
@@Knot-orious Thank you for sending the long version, it helped. It seemed in the short version the actual tying of the knot was fast and too much time spent elsewhere.😉
I have a Vitamin B deficiency that is resistant to supplements. So I have to get injections and, at the time this video was shot (almost two years ago), I was still really struggling with it. You can still notice my shaky hands in newer videos. I get a lot of comments about it. Fortunately, it doesn't prevent me from providing accurate, educational videos to my community. Thanks for your concern. My condition is pretty benign. I've been accused of being a drug addict, an alcoholic, or scared (in climbing videos). None of those things are true. I just am depleted of an essential set of vitamins that results in breathlessness and shaking at times. It is much improved. =-D
Here's a link to a community post I made recently about my shaking. I received a TON of support from my community! ru-vid.comUgkx6VJ5ZLq_OwBvP5Rn2dzjQYm5CnbDoGkz
