A TUTORIAL on how to tie one of the most basic and well known double hook bottom rigs specifically designed for fishing 2 hooks in one whole crab bait with the intention of targeting tautog/ tog/ black fish. Can also be applied to targeting other bottom species as well.

Sweet.....you should expand a little on this one Ken and show the whole rig including sinker placement and swivel to main line. Very well articulated

I tapped each segment of tying several styles of rig individually. Each part of the tying process has a video dedicated to demonstrating step by step. I've pretty much posted all of the basic things that I tie, but I'll still be adding a few more things in the next few weeks.

Hi Ken…Thank you for this video. When tying a Snafu or Slider Rig, is it best for the hook leaders to be shorter and closer to the sinker so the crab does not lift off the bottom due to current? I fish for Tog in the ocean, and although my sinker is holding on the bottom, I have always wondered if my crab is resting on the bottom, or lifting of the bottom and fluttering in the current. Any comments or experience with this would be appreciated.

Jeff my approach is that I will assess the area where I'm fishing. When I'm able to fish longer leaders I will do so. The influence of current always plays a role in the presentation of your bait. If current is running hard and you want to fish a long leader then it should be stiffer leader because you risk your bait spinning un-naturally in the tide. However I do feel that longer leader in general does get more bites When bottom is sticky, especially that of a big nasty wreck it may be best to fish shorter leaders, and even scale down to single hooks in order to avoid hanging up. Bottom varies from one place to another so there will always be a rig that is best adjusted to fish that environment more effectively. Just as the strength of current doesn't remain the same throughout an entire trip. At one point tide may run, at another point you can find dead slack. With this in mind I rarely ever fish the exact same way, or same rig throughout an entire trip.

so do you tie a weight to the middle loop you made first or does that go to the main line?

The small loop in the 2 hook rig itself is not for sinkers. That is how the snafu rig gets attached to the main leader of the rig. I have another video in fact on how to attach a snafu or slider rig to your top shot leader.
