yah i never can understand why various video makers’ feel the need to put electro or hip hop on simple tutorial videos. like dude. you are teaching a knot. hip hop and electro are awesome, but stupid, unnecessary, and not complimentary at all to a tutorial video such as this.
Been using this for years. Way way easier and faster than any other knot for tying braid to leader. And very strong, have never had one unravel. Thanks for enlightening everyone.
@@nonameforprivacy3303 Two hands & two feet ...not easy to tie quickly . I use 30# mono to 30# braid on my 12 ft. carp rods . The mono stands up better while fishing rocky slopes . I don't need to bring the knot through the guides so this bulkier knot is no problem .Normally I use the improved Albright knot . I'll give the Yucatan knot a go after I give it a test in my vise....
You have answered my prayers. I am new to all of this and have been going crazy trying to tie a proper Alberto. This is so easy and makes a nice, strong yet thin knot.
Many thanks for posting. An excellent tutorial! Just a suggestion, from an old guy. The music is extremely off-putting. I'd prefer Mozart . . .but many people don't like classical music. See what I mean? No music is best.
(I"m the Hubby, Harry) I have KNOT tried this but I say thank for this and the others I see. Well worth the try and consideration to be fair off the last few comments. But for me it LOOKS amazing . Thanks and this and a few other videos like it are very well done. I will at least try it. You da man!
I saltwater fishing mostly in Western Australia , and use a 15 foot assasin horizon zxl casting rod , with a six ounce sinker , this rod builds huge velocity and using a 17 foot 40lb shock leader to 30lb braid can cause problems if the knot is not smooth , whe you get it right 150 meters in light winds is common , when you get it wrong you loose the lot and maybe 30 meters of braid as well on a big eggbeater reel , this is one of the smoothest knots to use on a big spinning reel to not have tags grab coils of braid and cause a bust off not the strongest but on a spinning reel probably one of the best .
Ive done this on 30 30 and it was fine. Just have to make sure the loop stays straight as you tighten up otherwise youll end up with an unfinished SC knot real quick.
Just need to hold those ends real tight and give it a lot of pressure to get it to cinch up. 10# braid to 8# fluro. Took me 4 tries the first time, but now it’s all good.
So simple, and such a clean knot! I've been using the FG for years which is also a great knot but sometimes the leader tag catches when running through eyelets. My FG's are especially untidy if I've had to retie at sea while the bite is hot 😂. Will be giving this knot a go next trip.
The best knot to tie is the knot you are best at being able to tie. A shitty FG knot will suck compared to a well tied uni to uni. Best advice to anglers, find a knot you can tie well and quickly and practice as much as possible. For me, it has been a Crazy Alberto. I pulled in a 4ft catfish on a 6ft medium light pole with 10lb braid to 10lb fluoro leader and Alberto as my connector knot fishing with a weightless stick bait. seemed plenty strong to me and did not re-tie afterwards and still was able to pull in 3lb-4lb bass no problem
The FG is designed for when you have a large diameter difference between leader and braid. Comparisons of 10lb braid to 10 pound leader are not relevant.
It’s a great knot so long as you don’t flip the loop over each time you wrap it like you did which is why you had to smooth it out so much before pulling it tight. That being said, it’s my favorite knot for a quick leader change.
He didn't smooth it out, he was lubricating the knot. Spit on the fingers and rub it into the knot before tightening. It's cleaner than just spitting on the knot for youtube.
This line is very strong and stretches great when setting the hook or fighting and bringing in the big fish. For the value of the line which isn’t much this is the right line for you if you want to save money and catch fish.
He should have moistened the knot before tightening it down. The fluorocarbon side if you look at it closely is compromised and stretched. Always get the loops wet before you yank on your tag ends. Other than that, I think that is one of the coolest knots I have ever seen.
Yeah, I mainly use double uni, been trying to get used to the FG knot but man is it a PITA. Will try this next month when I hit the lake again. Question for those that do use this, how does it hold up to casting through the eyelets?
I couldn't get this knot to stay with the leader on the left, so i reversed them and made the loop with the leader and it worked. Was i missing a step trying it the way the video shows?
Blackwashing great videos that are already out there with the help of youtube insiders, probably for the music production and monetary reasons also. Explained.
Good looking knot but have settled on FG at home and double uni on the water… have been getting fish sharked and the double uni has proven a good knot if tied well… the FG knot much smaller and casts far better! I like seeing how other knots are tied but don’t see any reason to be proficient at tying a third joining knot.
@@matthewp2575 I would tighten like they did but add copious amounts of saliva which contains mucus or any water based lubricant that won’t chemically weaken the line. If you burn your leader like that retie! You will regret it if you don’t!
@@matthewp2575 suppose wetting it more. But not sure.. I burned my line trying to tie the carrot knot from another one of his videos… can’t tie it so I trust it.
