How to tie a vintage 1940's hairscarf - Everyday Rosie the Riveter style

Another instalment in the turban tying series! This one is a very easy, everyday style I wear when I just need to get my hair up and out of the way!
I wear vintage hair scarfs and turbans all the time to either get my hair out of the way, or to cover up pin curls, or maybe it is because I didn't do pin curls and am having a bad hair day! It is a great way to add some vintage style into your outfit, and unlike mist fashion, has some practical benefits too!
It is very much based on the Rosie the Riveter look from the 1940's. You can do it in about 1 minute with practice!

Gosh, that brings back memories of my childhood in 50's London. The mums used to have them all week, especially on Fridays when they did their hair for the weekend. It made for a rather lumpy style but better than a mass of curlers.

hahahah Yes! My hairdresser tells me of the days when she started, when the all the ladies would come in on a Saturday morning to have their hair set, it was just the thing you did!

Mam used to wear a turban when I was young. but she tucked in the ends rather than make a pretty bow. Love how you’ve tied it. Do you know what was behind this fashion trend? It was at a time when a married woman didn’t work - they stayed home to raise children and care for their husband. As the men had gone to war a lot of the women went to work in the factories, on the farms, etc. They had to tie up their (usually) long hair for safety. Someone decided that it would be a good idea if all the women tied up their hair (even though they didn’t need to tie it up when they were at home) but make it pretty. In support of the working girls, all the women started tying up their hair to show their support and appreciation of what the working girls were doing to help their country. A lovely sentiment.

If I need to use bobby pins, where they will be showing, I use nail polish to paint them a color that matches (camouflages into) my scarf. Thank you for the videos.

Lucia I get my perm nets from the pharmacy for drug store, not all have them. but I am sure you will find them on eBay!
