Kung fu ranking, then is not denoted by belt (or sash) color? I always understood that the sash was just part of the school's uniform, like school colors. A long long time ago (I'm pretty old) it was said that in some Chinese martial arts whose students wore a sash, that the sash was knotted on the left for male students, and on the right for female students. (I wish I could cite the source). According to this tradition, only the Master would knot his (or hers) in the middle. Is there any truth to that?
