Bino, you make it look so easy. In my days of climbing 1965, all we had was a half inch manila rope DRT with a blakes hitch. Now that I can't climb anymore there's all these cool ropes, knots and hitches. Makes me want to start climbing again. Great job guy, now I just enjoy teaching my 3 gransons all this new stuff. Lots of fun.

That's awesome! Manila rope is a beast. I didn't realize that the Blake's was around in the 60's learned the Blake's in the 90's and started with taught line. Thanks for sharing. Take care!

Old guy here, love going back though the hitches. Awesome how you felt/identified a possible issue, stopped put a lanyard in the tree and corrected for the issue, extremely wise, shows how much you actually care about safety! Awesome job, great video as usual! Stay safe and God bless from east Tennessee

Another great video Bino. Low and slow is good advice. What I like the most about you is that you use the "Low & Slow" (without the low) process in tying hitches. Slow is the way to go in tying hitches and stuff like that for us slow to learn guys. Thanks for another great how to video. Jim

Just another Excellent demo. I'm going to leave the Michoacon on my Eccentric hitch line. But I have another identical climbing line that I am putting a Pinto on. I will try the Catalyst with the 5 wrap top to bottom with that setup that will have a new 30" Beeline cord. Your last descend down that 🌳 I could hear that the longer Prusik sounded much better on the way down. Not a big fan of a touchy knot that seems to have a mind of it's own.
@BinoH
@BinoH 3 года назад
True I felt better with more wraps and I think I need more time on it to see how much I like it.
@josephtreadlightly5686
@josephtreadlightly5686 3 года назад
When I put that 30" along with the Hitchclimber on & I never left the ground until I put the 5th wrap on it. But it is so much better with 4 wraps on the shorter HRC cord. 😋
@josephtreadlightly5686
@josephtreadlightly5686 3 года назад
I transferred the Hitchclimber to my other climbing rope & tied the Catalyst above it on a 30" Beeline.. I just pull & the Eccentric does the tending. My bridge is adjustable & has a Michoacon on it. Both hitches are holding great & not sticking. I come down about a foot every 3 seconds. I stop often just to keep an eye on things. I felt comfortable & relaxed even though I was getting 30+ mph wind gusts on a dry day. We will get wet in the coming days so I need to accomplish things.

I'll give this hitch a try. I used my split tail hanging on a hook indoors to practice tying it. I only have two hitch cords. The 30 inch 10mm Bee Line is a bit stiff and doesn't grab well, but when I tie the Catalyst it puts a nice bend in my rope which I think will help it grab tight better. My next two hitch cords to try are Samson Ice Tail 8mm and Teufelberger HRC 8mm. Do you have experience with either of the Bino? Thanks for your video Bino.

I'm not sure how compact it will be but as long as it's tied correct the the hitch will work.

Hello, you could use a climbing rope and Anchor rings a large and a small one. You could also use double fisherman's knots to connect. The knots may be a little bit bulky. Might be better to buy one though. Hope this helps. Take care!

Try 3 wraps and go under your bite and up through the top to do the fritch. Depending on rope combo. It even self feeds.

@ScreamingReel500 2 года назад
i figure that if you used one system and set up with that system for all the rope is better ( minimize the confusing and clutter of different size prusiks). I do not see the need for all the prusik hitch that people come up with. They very much come out of the classic prusik which locks in both directions. The Schwabisch & Distel are good. I like the French prusik (come down real easy and works well with pulley). The VT and XT is just longer and more twist, I guess that because people are not using the 3mm less than their rope (I tried 7mm with 12mm rope and the VT and XT seem almost like the classic, hard to unlock and have that long twist in the way for the pulley to get up at the unlock point). It's almost like a Blake hitch which sucks as friction hitch (in emergency of course but not for normal working friction hitch). If you get the 6mm or 7mm cord then most problems with friction are eliminated with all of your 9 - 12 mm rope. Thanks for sharing. I did use your video to make couple lanyards just using big garabiners. They said at least 3mm less than the rope but 4mm has better grip. When people use 9mm rope they should use 6mm prusik. In the case of the rope wrench, I can see using 8mm prusik for 10mm rope is ok because of the brake in the system so the prusik has less friction and that is easy for descend
@BinoH
@BinoH 2 года назад
Real good point on narrowing down what you like by trying different ropes, prusik cord and hitches to find what works best for you. I'm glad the lanyard videos helped out. Thank for sharing. Take care!

@@BinoH I could see it all fine today. I don't know what I was complaining about. I have a question though. Is the cord you are making your catalyst knot with smaller in diameter than your climbing line? Usually you want them to be a couple of mm narrower, don't you? They just look about the same size in the video. What do you recommend? I've been using a catalyst hitch in my hunting rig for a few years. I love it. I can see with the longer legs how you get some slipping before the hitch grabs again when advancing. Those loops relax and open up and with the longer legs there is a lot of slack in the knot. It didn't seem to happen when you were using the shorter rope or when you added another loop which shortened the legs. Thanks
