I bought a Cornwell caliper a couple years back only for layouts. I was always too ashamed to tell anyone I used it that way. All the ninnies with there "proper tools for the job" and all that. I am glad to know I'm not the only one doing that. Your vids are like commercials, but I can't help watching them because you are a smart one. Thanks for the good tips.
I bought a lot of very useful tools that I've seen and learned watching your channel. I hope wonderful vendors out there are showing some love for all of the helpful plugs. Excellent work on that stand
Very helpful, especially the lap joints without filler. I see what I've been doing wrong. I was just going along a straight line, then I would look back and see that in some places I missed the actual joint! I was too far on one side or the other. So: circles.
Also, I did my course back in the day with that tig finger. made allot of good welds because of it, especially tube to tube and plate to plate above head. BUT, one day, you'll forget it, or you run out, and that's the day you learn welding like a pro! :)
Thanks a lot for the video! another one which will for sure help me on the ways learning TIG welding. I have a question that I wasn't able to find a suitable answer to in any of your or other videos online. When you weld a tubing for example and you do the side weld first and the inside weld as last one how to connect those two weld seamlessly, that there is no "crater" afterwards. Your friend Roy demonstrates it by going a bit behind the curve and covering previous weld a bit (video on Welding Distortion Tips), but as you said yourself - he makes this stuff look easy and its not necessary is :) any tip for that? no post current, tacking with filler metal in order not to make a crater on a tack point, etc.. Thanks a lot!
Hey Jody I have been watching your videos for around 4 months now and I would just like to request some MIG or stick welding videos I am in highschool and just learning how to weld and my Ag teacher is a terrible welder so I'm basically teaching myself with the help of your videos but I dont have access to a TIG welder. If you could sprinkle in a MIG or stick video every now and then I would be very thankful
Excellent instruction. Went in to local welding supply yesterday to ask if they carried your TIG fingers- guy scratched his head- never heard about them. Wanted to know more...LOL. I am going to get one for aluminum- stuff gets hot with a TIG while running test welds. Any tips for outside corners in thin aluminum (16 gauge diamond plate)? My flat plate and butt welds look great with my AlphaTIG200, but my corners look horrible. I am definitely better on my MIG...ugh.
Do you have any tips on stick welding lap joints, I always seem to melt away that top edge and it looks crappy, at welding school we use e6013 rods (I know they are not the best rods but I have no say in what we use), I have tried all types if settings, rod angles and arc length any suggestions?
Hi, v-pad very usefull tool it seems, sadly i only work with stainless, any suggestions on v pads for stainless? or general tips for holding small objects like bolts etc?
Jody, thanks for these videos, they're like a digital pocket reference...do you have an amperage rule of thumb when washing corners on an outside joint with no filler metal? +10%, something else? Thanks!
Your channel is called welding tips and tricks. But the way you tag... you put your tungsten on the metal so it always sticks to the metal?! With all the bad things that comes with it.
