Eq is definitely my favourite way to boost these days, and the 1.6khz is absolutely where the magic happens for that low end response I like. Nice work as always mate! 🤘🏼🖤

Thanks for this video. I just bought a Single Rec which keeps it in diode. I push it with a Rev G3 which I had before I bought the Rec. It sounds awesome!!!! I've been looking for a vid like this combining the two. Great job brother.

I have an early recto and you have to find the sweet spot on them. I gigged with it for years and it sounded incredible. You won't just plug in and have it sound amazing. You have to spend time with it.

I found that on the Tremoverb variant , when the vintage orange is cloned onto the red channel . BOTH presence knobs serve a function and surprisingly, the presence knob on the orange channel has a greater effect on the cloned red channel . It’s like an added tone sculpting feature I don’t think many are aware of . As always , very informative channel . Love all your content . 😎👍🏼

I own that generation Recto. I never had the flubby/fizzy problem, BUT I use JCM800 4X12s with the T75 speakers. Those have a metal character V30s don't imho.

So funny you just did this video. My cousin who owns a studio near Chicago just posted last night that he only liked his Recto with a tube screamer boost amd active pickups. They sound killer with your advice. Very cool man.. Cool.. I want to see you review an Engle amp.. Besides maybe a Friedman and Soldano a Engle and maybe a Hughs and Kettner would be my ideal amp.. Great video sir as always with great useful info...

The best recto sounds I've ever gotten are from the Fractal Audio versions. You can dial out all the undesirable stuff and accentuate the good stuff.

I'm firmly in the recto being one of the greatest amps ever, camp. That said, I really liked it with the poly pedal. The boss eq pedal was interesting too. I just got a boss 10 band eq pedal and I'm trying to learn to use it. I've been hesitant to try drastic cuts or boost, but I'll definitely give it a whirl now. Thanks Leon! You da man!

Drastic cuts pre gain are pretty good at the extreme frequencies IMO. Great pedals!

For a more immediate low end and sharper attack, I prefer the diode rectification for this application. The tube rectification has more of a sponginess to the low end and the attack which is great if that’s what you’re trying to accomplish. But we all agree that the amp has options for days and it’s good to understand what those switches do. Great video on different ways of boosting the amplifier. It shows all the different characteristics how they affect the amplifier itself. Very informative, Leon.

Yeah it's easy to forget about those switches. Rec's are super versatile and i really enjoy the Vintage gain mode for bluesy stuff too.

That was awesome! I'm so happy you touched on the EQ. I've been considering the newest incarnation of the MXR 10-band. This was so educational! I'd have made the rookie mistakes for sure. So MY Stiletto is in storage while we're in transition. Soon my friend! But does my amp have any similar EQ flim-flammery to this model?

I love rectifiers in a mix, but sitting next to one and how people use them they always have this thickness in the low end and a really hot sizzle on top that again, works well in mixes, not so well sitting alone in my opinion. The Mark series to me always were much better "solo"/in-the-room souding amps, they're just harder to dial in for a record in my experience.

I've had similar experiences with Klon-ish boosts in front of my PRS Archon 50. Something to do with how the Klon style circuit cuts bass and emphasizes the upper mids, I think.

Not sure because I got a 50 watt single that it’s easier to tame but I get some great tones out of my combo I love it very versatile too. If I was better at recording, playing, filming lol everything I’d do a demo of it

IMHO the most perfect boost for a recto is the Fortin Grind (and I´m talking as a 100% non djent 6 string standard tuning guy) Its a match made in heaven.

I actually really love to use my analog man king of tone with the high gain red side and the yellow side on. Since the KOT is so transparent it really lets the sound of the dual rec shine but still push it to tight death metal tones

On the Axefx I like using the BB Pre with the gain low, just using the bass and treble knobs, not the tone. In real life, I like a tubescreamer or the rare but cool Ibanez Metalscreamer.

Dual Recs are on a million records... there is a reason for that. Never had issues getting a good tone out of one.

Never had any problem getting great tones out of my recto... Just add a ts9 and lower the bass... Sounds brutal. Never tried to boost it with an eq before. Maybe I should give it a try.

When I was like 16 I definitely thought Rectos sucked for this exact reason. I didn’t know jack shit about pedals yet so if I couldn’t get an amp sounding good plugged straight into the front, I’d just go back to my dummy proof 5150.

So... my favourite is the Boss EQ.... I use a EQ in front of my 6505 myself.... I thought the 2 amps were actually closer but the Recto is very different beast....

Not sure if the Revv pedal was causing the crackle or maybe it was clipping from the audio. The soundtank sounded most versatile to me.

The Rectifier just simply isn't made for bedroom playing but when thrown in a mix it's a hard tone to beat imho. But my personal preference would be to get a Mark series amp from Boogie. And to me it seems like the best way to boost it is with an EQ pedal. Your pink Poly pedal sounded the best to me. It's a beast but it is tamable.

This! I have a Rectifier and i hate it for playing alone. But in a Mix it really slays. I play through a Engl 4x12 and i need to turn the bass to zero and boost it. For playing alone i much prefer Plexi Style Amps. But dont judge the Recto on his Solo Tone. You must hear him in a mix to really hear his potential.

Do you run the boss eq through the effects loop or in front? I have massive bleed through in the effects loop. Everything I read says it’s design flaw

All of these are running in front of the amp. I had my Recto modded to have a serial effects loop rather than a parallel loop so I haven't noticed that issue running it in the loop.

Check out Ola's video on Testament the Gatherings tone. Apparently the rhythm player pounded the strings like you wouldn't believe. It was plugged straight into the amp, no effects.

Makes sense. I guess I just need to spend more time figuring out what B/M/T settings work best with each of my guitars for each channel. I think I might have option overload with the mark iv which is a good thing.

The thing I love about my Rectifier is the HUGE fat wall of bone shaking thunder it produces. I don't understand why you would pull all of that out of it. It can still sound tight and fat at the same time. Just my two cents.

Earth shattering low end! It's all very context dependent of course, but I've found for the stuff I play (in a trio with a bass player who uses some distortion on their bass) that the low end is a little too much and that using a boost does just enough to help it sit a bit better in a full mix.

Axsquire so, postscript: I stacked my Fortin 33 into a Tumnus & tweaked the EQ to not only set the bass way down but actually scoop the mids also. It sounds ludicrous. I need to get you an audio sample lol

On the AX8 I add the Enhancer block (modern) and remove the excessive lows with the low cut. I got my recto sounding immense and totally useable. The whole thing has to be tweaked across all the parameters to get the most out of it . Takes some time and effort but worth it.

In the loop (post distortion) is going to be a more drastic effect whereas the aim here was to tighten up the response and "feel" rather than do massive post distortion sculpting.

Best amp ever for Doom, Stoner, Grunge and Sludge,- just don´t ever use it for neither classic nor contemporary metal without the help of a good treble booster and a serious eq.

I think this is a really bad amp because so much dumb design errors everyone is fixing with pedals and EQ pedals... Why not built an amp with tight bass response and NO FIZZ? Diezel Herbert, Diezel Hagen, VH4... Much better gain strutcture design.
