In this video, the Texas Squeegee takes us on a full step by step tutorial on how to tint a Tesla Model 3 rear window & back glass.
Dry Shrink Prep Method:
•The first method used to prep the glass is a "dry shrink" method.
In this video, dry shrinking is prepared by coating the Tesla Model 3 glass with a soap wrapped in a microfiber rag. This allows the film to move freely and float over the glass during the shrinking phase.
Pull Shrink Method:
•The pull shrink method is a style of heat shrinking where the installer controls the way a film shrinks by pulling the edge of the film and guiding the shrink. It is one of the most effective and quickest ways to heat shrink a Tesla Model 3 rear glass.
Cutting/Trim Phase:
•Always use a new olfa blade when cutting on the glass of a Tesla Model 3. Tesla glass is very sensitive to scratches so the blade has to be sharp in order to cut through the film with little ease and minimal pressure. There is plenty of space in side the glass, so allow yourself some extra film to work with. Be sure to cut precisely on the defrosters cut outs as this will help you position the tint once it is inside the Tesla Model 3 glass.
Revers Roll Phase:
Okay, this will be a little difficult to understand through text. However, here goes: Reverse rolling a tint involves installing window tint on a big glass through the use of unrolling the tint on it. What you do is have the film on a glass with the liner facing the you (the installer). Pull half the liner back and spray the adhesive side of the tint. Now place the liner back on the film-there now is water between the liner and film. Repeat the process for the other half of the tint. Now you will roll in the OPPOSITE direction of how you plan to unroll once you are inside installing the tint. Roll with the liner on the inside of the roll. When you unroll the tint, peel the liner and let it stick on the roll. As you unroll the tint, the liner will now be on the back side of the tint. This method is shown on the video so pay close attention. It is much better understood as a visual.
Inside Glass Prep:
Using a 50/50 mix of water & alcohol, spray the glass and let the solution sit for about 30 seconds to a minute. This will break down dirt, debris, & oils from the glass. Use a scrubber to thoroughly clean the rear glass. Squeegee thoroughly 2 times. Spray the glass with enough water to allow the film to slide around while you are positioning the tint around the edges.
Installing The Film:
Unroll half the film on the dash, wedging it towards the bottom to prevent excessive dragging of the film. In some cases, excessive dragging can create adhesive marks that are not removable once they are marked. Once you have half the film unrolled on the dash, frankenstein it up to the glass. The Frankenstein method is a method used by tinters to lay film on a glass with both arms extended forward. Use the tool called The Reach to help you reach the center of the glass. Unroll the rest of the film towards the top. Squeegee 3-4 passes, each one getting firmer & firmer.

Good video. Very detailed. I'm doing a DIY on my 2023 M3P. I just finished up the Xpel Stealth Satin PPF bulk wrap. 1st time doing it. Not professional, but I'm happy with it. I just bought Llumar bulk tint yesterday to try tinting. I love doing stuff I've never done before. If I mess it up, then I will have the shop tint them. Definitely worth the cash to enjoy trying myself. I battled most every piece of the PPF except for the hood lol.

I like the fact that you didn't take off the inside panels. That's one thing that really scares me, taking off car parts. I was wondering the absorption rope you put in. Can it be put in put into the inside side panels?

Great job in explaining every detail plus giving helpful tips on the side. I might have missed it but I did not see you pulled the liner from the adhesive side. I saw the part where you pulled out the outer clear liner after you laid the tint in the inside glass. Am I missing something? Appreciate your help.

Hey! Thanks for watching. So this a method called reverse roll. It's tough to describe in words but basically, when you un-roll the film keep the liner on the roll so that as the film unrolls the liner is on the opposite side. It sounds very confusing until you see it done.
@resca5738
@resca5738 3 года назад
Ya...I was thinking the samething...liner should've been between the glass n the window...all my rolls where like that...anywho looks like that window sucks time consuming...like back in the day Saturn 4dr n 4dr Oldsmobile's back windows which u youngn's probably won't ever come across...everybody has their own technique nothing is etched in stone...looks like you where a "straight edge student" in tint school...straight A student...get it...

Reverse rolling is you pull liner off as you unroll so the sticky side face window. You pulled it off after you laid film so that means the sticky side is facing down.

No it wasn’t. This was shrunk using The Soap Method as demonstrated on the video. It consists of lathering the glass with a bar of soap to allow the film to float & tack during the shrink. It yields the cleanest install you’ve ever seen. #TRUSTTT

@ajlanger5
@ajlanger5 2 года назад
Wait a minute 🤔 the way you have the product at 17:40 shows clear screen facing you. Which means when you rolled it up at 18:55 the clear film is on the “inside” of the roll-up. Which means the way you un-rolled it at 24:45 would have placed the clear film against the glass (aka that “inside layer” i mention). BUT the clear film was facing the floor when you peeled it off. Did you re-roll it off camera?
@TexasTintMasters
@TexasTintMasters 2 года назад
Nope. This is a method called Reverse Roll. Confusing when you read about it, better to watch a how to video on it.

Yeah clear fim facing him when unroll but that's supposed to be the sticky side of tint so why would it be facing him instead of the glass

Which way did u lay film with grain or against grain of film?
@TEBOZ
@TEBOZ 2 года назад
Sorry but I have never heard that term ''with or against grain of film'' but hope this helps answer your question. He is using a 60 inch roll of film because as he already stated , you can only shrink the factory edges of the roll to shrink he rolled off enough tint to run from the bottom of the window to the top of the window and used the full 60'' width to go from one side of the car to the other side of the car , giving him plenty of overhang to use his heat and pulling technique.
