How to Tint Tail lights - Night Shades 

why is it that everybody who does spraycan tutorials doesn't know how to use a spray can?

Those coats were so uneven it made me cringe

need to worry about putting some tint on those windows.......people can see what your thinking because they are so clear

Use long strokes not short random strokes so you get it evenly...

Step 1: buy a shitty VW Step 2: do a shitty how-to with no spray can experience Step 3: remove newspaper and enjoy your new aggressive VW

Imo this is the ideal shade of darkness. You should've have wet sanded before and clear coat after and finish with a buff for a long lasting finish. But you got the gist and the car looks good, great start.

I think his tail lights came out fine and I was encouraged that he did them in place. I recently had my car wrapped and one tail light would not come out/off. It needed some magic German tool and mindset we just didn't have either one!

one thing I've learned about Nite Shades, if you want it off, you DONT NEED to sand anything. I don't know if it's been said here, but you can always spray Carb Cleaner on the tail lights. So no, it's not really permanent. Just a helping FYI

ChrisFix taught me to cut open a garbage bag and then put it over your surrounding area, cut a shape of the headlight then tape it down again on top of the first layer of tape. then you've got a perfectly sealed surounding area with not too much newspaper. That was you remove the risk of soaking the newspaper and dirtying your paint

I'm tinting my jetta mk6 tail lights this month, and I'm definitely going with the darker red, not black. The same as you did, that way it's still legal and looks nice. Well done

Maybe take off the tail lights? Couldn't finish the video I got too scared. Cars just too aggressive looking.

Just incase you didn't know you can remove night shades, its not permanent. you can remove the light housings from the car and just wet a rag with a little gas and the stuff comes right off. I would not recommend doing this with the lights still on the car as you could potentially damage your paint but you won't harm the lenses by cleaning them with a little gas

Did the same to my gti mk5 but went darker.took it off with goof off after getting a ticket.i will put back on this weekend but will not go as dark.

I always recommend 3-4 coats anymore than that and it looks illegal and less looks uneven up close

1. remove tail lights 2. wet sand tailights 1st 3. spray on several EVEN coats 4. wet sand again 5. clear coat 6. wet sand again 7. pollish 8. DO NOT DO ANYTHING THIS GUY DID!!!!!

it looks cool. vht night shade can be easily removed with acetone tho..so it's not permanent jus in case u do choose to remove. .

A detailing clay kit will remove paint overspray, if that fails some meguiars ultimate compound would be needed, either applied by hand or by dual action polisher. No need to wet sand it, that would be the last resort and you'd need 2500 or 3000 grit sand paper and a dual action polisher to remove those sanding marks.

Acetone easily removes vht nightshade from ur tail lights if u need to do so...

It's not permanent. You can take it off with Goof Off

It is not permanent.. No sanding needed. If you want to remove it use an arousal can of goof off. The tint will come off without even wiping

Actually you can take it off, I've done my tails a few times and theres tons of ways to get it off. You can literally go get some gasoline and rub it off and it looks like it was never there.

That spray job made me shake my head, this lad cannot paint, I paint lights all the time and I reckon it's smarter to remove the lights, next time do a full coat...

Smartest option is to tint them with the normal window film if you can't do it take a it to a tint shop especially if you have nice car like this one the cost of a stock light is crazy and taking off your lights is not good either won't be adjusted like when it came from the factory . A real pro won't un assemble your vehicle

take your tail lights out of the car and you wont have to worry about masking anything off or getting paint on your car

you did it the illegal and unsafe not to mention if you get rear ended your insurance will not have to pay out to further that youd be paying for the driver that hit your car... For the US and better part of the world applying anything besides a film tint to tail lights is illegal and insurance companies become not liable for damaged caused from such modifications. for instance you could be completely stopped and someone behind you states after rear ending you they couldn't see your brake lights regardless of if they could or not isn't the issue it's the fact that you painted which diminished visible light passing through the lense vs tint which just darkens the light passing through it.

Wouldn't it have been easier just to remove the tail lights and spray them? Tail lights on these cars are extremely easy to remove, I'm pretty sure removing and putting them back on would take you literally less time and effort than having to mask all that off lol. Also, that is NOT how you use a spray can, you have to use long strokes not short random strokes and cover the entire tail light from end to end(keep spraying onto the paper to make sure you don't miss a spot). If you would've done it this way it wouldn't have come out looking so uneven lol. Another tip is to wet sand them before and after applying the coats.

Would it be possible to spray the stuff on a paper towel and then wipe it on the tail light? I don't want to spray it on. It will be uneven and difficult to make it perfect.
