I got calls from an online store. I told them I wanted to buy just one shoe. They told me I had to buy two shoes. I then accused them of being prejudiced against people with only one foot. I also said “you could sell me the left shoe and wait for another person missing a left foot to ask for the right shoe”. They get so flabbergasted. It’s fun to listen to them squirm.

An Indian scammer happened to phone my elderly father, who instinctively answered the call, but being unable to hear properly said 'Yes' several times. I took over to see what was going on, and the scammer tried to claim that a purchase order has been agreed upon. Rather than attempt a reasonable debate, I decided to play the game: "Oh, he is really old and doesn't know what he is talking about.' The scammer ended the call immediately. Other times I tell Indian scammers they are shaming and disgracing their family name -- it really bothers them to hear that.

That pause between ''You're also a moron'' and ''yes'' was more suspenseful than any horror movie I've seen recently.

“Yes” is dangerous. Say “maybe” instead they will feel even more tortured.

Never let your voice saying "yes" be recorded.

Most of the time I start speaking Spanish, and they say “please hold” and transfer me over to a Spanish speaker where I then speak English acting confused. Then they’ll sometimes transfer me back. Had it happen like 3 times in a row once before they caught on. Funniest shit ever

When I was a teen we had a Chinese exchange student living with us for 2 years. Every time the telemarketers would call our land line, we'd ask her to come into the room and pick up the phone and just start speaking as fast as possible in Mandarin. There is NOTHING more funny that listening to that immediate silence followed by the hang up sound. One of my best memories of her was the time they just said "oooooohkay, thanks bye", that person probably felt so confused.

I heard that there was a recent scam where they ask you a simple question, like "Can you hear me?" They wait for you to answer "yes", then hang up. A recording of your voice is used as your consent to sign you up for a bunch of nonsense.

How to torture telemarketers with one word: “Joe”

Once a hearing aid specialist called me trying to buy a hearing aid. So I pretended I couldn't hear him...ugh I had so much fun. Lol.

This is now the worst possible thing you can say. Scammers will attempt to *trick* you into saying "Yes", record it, and then use your own voice to sign you up for things like credit card charges you don't even know about.

“So y-e-s spells yes, what does e-y-e-s spell?” “Eeeeeee-yes”

I once had a telemarketer ask me if I wanted to pay less taxes and I said no. They hesitated for a few seconds then repeated the question, and I replied "no" again, saying something like "you know, I'm doing OK financially so I don't mind". Then when she wanted to explain to me in details about how I didn't understand the huge benefits of saving money I interrupted her and said I had an appointment with my psychologist (which was totally true). She was SO confused lol

My old man father-in-law loves to use his age as an excuse to use the "hard of hearing" card and have them go through their entire spiel, only to have to repeat it again. And again. And again. He's retired with nothing better to do than to F*** with them until they finally just give up.

I like how the telemarketer thought he won that interaction but the whole world is laughing at him.

I just pretend I'm my flatmate and that the real me is in the bathroom but won't be long. Then just keep them waiting as long as possible. My record is 48 minutes.

Love that shit. I was working at a fuelstation and people would call pretending to know our boss. We than were suppossed to give out Giftcard Codes because "he spoke to our boss and its fine". Our Boss gave us permission to say what ever we want to those morons. So i started pretending as if i have seen them before. "Oh yeah arent u the guy that visited our boss yesterday?" And they would say "uhm .. yeahbi was there recently". Than i would start asking them if they still used that XXXXL Dildo i borrowed him. Reaction varied but it was never a dull moment xD.

Honestly what I typically do is say something like "Sorry, could you give me a minute? I need to get a pen to write stuff down" and then set the phone down and go about my day. I dropped from multiple calls a day to like one every couple weeks and those are typically new companies.
