Are you working full time? Wondering how it's possible to train your new puppy when you're working full time? I'll admit, it's not easy but it's possible. House training can one of the most difficult parts of getting a new puppy and my husband and I both worked full time so it was tough to get our mini goldendoodle puppy Theo trained. We brought him home when he was 2 months old and had him trained in our home within 2 months and confidently trained in other people's homes in 4 months. These are the tips that worked for us!
LINK TO DOWNLOAD THE '10 THINGS THAT YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE YOU GET A GOLDENDOODLE' ------ bit.ly/2qdO2Ka
We were told that "completely trained" means that they go 30 days without an accident. Even within the first month that we had Theo we barely had any accidents because we abided by the "months old vs. hours they can hold it" rule - but any one accident would restart the 30 day clock.
Note: This is what worked for us, if it's not possible for you to be home to let your pet out, pee pads are certainly an option. Best of luck on your new furry friend!

Video is a bit of a clickbait cop out. Yeah you kind of answer how you managed to do it but you know that's not why people are clicking your video. They want to know how they can be away from home from 9-5 and still make it work. Also, that dog is definitely not properly trained. It won't listen to you consistently even WITH food in hand and a well trained dog listens even without food. For those who actually care about how to be out of the house for the entire duration of your workday 8-9 hours. You have to take at least a few weeks off initially when you get your dog. You just have to. Early training works better and in the first couple weeks you really can't just take off, even for a few hours. You need to crate train and you need a small play space like a pen where they can walk around and stretch out a bit. Start crate training day one and start acclimating your dog to you leaving. Get your dog into the crate for 5-10 mins every hour. Don't sit right near there but just be around doing your thing. Don't give them attention. Then let them out and rewards them with treats and affection. Work your way up to 20 mins every 90 mins and then 30 every 2 hours and then eventually push the time up to 40 mins and 50 and 1 hour. After 4/5 days you should hit the hour mark and just work up from there. Once you hit the hour mark though you're going to want to start introducing being out of sight. So crate the dog and then during the duration, step out of sight for 15-20 mins. Make their crate comfy and give them toys that keep them occupied. You can also use camera monitors to see them. Keep pushing the time here until you can work up to a few hours out of sight. Once that's the case, start actually leaving the home. Dont say goodbye, dont make it seem like anything is out of the ordinary. Just crate them and get up and walk out as your normally do. Don't try to let the dog know something is about to happen or give them sad eyes because you feel bad. You can use a monitor to watch the dog. You will be just outside or nearby the door. If everything is going well then push the time. If your dog starts acting out then wait a few mins and try to come back when the dog is calm. He'll be excited but don't get him riled up. Calm him down and let him out of the crate. Give him some treats and pets and then continue about your day. The more you make it seem like your leaving is normal and teach your dog that you will come back and that he gets rewarded for being without you, he will start to accept that as the norm. From here you just continue to push the time limit using the crate and then after he can go a couple hours at a time then give him more space to roam in a pen and push further. You have to give your dog this type of stress many times a day so they learn to not stress about it. Their fear is that you're gone and they're alone. As they get accustomed to that feeling of being without you and then continue to see you come back and tha everything is okay, they will be reconditioned. Once you start going to work, ask if you can take a bit of a longer lunch because of your dog for a couple weeks and then head home to let them out to pee. This may involve you working an extra hour at the end of the day to make up for it but that's okay. Before leaving you need to take a walk and make sure they go to the bathroom AND get plenty of exercise so they are pooped out. When you come back, same thing. Getting all their energy out and playing with you is the equivalent for a dog of spending many hours just lounging around. They are far more stimulated and thus much more content with being chilled out for longer periods of time. If you are not able to make it home mid day then you need to hire someone to come and feed and or walk and or PLAY with your dog. I know it costs extra but it has to be done because there is actually a limited amount of time they can hold their bladders when young, even if you've already accustomed them to staying alone. Eventually you'll be able to push late lunches to leaving early, which means more time spent without you, and then go back to a 9-5 schedule. You may still need a mid day dog walker just in case but I like to have them come every few days kind of at random so the dog doesn't get in the habit of assuming he'll have someone in a few hours and then not be used to staying alone for the full time. Make it unpredictable so it's a surprise to the dog rather than a given. Eventually you can graduate from play pens to rooms or areas that you've sealed off (if you have that kind of space) and then eventually the entire house. Keep in mind this all has to be done along with other regular training, feeding, getting your dog truly well trained and off the crutch of treats for that particular task as soon as possible. It is indeed a LOT of work and may even cost $2000-4000 extra for that first year. And when you're home you have to make that time count so it doesn't just end with all that work your already done. Your life will be revolving around this dog and your social life will and should be essentially nonexistent outside of a few hours at a time (which coincides with helping your dog getting used to you not being around). But everything will be for this dog and if it doesn't benefit the dog, you can't do it. Do not get a dog unless you're prepared for this. Your life is going to change big time. Ideally you want to speak to your job about the possibility of working from home, offsite, or adjusting your hours/cutting your hours temporarily. This isn't so you can stay home with the dog instead (that would be counterproductive to training him to be without you), but so that you have the flexibility to make the duration of time he has to be without you gradually longer and longer as opposed to a sudden extra 2 hours because of logistics with work. I was able to get just about full flexibility as needed and could even take calls from home many days but I still went out to a coffee shop or library or even to work just so the dog would get training. I knew I could leave whenever but for the sake of training, I had to be out of sight of the dog for his own good.

Won't the dog pee and poo in the crate when looked up? It's against the law here in Sweden to to lock a dog in crate so i wonder if there is another option. I don't own a dog just yet but trying to gather as much information as possible before the time comes. Thank you for the info u provided

@@Muurat06 By the time the puppy has worked up to a couple hours in the crate they should be about 6 months. If you’re looking to do this with your dog I suggest putting them in a room(because you can’t cage them up. Or using an excercise pen

Thank you so much! You’ve actually explained it in a way that might actually work! Every vid that I’ve watched has said ‘do this…’ the puppy does it… then ‘do this…’ and puppy does it… doesn’t actually tell you what to do if puppy doesn’t do it or screams blue murder if they can’t be ‘inside your skin’ 100% of the time! One question… do I just pick up puppy and put him in the crate?

Hmmmm this isn’t very “full time working” people just don’t get to go home every 2 hours! Sorry don’t mean to be rude.

April Vasquez both my husband and I work over 50 hours a week outside of the home (when we were training Theo) perhaps a 20 minute proximity isn’t for everyone, but making the sacrifice to have a smoothie lunch in the car to spend your lunch break at home with your dog is doable - although it may not be ideal. This is very much full time working - just with 2 people with a little wiggle room in their schedules!

Uh yeah have to agree. I work 45 minutes from home and have a 30 minute lunch break so I couldn’t even get home let alone back in time.

I was working from home back in March 2020. I then decided to put a deposit on a poodle. My boss called me in August and terminated my employment. Now I just received an offer yesterday October 2020. The puppy was born 9/2020. I am supposed to get the puppy November 2020. Now I am trying to figure out, how this is going to work. I will be out of my home for 8 hrs a day.

this is purely clickbait...your video really doesn't answer the question in the title ... you both work full time, but each of you had the liberty to come home for an hour at a time, plus you have a yard so you didn't really have toilet training issues... also as cute as he is... that is not what a "fully" trained puppy looks like lol

Hi Sabrina! LOVE your videos! We are going to pick out our mini Goldendoodle in a couple of weeks. Won't get to bring him or her home until 5 more weeks, BUT I have a couple of questions for you, if you don't mind. 1. Why did you pick Theo, in particular, among his siblings? 2. Was he laid back as a puppy for not? One more Lol. 3. Was he curly or wavy as a puppy-would love a pic of him if you could share. So glad I found you-just what I needed in preparing for our new mini doodle!
