What kind of mesh or wire did you use to keep the larger birds out?

What company did you buy this feeder from, please? Would this work to feed cardinals too?

No this won't work for adult cardinals the square holes are too small. I have seen cardinal fledglings get in though but this is not an ideal scenario. They struggle to get in and out. As I recall I got this feeder on the internet. Serubmwjail is the name.

what was the height of the feeder, do feel that is important?

As close to the height of the training cup as possible. This is a temporary setup to train not permanent.
