We started loose lead training based on your videos 2 weeks ago. Our lab is 1 year old and while she wasn’t the most terrible puller in the world she was bad enough that I would sometimes be on the verge of tears because she just kept on pulling despite all of the training we did. Today, after 2 weeks of working and walking with her based on your principles, we went on our regular long walk for the first time. There was not a single pull on that leash and she even got to go off sniff but staying close enough that the leash was never tight. I’m still on the verge of tears, but it’s tears of joy. I will say though to anyone reading and hoping for the same progress with their pup - the leadership that Will talks about is KEY and it is not formed by walking alone. Spend more time with your dog. Do fun exercises. Throw balls. Nose work. Agility. Create a relationship that the dog values and needs more than whatever it is making it want to pull. Thank you Will!!
I agree with Maria, we started our new puppy with leash walking at about 12 weeks old but also taught her fetch, and let her have fun just running and playing. The relationship is key and then consistency. We always play about 30 minutes of fetch to burn excess energy first and then go for a 30 - 40 minute walk. The walk goes a lot better when she’s already spent some energy playing. I’ve done this consistently with her and now she’s 5 1/2 months old and walks really nice on a leash.
I've been watching your channel since we got our now 13 week labradoodle. These videos have been amazing, thank you. Our Dude sits, waits, leaves, lay down, look at me, drops, walks to heel and has good recall. It truly has been about engagement, loving leadership and consistency. Thanks for making our family puppy dream a dream.
Why are people saying this isn't possible, you the owner are the reason your dogs pulling luck at yourself, back and forth training worked for mine stop blaming others and luck at yourself, too many people by these big dogs for fashion without a clue how to deal with them.
Training of a dog is very easy when Proper communication /understanding between the dog and dog handler/ owners know each other happens !! You are giving good guidence and advice for those who love their dogs become very obedient 💖💖💖
I wish it was this easy as its presented here. I feel like some of these dog training videos are borderline scams, whatever you want to teach your dog it will take a lot of repetition, time and effort it will never be as easy as its presented here. Managing expectations as a dog owner is probably the most important thing over everything else and this training video completely ignores that.
Dude. You’re watching an expert who has done this over and over for years. Of course you shouldn’t expect to have the same results as in the video because you’re not as experienced as he is. You’re getting free training tutorials on the internet, so you’re gonna have to work hard to watch all the videos you can to form the full picture. But I assure you this guy is the real deal and if you watch all you can and practice practice practice with your dog, you will get there!
I feel most dog training is inexperienced and scammy. This gentleman here I’ve learned most from and used his techniques on different breeds with different problems and temperaments. I continue to come to his videos for free and good knowledge
Go back and watch earlier videos to get more benefit from a variety of videos. One video to fix your problems is your first problem. There is no 5 minute fix to any one problem. Imagine if you could fix every problem with a 5 minute video. Solving a problem takes patience, time and fundamentals ; get all of that sorted and you will be successful with your canine companion
hi! first I'd like to say thank you for all the videos you share! they have helped greatly! my family has 4 dogs. one of which is a french mastiff. she is a year an a half old and in her second heat cycle. this cycle she has shown aggression to one of our other dogs. we isolated her and plan on having her spayed a couple weeks after this cycle is over. Is there anything else we should be doing? part of me is worried she might go after the 2 small dogs we have (pug pup & corgi) any info is greatly appreciated.
I have watched hundreds of this guys videos. Which you are getting the benefit of his knowledge and expertise for free. Go to a trainer and they will no doubt charge you the earth and you will get nowhere near as much information. No sure how people can think this is a scam as he’s doing it for free.
Can I get some advice? My dog listens pretty well indoors, but whenever he's out doors he completely ignores me, only follows his nose, and tries to eat everything of the street. What should I do?
My dog does this as well. What I'm doing is trying to increase my "value" outside to be more interesting than what's around him. An example may be I won't let him walkthrough a gate or doorway without acknowledging me or until I say "yes" or walkthrough first. I may get a more special treat he really likes for when we're outside. It's gonna take a lot of trial and error and headache, but my dog is making progress I would recommend trying something similar with yours
Reward your dog any time he looks at you outdoors. This technique is called capturing. It will slowly build engagement with the handler in distracting environments. Set your dog up for success by working around mild distractions first, then around increasingly intense distractions. If your dog won’t focus at all outside, make sure to meet their needs before attempting any training. Let them sniff as much as they want for at least 10 minutes. After this point, you can start rewarding for engagement. Hope this helps
So the RSPCA say this about prong collars..... "Prong collars aren't illegal sadly. Although people sell them state that they're 'quite gentle training tools,' we believe the opposite to be true and we want to see them banned."
Just read a bunch of these. I've been watching Will for a while now, my son calls him the UK guy cause we Yanks love the accent. Anyway, for those who complained, there is an older longer video on slip lead training of a bad puller. It's an excellent vid and what I used to correct my Lhasa apso mix monster. For those of you who don't like or can't get prong collars (I don't think I'd put a prong on a Lhasa) then try a Gentle Leader. They really do work IF you present them correctly and use them correctly. Read the directions! All of Will's videos are great, but there are other good ones as well. Look around and be willing to devote some quality time to your dog!

I have only just seen your site.. have a 14 month old gsd/border collie who unfortunately even though he was muzzled decided to pull me accross a road to then go for a smaller dog who was off lead.. This was on new years eve and there were fireworks going off at that time... I am worried that maybe the police were called as my being dragged meant that I had let the lead go and was not in control of him. And he was completely loose. My dog has a good nature most of the time and is good with our kitten at home. I suffer from m.s and got a puppy to help me walk, this worked many years ago, when choke chains were the norm in training. So hearing about the knot leads is really helpful. My dog is the opposite, I have to pull him because he just keeps sniffing around, I’ve tried treats and toys to distract him but he’s not motivated on either, have you got a video on how I can get him to walk? Xxx

I don't believe prong collars are banned in the UK. However, they are hard to get hold of/buy, as they are frowned upon and the rspca are petitioning against them... I'm from the UK, and I would like to know what make, model prong Will uses? A slip lead makes no difference to my dogs pulling and the 'change of direction' tactic doesn't work 100% each time, especially when he's distracted! The only prongs I can find to buy are on ebay, which could be any old crap, so I'd really like to know what the professionals use!?
Thank you Will! I love watching and seeing the tips you give! I have two rescued dogs, a Shih Tzu and Miniature Poodle (both mixes, I'm told), that I'm working on training to walk together. The poodle is quite a bit more active and inquisitive than the Shih Tzu, so it's a lot of fun 🙂. Any pointers on getting them to walk together? BTW, love love the wizard theme!! Very fitting, I think
2 months and I am realizing my 10 month old rescue Malinois needs a prong for the near future. She is so hyper and excited, especially with distractions or just when exploring new areas on our walks, it is impossible to keep the leash loose for more than a few seconds.. In fact, she seems to have figured out that if she does behave for a moment and gives me some good girl heel and eye contact, she gets a treat. The moment that happens, she inevitably will abandon that position and work her way forward until the leash is tense again. Malinois logic, I suppose. Today, the green circle will be drawn. I used the prong collar for a few days before, and it was like magic. I think I discontinued its use too early. I need to establish that zone she can walk within more solidly before going back to other collars. She is far better than when I got here (zero respect for the handler, never been walked before), but after 2 months, I am afraid things are settling in on a semi acceptable level. Distractions still completely override my leash in put or verbal commands. I need to get this sorted now while she is young, or walking this girl will be a drag for the coming years.

Love this concept but i got a question : i use to walk my puppy with a leash for him to do his business like a lot of us i guess so i wonder how you can combine this to the heel thing ? Is it possible to sometimes walk him by letting him doing what he wants to do and sometimes using heeling ? Thanks by advance

@@Damaris972. the problem is the the law says that they are illegal to have on a dog. I have had great success with a slip lead but that have mainly been with labs and other "smaller" dogs I walk dogs rigth now and hopefully will help people in the future with behaviour problems and I would like to have a mire corrective tool than a slip lead for something like a rottweiler
Herm Sprenger makes some that don't look like prong collars, but that's still a risk you'd be taking if you got caught. It's such a shame they're misunderstood and misused because you have to deliver such a stern correction with a slip to get the same result as a wrist flick with a prong and some dogs could care less about the slip no matter how hard you pop. Prong collars are illegal for a reason, because it is inhumane to cause pain to a dog for training purposes. Positive reinforcement is the ethical and effective way to train dogs.

Hi I have trained our new rescue to walk on a slack lead thanks to these videos. I want to recall train soon but this dog gives ZERO S***S about treats or food. She's undernourished from her previous owner, but how do I train a dog if I can't use treats?
Build toy drive. I learnt how to do it through fenzi dog sports academy. You can also use premack reinforcers such as sniffing. Unfortunately you will not learn to do that on this channel because this channel is anti-science 🙃
So like what do i do if my dog just dont want to learn or doesnt understand the concept of him pulling is choking him and just walks through it. I try communication like praise when hes good and pull on the lead when he pulls, he also gets distracted so easy like doggy adhd. Hes a year and a few month old 80lbs lab thats full of love and energy. Its a problem because im the only one that can walk him because im 6'2 200lbs, if my mom or girlfriend walks him he just drags them. Is it also a respect thing? Like does he not respect them thats why he pulls? Should I try something other then the slip lead?
Positive reinforcement. Your experience is the rule, not the exception, this trainer is full of shit and does not seem to understand the science behind training. Get your dog on a comfortable harness and a nice 6-8foot leash. Carry treats or a toy on walks. Reward for good walking. It will take time but all dogs learn through positive reinforcement. @@Nil-tz6gy it’s still the safest and most comfortable option for the dog to wear during walks. I use a leash belay system with a longline to mitigate pulling and save my shoulders.
@@nickwhite6717 I do teach them. But training takes time. It’s not good for the dogs to be constantly putting pressure on their neck while they are learning leash skills
I keep going through your videos, looking for one that can help me with my dogs and walking without tension. I have beagles, both rescued as adults. Their nose leads them and I can't find any ways to slow and calm them. I saw you have a couple puppy beagle training videos, but not adult hounds.
Can anyone give some advice on a 4 month old puppy who loves to fight? She ****ing LOVES IT!!!! WIN LOSS DRAW! it doesn't matter!! She's on smoke with ANY dog 100% of the time. Option 1: stop her. Which seems to only make her more pent up and ready for round 17 Option 2: let her do it she's only a puppy. Which worries us cos she might builr the habit and eventually do it to the wrong dog and then trauma bla bla you know the rest. This community seems great so if anyone could help me make the right decision that would mean the world. Thank you guys 🙏🏾
What do you mean by fighting? Do you mean play? If she wants to play, let her, as long as the other dog wants to play too. If she is actually fighting, I would recommend seeking help from a certified behaviour consultant or veterinary behaviourist
I wish we lived closure to you to get your help with our choc lab. We have a front and top clip harness but he is such a puller. I know it's us doing wrong but I don't know what to do right.
Harness won't stop your dog pulling, their chest is the strongest part of their body. 1) Use a different tool and 2) do directional changes as soon as you walk out the door for 2 or 3 minutes before you walk, as soon as he starts pulling go a different way. You won't get anywhere for a while but he'll learn if he pulls he's not ever going to get what he wants. If he walks nice he will.
@@ianjeffery3762 I pretty much exclusively use slip lead or prong collars but if you're really struggling and feel like you need to be walking your dog, you can use a gentle lead/head halti or your slip in a "straight 8" around the nose. The only problem I have with those last 2 options, is they work, but it doesn't build engagement between you and your dog. They're basically walking themselves, so they're not looking to you for guidance and direction. Depending on the dog that may not matter but it can lead to your dog making undesirable decisions, like being reactive. 5hat being said I walked my great Dane on a straight 8 through her terrible teens because she's bigger than me and didn't feel like listening for those few months. Before that I used a slip and now walk her on a prong. Hope that helps!
There are a couple on this channel, but my dog is terrible at break too and I'm a dog trainer 😂 She just stands there and looks at me like I'm an idiot, it's a tough one to fix!
If you know how to do this drill correctly it really only takes about 5 minutes, I've done it thousands of times myself, the only difference is he's just sharing the info for free
I have been working with my 22 month old female Golden Retriever, “Sandy” everyday since she first arrived at my home here in Phuket, Thailand at just 8 weeks. What a little Scallawag….!!! When I first picked her out of the litter at the Breeders home in Bangkok back in February 2021, I was actually thinking about naming her “Tsunami” (Sue-Nami)….. but given the actual Tsunami that hit Phuket in 2004….. I thought that calling her name out at the beach….. could be “problematic”…… Haha. The videos that Will has provided, as well as other trainers like Stoney Davis in the USA, have been a great help in this journey….. Many thanks…..
