A jumping training camp sounds wonderful! Your videos provide a bunch of info with jumping and I believe in person would provide even more and benefit the people who go!

@@Johnshepherdtrackcoach Although I’m based in the U.S. I believe that working on exercises for strength and to form more endurance, practicing the correct form and then feedback and help with actual jumping. Allowing one to be able to use what they’ve learned at the camp during the off season and during the season. I hope that this camp is successful for you and the people going though!

I think grouping would be a good idea. The question is when? In my opinion, it is best somewhere in a warm climate.

Would you let me know where you are based and what would be the best time for a camp? Many thanks

@@Johnshepherdtrackcoach I live in Poland. In my opinion, the best time before the start of the competition. In the winter season it would be January, and in the summer season at the turn of April/May or the beginning of May. I'm thinking about preparing for the 2024 season.

Great presentation as always,i do concur with cut back training from the end of each cycle. Or Simply take some time off and gradually phase in 50%training level for a week and resume normal training.💯👍

A training camp for jumpers would be great. Have been looking at the summer camp at Chula Vista, but the UK would be easier and cheaper👍

Ireland John. We communicated about it after the camp you organised in Portugal.

Hi John, what would this camp comprise of- other world class coaches working with you? Time length ? Time of year?
@Johnshepherdtrackcoach

Well, it’s all just planning and getting feedback at the moment. I’d only just thought about myself doing it, but if there was suffice t interest then potentially other coaches could be involved. Although that would raise the costs. What specifically would you like? A week??? A weekend??? And where? It would be easier for me to organise in the U.K. although I have thought also about Portugal… Monte Gordo… any thoughts would be appreciated.

I am a freshman in high school. If I triple jump 12m this outdoor season (seems reasonable based on practice and indoor marks) can I be at 14m by next indoor season if I really work over the offseason? I know it is ambitious goal, but I have a lot of time and want to jump 15.24m (50 feet) by my senior if not junior year

Hi Mr. Shepherd, I am a high school junior long and triple jumper located in Chicago, USA. I have my final indoor meet tomorrow and will begin my outdoor season in 1 week. I have 2 questions. Going into the outdoor season, where I will have usually 1 meet per week (Fri/Sat), how often should I work on my technique for both events, relative to sprint work and plyometric/weights? Also, I have noticed that my one of biggest problems is that my speed is generally lacking on the runway, so what distance would you find optimal to train repeats for a jumper my age (17)? Due to the fact that I am in the USA, it would be expensive for me to go to a camp in the UK, but I do have relatives that live in Birmingham that I’ve been meaning to visit. Thanks!
