Good but pulling down on the club doesn’t necessarily steepen it. Hand and wrist control prevent that from happening.

Rightly or wrongly I try to freeze my trail arm elbow angle as I begin the downswing. It forces me to rotate my body first, helps lag the club and deliver compression to the ball. This one swing thought alone has helped me massively.

Here's a quiz for ya. Name the professional golfer and TEACHER who did exactly what most say not to. His lower pelvis went right on the back swing and left on the downswing, but his head never moved. HINT: He also holds the longest drive in competition play.

Hi Danny. I am new to your channel. I enjoyed the content regarding this key move. Thank you. Perhaps, for me, what could be missing to it, would be, from where or from which part of the body you suggest this key move should be initiated: left knee, hip, left heel? In order to make more intuitive for the average player. Many thanks Kind regards
@dannymalcolmgolf
@dannymalcolmgolf 7 месяцев назад
Hi Brian, thank you so much for your kind feedback. Some players feel like they start with their lead knee, or hips. Others feel as though they are pushing from from their trail foot. There's no perfect answer for everyone on this. Personally, my feels for this change from time to time from all 3 of the above.
@johnblagg7021
@johnblagg7021 Год назад
If I start my transition move with my left knee once the backswing reaches hip height. I can't have a long backswing. Yet you say it is more desirable. So how do you get a long backswing I'm confused
@dannymalcolmgolf
@dannymalcolmgolf Год назад
Great question, John. A longer backswing can help some golfers as it can give them "more time" to organise themselves as they move in to the downswing, but it's not desirable for every player. The lower half would still initiate the downswing regardless of swing length. I hope that helps :)

The step drill cures many faults.. one that I used during even practice session. My focus is the step is more a fall to the left side and not pushing off with my right foot.
@dannymalcolmgolf
@dannymalcolmgolf Год назад
That's great Edward. I like the "fall" feeling too.
@tonygarner3942

The absolute best way to groove this feeling is one hand at a time. Teach each side to load and throw a frisbee… the golf swing IS throwing a frisbee. And the release happens well after impact and divot.. then, teach each arm to work together. Throwing a frisbee with two hands on it. This teaches how to load and maintain lag tension all the way into impact. I’ve picked up 15 yards with my mid irons only focusing on “throw a frisbee”. And the full release of “the frisbee throw” should happen when your left arm is parallel to the ground in the follow through. That’s actually where the follow through starts, and the momentum of the arm/club assembly pulls you into a finish position.
@dannymalcolmgolf
@dannymalcolmgolf 2 года назад
That's awesome to hear you've gained 15 yards, Tony! Sounds like you have found a feeling that's working well! :)

One of the good tips on u tube ,very well described.i have a very short backswing and I always think it's not long enough to give my body the chance to do what it needs to do ,I feel things will happen naturally if one can complete ther backswing shoulder under chin and high hands than everything falls into place unfortunately I struggle with this ,short backswing seems to be great tho for short irons more control!
@dannymalcolmgolf

Thanks for the feedback, Mark. Yes, I agree. It also depends on a persons body and their mobility too, so it's about finding the right fit for each player. Thanks for the watching!

"So a feeling you can take into transition is just that. Just a sensation of when you get to the top, the speed boat, your body, just does that nice little bump across. It's not going too aggressive. Just a nice softening. A nice little bump. Pressure into the left side. This is staying a little bit quieter up here and you'll see that club will just fall slightly underneath the initial plane. You won't pull on it, because as soon as you pull on anything, that's actually going to steepen the club. So you just want a nice little bump across with your lower half, putting that pressure into your lead side and then from there as soon as you push off the ground and start to rotate that club is going to naturally going to fling back out just by natural forces onto a good plane and get a beautiful delivery into impact. So that's the first feeling I want you to take into this." I'm sorry, what feeling? I don't doubt you know what you are doing, but I really can't understand what feeling you are trying to convey here. That seems like a whole bunch of ideas, not one feeling. I feel like the main thing you are saying is to have this nice little bump across. What does that mean? Are you saying to shift your pressure? Drop down? Slide? Rotate? What is a "bump across?"
@dannymalcolmgolf
@dannymalcolmgolf Год назад
Thanks for the message, Jason. Yeah, it was quite in depth wording, which I could have made simpler perhaps. Essentially, a little "bump" toward the target is the main takeaway or feeling from this and by "bump" I mean a lateral shift toward the target. Hope this helps simplify things. Thanks again for the comment and for watching. Danny

Is it not better to think of moving your tailbone toward the bottom of the of the front of ball divot than thinking of weight shift?
@dannymalcolmgolf

This is good too. Whatever 'feels' works for the player is the better one. The same feel that works for one person may not work for another, so when you find that feel that works... make a note of it somewhere :)

Can't have lag in the swing if the hips don't move first. If you tell a beginner to hit the ball as hard as they can, they almost always will lead with their lower body - at least a decent natural athlete will. It's crucial to hit the ball hard as you can, you can refine it later. It's almost impossible to teach somebody the movements needed to produce lag after they've been playing (poorly) for a long time.

Hi Danny I agree with everything you said not to do. So why set up with a straight( not lock trail arm) and a slightly flexed lead arm as you bend your body and place your club perpendicular to your ball and then swing over the top from the inside ( OTTFTI) that many great golfers do today and yesteryear; transition as they do using your entire right arm quickly drop the head of the club directly down to your ball tuning left to finish your swing? Like the rings around Saturn your club head swings naturally along it’s swing circle center. At age 75 i discovered It’s almost automatic. Cheers

@@waynesorensen7071 at the top of your swing start your downswing by pushing your right shoulder forward from the inside closest to your torso. The water skier is not flung out by natural forces. The skier continues on a straight line until the force of the rope accelerates the skier into a circular path. If you let go of the club mid-swing, it will continue with the last velocity (speed + direction) it had at the moment of let-go. Obviously you provide the inward (not let it go) force to swing the club on a roughly circular path. (Physicist & golfer!)
