Hi Padraig, what's next after the start of the downswing? Do I just rotate and the release of the club head happen naturally? The problem I am having right now is the casting and this video is perfect for me to fix it. Thank you!
Can you elaborate on the bending of the left wrist at the start of the downswing please Champ 🏆 you seem to have a way of explaining intricate moves like no-one else can ⛳
Probably one of the best instruction videos I have ever seen. Immediately gave me more distance and the much wanted draw. I can now complete my swing with much more confidence without a fear of slicing. Paddy, thank you very much !!!
Padraig, I can't thank you enough for these videos. I am teaching myself Golf from scratch as i am going to use that as my LIIT cardio to lose couple hundred pounds and I'm just following the roadmap youve made. I'm just doing nothing but chipping and putting atm w/ 1/2 swing. Got a $200 set of Spalding clubs from amazon and gonna buy a season pass soon as courses open up in a few weeks here in North Dakota and play 3-4x a week. So much more engaging and fun than statically walking 1-2 hours. Plus w/ the backpack style golf bag it's like a light day hike. Anyways, I don't have the money to pay for lessons so teaching myself and was a lil overwhelmed with all the different info and you provided a clear and concise roadmap from chipping all the way to driving and progressively more intricate motions. My plan is to to just focus on each section until I get it down and figure at the end of it I should have a good foundation to build upon. Thank you so much for providing this for free here on RU-vid w/o a paywall. I think starting w/ nothing but 1/2 swing chipping has really helped me because obviously i'm hella fat right now KEKW and trying to emulate a 180lb normal dudes swing wasn't working, but just naturally moving athletically like you suggest is making a huge difference.
We are beyond lucky to have such a wonderful and talented guy like Paddy that takes his time help us Amatures! Thank you and congrats for your entry to World Golf Hall of Fame!!!
So, by far my biggest problem, to overcome the “hit” instinct and come over the top. I’ll bet the single most common problem among all amateur golfers. Two things: first, I tried this with resistance bands from the top of a door and immediately got the feedback of starting with the body, with the arms following behind as opposed to trying to “hit” the ball by muscling the club with the arms. Second, what a class act, golf HoFer, major champion, Ryder Cup captain, putting out the best, most practical, easy to understand instruction content on RU-vid for free. Thank you, Captain Harrington.
I started following the tips in your channel and my handicap dropped from 11 to 8 (best I have even been). I cant thank you enough for what you do in this channel. The biggest takeaway for me was how having a proper grip is critical for hitting the golf ball well. It always been an after thought for me.
As always, great info Paddy. We really appreciate you putting in this time and effort to help us improve. Best wishes and best of luck to you. Cal in Texas.
Drills on how to keep the hands/arms in front and not get stuck or left behind in down swing, to help with more consistent and solid impact with irons. As below, thank you, really enjoy your videos and much appreciated.
Padraig, would love to see an episode where you cover tempo. I have a tendency to get fast on the downswing resulting in poor shots, lack of control, falling off finish etc. Paddy
I love your tips, you are straight forward and no sweet talk, say it as it must be. Thank you for your contribution Padraig you are a true inspiration 🏌🏻🏌🏻🏌🏻
i subscribed when you had just a couple of videos, about 4k subs.. you have only 88k now. people dont appreciate what a great player you were and are! awesome tips!
So there's a *cinching feeling* with that left arm then? Justin Rose talked about feeling the left arm slide across the upper torso in the downswing. So many great tips! 👌
Cool, I seek this answer last 9 weeks .. after 20 plus different methods, still struggling, this is the best way I believe, cannot wait to try it out.. thanks
Fortunate to watch you practice and play Valero on Friday. The practice session and your warm up was such a great experience and lesson for me. The exaggeration of your turn was something I’ll never forget and am adding to my practice. A particular shot on #2, your second shot, was such a great example of what you’re teaching here. Thanks so much for taking the time and sharing your thoughts and ideas with us. Good luck today at Valero and all of your future endeavors.
God love ya' Paddy! Thanks for bringing us more great golf tips so us old duffers can get around the course with a wee bit lower scores (like 99 instead of 100!).
This is awesome. Getting a You Tube lesson from the Open Champion is like a dream come true. I'm gonna do this drill for 5,000 reps a day. Thanks Mr Harrington. 😊
So approx..two and a half our repeats????😢😮 Practice requires to be very conscientious to train your muscle memory. It's the quality not the quality that make things to stick. Succes...😊
Great video! It is funny how this is so different from what most of the teachers online say to do to start the downswing. I will go with this since he is a proven tour winner!
I've been driven demented with my over the top move, I've literally been in tears with it. I know, its sad, but it nearly finished me in golf. Its a disease. I'll try this. I've got to or I'll be in the sanitorium soon. Thanks Paddy. A true analyst of the game.
This is a great explanation of downswing and shallowing the club. Actually, how to shallow the club, not shallowing the club itself, it comes the weight shift and body movement, stretching as Mr Harrington says.
that's a great tip Paddy thanks. I agree that shallowing movement which has become very popular is something that really should emerge naturally when the lower body initiates the downswing-as opposed to consciously trying to shallow the club.
Thanks a mil for this lesson, its something I think I struggle with and I can never get a consistent felling or mindset at this point in the swing. I think its the most important part of the swing. Can I also say if you ever tried out for a part in Saturday Night Fever I'm sure you'd get it with those moves 😄
Like every weekend golfers looking for that piece of information to make my game better this feeling is very similar to turning your left in to the ground clockwise on the start of my backswing & then turning my right foot clockwise at the start of my downswing so it feels like my shoes are gripping the grass, feels like I gain torque in my swing, difficult to ect but same feeling 🤪⛳️
I just had a light bulb moment. Transition has been one thing that messes with me and my golf swing, I'm great at compressing the ball but my transition is never consistent. You can get 100 people to give you a tip but it just takes that one person to show you a different way or explain it a different way that it clicks. This clicked for me! I love your content, I love the way you present. Keep at it
I play off 1 handicap and absolutely love your tips more than any other teacher. Thank you . However, one thing you haven’t focused on , especially on chipping and pitching, is the release after the ball. You seem to release underneath so butt end faces tummy fire the strike , but without scooping, rather than holding face up to sky . How do you get to that position automatically? What is the focus . Hands and arms or body hitting ball?
Hi Mr Harrington and thank you so much for your series!! You asked what we would like to see next and I don’t know if this is possible, but… I went and watched a PGA Tour tournament and I was most impressed by how little mental energy it seemed they were putting into the physical moves. When they hit shots, it looked like they were folding laundry or checking the mail. What steps can we amateurs take to make the process of hitting shots more unconscious? I ask because most of the regular golfers I see, when they step up to a tee shot, look like they’re preparing to solve a Rubik’s cube or pilot a space shuttle. Even if we suck, how can we make the small skills we do have more automatic? Again thank you so much for this series!!
Your amazing Padraig watching you in Texas -5 at moment in your second round keep it up lets win this and take on Augusta for the 18th time. Go Padraig
Will work on this feeling and check back with the channel in 2 weeks. The start of the downswing has always felt inconsistent in my swing. I can see at the 3:10 mark you keep the arms 'infront' of the chest while separating the hips. when attempting this for the first time i felt much easier to keep the arms infront of the chest and produce a decent downswing. Will devote more time to this.
Paddy, you're the best! Good luck in PGA and U.S Open! Like to see how you hit in between yardages. Easy 7 versus a hard 8..! For example, do you cut a soft 7 and choke down on the club.
Have you tried bowing the wrist at the top of the backswing like Rahm and Dj? Otherwise people who are cupped will generally start to bow their wrist early in the downswing like right away. Hogan had a very cupped wrist in the back swing but at like P6 where the club is parallel to the ground he was bowed.
@@yooper9062 I have, but that feels very unnatural. I have to focus on keeping the wrist straight, backswing short (or what feels short to me) and then I can get the correct angle by feeling that I point the back of the hand to the ground. But sometimes it just slowly creeps back in, the swing becomes too much arms and to get enough "rotation" I start cupping.
thank you so much for this video, great feel drill!! if possible i would appreciate how do you translate that feel with the driver plus the release thank you in advance this is such a priviledge for us to get this kind of content from a major champion!!
I understand that pros need a full back swing for speed thus getting distance. Now for us casual golfers where a 75 to 80 mile per swing comes into play, my question is this: Instead of a full back swing and dropping the club head down into the slot, is there a way to have a back swing that is already positioned in the slot ? Basically a back swing into and out of the slot ?
Your tips have already completely improved my chipping and putting immensly. They are next level. It is so cool. But I am still struggling with lowpoint on irons and hybrids. Any tips on bringing the low point targetside the ball when you are 5 inches before the ball currently?
Hi paddy rhythm and tempo, I used to have a good tempo but now just swing the club but can't feel any tempo or rhythm. Over the top contact breaking of the wrists. Deflated golf swing really. Thanks ste s
