Very nice trick. I liked the explanation on the reason behind it, I now get why my armies sometimes get stuck on forts for seemingly no reason.

Very useful video as always. Can I ask you what the names of the songs you use in your videos are? They look wonderful. Also, I would like to see you in full campaign videos to check what you do step by step. Many people would like to watch you even 5 hours straight.

Thanks for sharing this trick. Have you tested it against a stronger enemy like France? Can you help England in the HYW against France or will the army be whiped by the forces of the apanages even if one big stack is trapped?

dude , u no need this trick to win against france by playing eng. It is winnable bcz you have fleet. Just make 6 more transports (must be 24 at all i think) and take mercs that have good general (somethimes there is 3/5 or 5/4 or even better) and play on speed 3 and take your time. Cale and Labourd is good target to do naval invasion (in your own castles) . Cale almost always siege by small stacks of appanages , so it`s easy to wipe them , then labourd(or bordo i didn`t remember name on province with castle) have -1 for frenchy and even -2 bcz of river crossing if (and they almost always) come from your 2-nd province. So that fight easy too. And finally the easiest one to fight is normandy. And that bcz you simple can reinforce battle with troops from mainland. Dude i`ll love play england , and believe me , it so easy to coquer ireland , subj Scotland and PU france in less then 10 yrs (ye that quite a big AE , but git good ,after you do war of roses event, and you must do it or you lose PU over frenchy , take -10% AE , that must help some) And never afraid to take PU over France , that just based move , french is giga-strong battle-cock , just decalre war on anybody - he win it for you. P.S. one time i`ll do it Alone , without any allies , and our loses be like 30 to 90 k ratio , without any tech advantages. Just do some good Stack wipes on transpoting into your castles. transport troops , take a good fight , transport it back to mainland ,merge regular troops , buy mercs so your entire troops become mercs untill end of war (better save manpower for another wars), w8 some , repeat. (and remember , you can`t split mers , so take your eyes on how big merc stack and your transport ship numbers)

@@zagsarraykland6291 i know how to win as England or France the HYW. I meant to stay as Portugal and support England and win together the HYW. If you play as Portugal the first steps in HYW of France are crushing your armies if it gets access through the iberian peninsula. With this trick and a not so competent France maybe AI England has a chance. If France performs poorly even Burgundy attacks.

well to support eng (idk even why, but whatever) you just do exactly same thing , just build enough transports and troops as your CW(+2 be better for some reinforce , sometimes battle can be rough thx to dice) and sail to labourd, normandy and cale. Just do same things , portugal ez maintain big and stronger fleet then french. And only if ARA give acces to FRA you CAN be targeted , but if fra didn`t siege any of 3 eng forts , and eng start to siege some of fra , the come back to defend itself , and only appanages don`t give a f* about that , and you know , 3-8 k stacks that not a threat to you. I really didn`t understand why ppl just never use or think about transports and landing into castles. You didn`t have debuff, enemy have it. Ai struggle to understand where your troops, when you move it throug sea , so this is so easy to pick off some stacks and make your enemy weaker.

I really wish EU4 or with EU5 there is a way combat evolves into HOI4 style front lines and attack orders as you progress into the late game. I really enjoy this type of Micro in the early game as it has huge rewards, as evidenced here. But the main reason late game EU4 becomes a slog is because combat is simply unfun.

I think the problem is a lack of defensive buffs and high combat width, if you would get more defensive buffs and reserve damage would be scaled up, making frontlines would become a better call than big stacks

Dude , frontlines can`t be a thing in medieval time and even in napoleonic army era this is stiil doesn`t exist properly bcz of lack of troops. How do you even imagine to hold frontlines of whole France, and it`s subjects, and conquered countries with 600k man that Grande Armée have at it`s peak in 1812 spread along the front??? Thats why such thing as forts and castles exists. To slow down enemy and gain time to react to enemy moves, merge your corps and strike with full force in big battle. It`s maybe not so fun to have combats like that , but that atleast more reallistical for that period of time then wishing to have a f*king frontlines in even napoleonic era. Not even mention about huge struggle to make different system of battle and wars in 1 game from coding perspetive. What a friking moronic way of thinking. Or nvm that too huge to name that "thinking" nor "wishing"

Eu5 will have an objective system, where you can assign objectives to specific armies and they will behave similarly to subject armies. We still know very little about this but it seems very promising

Wait, is the fact that it is a capital fort significant for timing? If this was not a capital fort, would just turning it on be enough, or would you have to wait for a month tick to refill the garrison?

It never takes a monthtick... it only takes 1 day to update either way... and the capital Fort is completly irrelevant

Capital fort helps prevent the enemy from taking the fort before it can build a garrison. "The enemy escapes if they take the fort" is assumed knowledge in the video.

Would this also work for forts bordering neutral provinces? Lets say you are playing as Saxony and you are attempting to do this strategy with the fort on Dresden. Would Brandenburger troops retreat into Bohemia? Would they need military access to do this?

No, but then the controlled province can be on the neutral border so one province closer

This would work regardless of neutral borders. The ZOC has to not border any provinces the enemy army owns.

This will be OP for a Byzantium start right? Have your main army on the fort in Morea, lure the Ottomans to the 2 adjacent provinces, then stackwipe them

I think sacrificing those 1k stacks was unnecessary. You could save them by embarking them on a transport ship after the enemy has already locked on the province, and just sail them somewhere safe.

@@thestudentYT I meant that you can move the stack via transports before the enemy stack can arrive on that province, but after it is 'locked' it's movement there , so the AI cannot switch the direction. A transport usually moves out of port in 1-2 days, so as long as you time it right you should be able to escape. At least i think so, am i missing something? I don't think even the AI can stop the movement once it's locked. Anyway, the other comment is right, i'm being too prickly about things that do not matter for this demonstration. Thanks for the clever trick, and keep up the good content!

@@Yansigizmund True, if there's a transport in the harbor, land army can select "attach to transport" and instantly be taken aboard when ship is given a move command.

Or just do a triangle or square fort formation . Disable 1 , let the enemy enter , pay again the fort and enjoi the net

And what of my earlier videos weren't this kind of videos? Maybe the one where I showed Siberian Frontiers in America? Or the one where I showed how the Sich Rada Government gives you insane Armies and Infinite Manpower? Or the one where I showed that Breakaway states can have +10% Discipline in their Ideas? Under all of these videos everyone was saying that they liked the Ideas and wanted to replay them... but all of these videos are way more exploits than this one here right? So what videos are you talking about that made the Game more interesting?

@@thestudentYT ‘I’ve always been into exploits’ isn’t exactly the great rebuttal you seem to think it is to people who don’t like exploits. I know you have, and if you honestly feel like you haven’t been pivoting towards that sort of content more, that’s fine. And even if you are, it’s probably because that’s what gets the views so I understand. I’m just telling you it’s not my preference; I’m here for the type of videos where we learn about trade companies or certain widely available gov reforms or how to form Jerusalem or the Hansa as any nation: stuff that is useful for almost anyone, as any tag and can be considered in any run. Also, Siberian council shenanigans videos aren’t likely to ruin my MP sessions if my players see them, and this one is, so maybe that’s why its upsetting me more than it should.

@@thestudentYT would this get banned in comp MP did people use it widely? Did paradox intend fort zone of control and return province to be used in such a way? If it weren't a Game Mechanic, it would be a cheat or a hack, yk like cheat engine also i stated that its a pretty nice exploit which i will certainly start using against AI, so i don't see why the 2 questionmarks 😭

Game mechanic used in unintended way is the definition of exploit. ZoC is explicitly intended to prevent passage through a fort, never to prevent retreat. This is not CHEATING but it is the most perfect defining example of an exploit I've ever seen.
