Staph is not fungus it is a bacteria and a fungicide would have no effect on it. I do not think that a fungicide will do any harm though, just an extra product to purchase. Cleaning the foot and using the wound wash (Vetericyn) or an antiseptic however will go a long way in helping the foot heal. Using some antibiotic ointment will help a great deal also.

Crazy that you mentioned the Americauna with one on top of the foot..we have the same breed and she has two on top of her foot between two different toes! Really glad you mentioned that. Thanks for the great information.

Thanks so much for the very informative video. I too have been fairly unsuccessful with surgical methods of fixing bumblefoot, so I'm looking forward to trying your nonsurgical recommendations.

By the way, the whatever happened off camera between 5:43 and 5:59, the lady on the left's reaction is hilarious.

why do you say that bumblefoot is a staph infection in the beginning, then switch and say it is a yeast or fungal infection half way through. It is a staph, bacterial infection.

Omg this has to be a joke!!! Note to viewers- fungus and bacterial infections are caused by different pathogens. Additionally, if it’s fungal, then why are they giving antibiotics??? I wouldn’t trust the health of my birds with information from people who can’t differentiate these organisms- but I’m sure most of you know this!

@@samdavies9885 good to ask questions but why so ... Ick! Quick to judge and attempt to discredit? Perhaps you are an MD? Or have strong science or biology background? Not I. I am a small farmer with a beloved backyard flock and I value the sisters as one of many sources of information. Thank you, sisters. You are awesome. And Sam, just be nice.

@Tamar Komla I’m sure you love your birds and want the best information in treating their health ailments. I am just pointing out that the information here is not credible- therefor I urge the viewer to do more research. Additionally I think these girls should pull this video- it’s a disservice to their viewers and irresponsible to promote inaccurate information. This information was questioned 6 months ago...why haven’t they pulled or updated the information? I’m not being mean- I’m pointing this information out so that others are aware. How is that not a nice thing to do? Are you prepared for your bird to go septic or develop osteomyelitis because bumble was not treated properly? I’m not! I love my birds and I want the best information so that I can have a good outcome!

I have had disasters with the surgeries. One thing that ALWAYS works is the "Epsom Salt Poultice" It looks like green slime but it is wonderful stuff and pulls the infection out of the foot. It may take months, but it will work without surgery. Or a vet visit.

That is awesome to hear. We are certainly no experts, just doing what we know, so input from other keepers is always great to hear!

@@pattysherwood7091, where do you get the Epsom salt poultice?
@pattysherwood7091

Kristy Schemrich at the Blue Seal Feeds. It’s for horses and other livestock but it has Epsom salts and a bit of aspirin in it, I believe.

You said you applied blu kote every day until the scab mushrooms. Did you wrap the foot up every single day in the beginning days of treatment, or did you apply blu kote to the foot and let the chicken back in the run without a bandage and wrap?
@cedarcrestfarm1773
@cedarcrestfarm1773 6 лет назад
Clean it out really well the first day, bluekote and wrap it. Check it every couple of days and clean out the best you can until it is gone.

Do I need to keep chicken confined whilst treating bumble foot?
@winniecash1654
@winniecash1654 11 месяцев назад
No. But the foot could and maybe should be bandaged to avoid further infection. Bandages should be changed daily.
