Sweetie has a mild case of bumblefoot, and she's my first chicken to get it. I'm a complete rookie treating this, but it turned out to be way easier than I thought!
I absolutely love and appreciate this video, I discovered one of my hens with the early stages of bumble foot. First timer here, thank you for sharing even with how nervous you were!
Funny how when they get egg bound, you can just put nice warm water in the bathtub and set them and and leave them and they will just stay put. I have never had one with bumble foot before. But now I know what to do. Thanks
I wish I would have checked my chicken's feet more often. I have a chicken with a really bad bubble. I did not notice until it started limping. So far we've been soaking for almost a week. The bumble has attached itself to the skin of the foot. Trying to remove it it started to bleed. I am soaking it longer to make it easier. Excellent job by the way!❤
This chicken did not have bumble foot. She had some impacted rocks or stones and dirt. No scab was pulled off, as there wasn’t one, and no kernel of infected tissue was pushed out from it, which would look a whitish yellow in colour. It would also leave. A big hole and usually small amt of blood present as well. So yea, I think you thought it looked like bumble foot as you saw a darker area but just some impacted stones and dirt.
Thanks for giving me the courage to attempt this! Just finished so I can’t give a recovery report, but my hen seems more comfortable already. I know this is a gross thing to say, but it was a bit like removing a huge blackhead 😂
That was 9 months ago now, I would be interested in an update if she has stayed good. Just, you did not remove any dead material or "kernel" from inside after you removed the scab, I would like to know if this was successful long term.
Hi there! Yes it was. We kept ointment on it for a couple of weeks and prevented infection from worsening or spreading. I will say that getting it in the webbing has made it so that she gets dirt stuck in those spots from time to time but it comes out w a quick soak.
wow thanks for this. I feel I can attempt the soak. Not sure if she has bumblefoot but want to soak and check. Did the tape stay on? Did you need to change it daily?
Don’t you have to squeeze out the infected tissue after pulling the acab off?? That’s like taking a scab off a pimple but not squeezing out the pus/sebum from it. What was the point??
Those don’t look like bubble foot at all. More like an impacted rock or stone with dirt. She didn’t peel off a scab or squeeze out the infected tissue which is whitish yellow. This chicken did not have jumbo foot. Also the foot wasn’t even hugely swollen like you see with bumble foot
So I’m new to this… if this is just impacted dirt, stone, etc …. does it need to be removed like she did in this video to keep it from becoming bumble foot????
