In the entirety of RU-vid, you're the one explaining this the best manner. I pulled my left groin muscle so I feel tense in between my inner thigh and left testicles. No pain just tense and discomfort. Doctor said I've strained the muscle there. It has been 4 weeks now and the recovery had been slow. But after watching your video I understand that I need to be patient with it. Thanks for your content. It has put my mind in ease as I was worried. Lots of love ❤

Thank you so much! My teenage son suffered a calf injury playing intense sports. We did not do the right thing the first week. I took him to a sports medicine doctor who did convince my son to rest it for a full week but did not give us good advice on what steps to take next. @dixiebock6722
@dixiebock6722 Год назад
@@davidanslow4294 He did end up resting for a full 5or6 weeks (i cant remember now) he worked with an athletic trainer and was able to speed up his recovery by riding an exercise bike, in a very specific way so he was not engaging his calf muscle, but it generated lots of blood flow and really helped him stay up on his cardio while resting. Also, when he returned to activity he had muscle spasm issues which was a bit confusing and made it a little hard to figure out if he had re-injured his leg. Fortunately I was able to talk to an acupuncturist friend and another friend who is a doctor and figured out what was happening. Pins and Needles in your hands from a shoulder injury sounds like a pinched nerve or nerve damage. I think this can also be from swelling. Not sure if that relates at all to torn or strained muscles.

Thank you for your video! It helps me to feel reassured that I am indeed in the healing process. I've dislocated my shoulder at work, 7 months ago (don't worry, I've been looked at and had a few scans, but man this is ridiculously long and worries me) I'm always & still am having a tough time getting doctor's appointments. My next one is in 2 weeks, but I wish it could be sooner. The severity of this pain makes it unbareable to use it, sometimes use it at all..... so until the doctor's app, I'll treat it as a muscle tear to reduce long term effects. Thank you, I had heard that before but never tried it. I just lightly teared the very top of my quadriceps two days ago and today managed a slow run, over 6'/Km pace, without pain. I used to wait for weeks in the past. The other new thing from this video is the 10' only ice application. This time I didn't put any ice on because I couldn't find a way to keep it there, had I known that before I could have easily done the 10' application. It's psychologically so much better to be able to do something rather than sitting waiting for the muscle to heal, Subscribed from now on.

I got a muscle strain in my foot about a week ago. The foot can still be used, but pain and inflammation is the basic symptoms I have. I think I stepped on a tree stump. I don't think it's severe, mild to moderate, really. I've occasionally stretched it, gently. The problem is on the right side of my foot. I've used a bandage for a little less than a day, it's a lot better today.

Thank you for this video, I strained my lower back ( at least I think, fuck I felt like my back muscle was being torn apart), I took painkillers and did some basic exercises ( the first days were hell, could not even do bird-dog) now one week after the injury, I can do it very well and even bend over ( little pain yet, so I just try it to see if I get pain or not, but I don't like to bend due to the stress it does on a non-injured back, so I just squat to pick up something). I am considering returning to the gym just for basic exercises like a stationary bike, some free weights lunge, calf raises, and upper body workout ( no back with weights, for now, just isometric)

No bruises or swelling, but a good portion of my back is in lots of pain.. ER said I pulled a muscle. Went to my spine dr. He said same thing. Muscle pull, you’ll be fine in a few weeks. 5 days in and it seems like certain movements hurt like hell. I feel skeptical of these answers the drs give. I feel like a tear in the back would need surgery? I also know the back is like one big muscle.Wondering if I need an mri or if my body can actually heal from whatever the hell happened. Thanks for the great information as always!
@SportsInjuryPhysio
@SportsInjuryPhysio 2 года назад
Actually our backs are made up of bones that are connected with extremely strong ligaments and then lots of different muscles. You have small muscles that run from each vertebrae to the next and stabilizes the back. Then you have several large muscles that are located in your back. Just like with the rest of your body, you can strain a muscle, ligament or joint in your back. Muscle strains in the back can hurt a lot. It can take 4 weeks sometimes to see any real improvement and then 6 to 12 to recover fully. Best of luck with your recovery.

@SportsInjuryPhysio
@SportsInjuryPhysio 10 месяцев назад
If the current level you are training at feels 100% fine, then increase the weights only very slightly for the next session and do fewer repetitions for the first session - so you test the new weight with very easy session. Then you build the reps of that weight up. If you wanted help with your rehab and an exercise plan, this is something that our team of physios can assess and help you with via video call. Love your advice on gradual strength progression. You may want to check into the turnaround of using ice though. 10 years ago, Dr Gabe Mirkin who coins the term and protocol of RICE, recanted the use of ice. There’s great education from Mike Stella and Kelly Starrett on the subject!
@SportsInjuryPhysio
@SportsInjuryPhysio Месяц назад
Ice is one of those things where I feel the baby is being thrown out with the bathwater. Instead of having a nuanced approach people are turning against it and there really isn't overly strong evidence to support a view of using no ice. I am yet to find any studies where they actually test how the use of ice vs. no ice affect recovery in real people - not just theoretical work based on lab studies that doesn't present what happens in the real world. It's like with passive stretching - where people were shouting about how bad it is for you etc. and then researchers started doing better trials that actually represented what athletes do in practice (passive stretches followed by active) and found that it had no negative effects if you use it like that. So far, what we know is that regular cooling after strength training may attenuated your strength gains. But again, post workout cooling has a place depending on the situation - if you are looking to recover a bit more quickly before doing your next event (so strength gains are not your priority) then it is something to use. Instances where I still advise ice for injuries include: 1. Immediately after injury to help stop bleeding - this is not wack it on and leave it there - it is for 10 minutes - at this point there is no inflammatory reaction yet so it does not have an impact on that. But what it does is stop the internal bleeding to limit secondary injury due to increased pressure from excessive swelling and bleeding. It also slows the metabolism of the cells, so if they are starved of oxygen due to the increased pressure from lots of internal bleeding (especially if it is inside muscle sheath) then they are less likely to die. 2. If someone is experiencing high levels of pain - ice, for me is always a better choice than medication because it doesn't affect the system for as long and does not have any nasty side effects. Again, it is not meant to be used excessive but rather in short bursts and only as needed. 3. If someone has excessive swelling - in my opinion the negative effect from excessive swelling on the tissue outweighs any negative effect of ice applied for short periods to help reduce it.

Thank you so much for this video! I just finally got a diagnosis via ultrasound for bilateral burning foot pain I’ve had for over a year. What I initially thought was tarsal tunnel is a bilateral second degree tear in my abductor hallicis that is irritating/compressing nerves and causing the bottoms of my feet to burn and hurt. I don’t recall any specific incident but I was on my feet a lot and pushing around a lot of equipment to do a renovation at that time. My diagnostician recommended injections to heal them as it’s been upwards of 14 months and they’ve not healed. Are there any dos and don’ts at this time? Hi great video btw, addressed everything. Got a question, I injured my knee, it was swollen at first and I did everything to get it back working, but its been six weeks now, and I still feel pain from my outer quads, and when the knee is bent the patella tendonitis is a bit swollen, I still feel a bit of pain when bending the knee, and running but I don't force myself to run hard, I don't know how to go about it now? this is the longest recovery time for an injury for me so, I don't know what to do? Could you give me some advice on it. thank you.
@SportsInjuryPhysio
@SportsInjuryPhysio 2 месяца назад
It really depends on what is wrong with your knee - it may be a normal recovery time depending on what you've actually injured in/or around the knee. I discuss how to distinguish between the main types of knee injuries in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TIQfC7Wgb_s.html If you wanted help figuring this out a rehab plan, this is something that our team of physios can assess and help you with via video call. i (think) i have received a level 1 or 2 muscle strain. it hurts whenever i rest it, and hurts a bit more when i walk and jog, but hurts terribly if i run. i have to do a ten minute run for gym class every wednesday too, so this is gonna suck. especially since that’s tomorrow and my parents just keep forgetting to write me a note for me to take.

Is there always bruising or swelling with a level 2 significant injury? I tripped two week ago and felt something “rip,” but it was more the sound then the same feeling and sound when I tore my acl and meniscus years earlier… I can feel the pain in my deep glute max. I iced and took it easy and been doing it for about a week. Then slipped a bit and felt it again and then re did ice… now it’s been about a week and it feels better. Still staying away from glute moves, but can activate it and walk. Is this is a grade 1?
@SportsInjuryPhysio
@SportsInjuryPhysio Год назад
You will only see bruising if it tore very superficially and the blood is able to come to the surface. Even severe grade 2 tears won't show bruising if they are deep or if the blood is contained within the sheath that surrounds the muscle. Muscle tears are classed according to loss of strength. With a grad1 one you have minimal discomfort and pretty much full strength. With grade 2 you have some loss of strenght + pain when you try to stretch the muscles + pain when you try and contract against resistance - how much pain will depend on how severe your grade 2 is.

What is the significance of muscle spasms in the strained muscle. I don't seem to be making progress after resting for 5 days. It's in my back after over stretching and then lifting. The pain and spasming is around my left scapula.
@SportsInjuryPhysio
@SportsInjuryPhysio 2 года назад
When you sprain a back, you often also injure some of the little joints and the spasms you experience is often an attempt of the body to just splint the area. It can be dependent on what you do and what positions you are taking it into. Perhaps you should consult a physio who can give you advice on what exercises and movements to do or avoid.

I strained or tore a muscle inside my right upper thigh about 2 weeks ago. It only started hurting 4 days ago, and I started using a crutch to stay mobile but take the weight off it. Today I feel slighly better but still need the crutch. What small movements can I do, like the ones you showed with the calf muscle, to start to get this area back to full health? I've cancelled my acquagym as we're concentrating on legs right now and that just isn't good for me right now. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
@SportsInjuryPhysio
@SportsInjuryPhysio 2 месяца назад
I can't really advise on what to do because it doesn't sound like a normal strain injury. When you strain a muscle, the pain sets in immediately - it doesn't take 10 days to start. Best to get it checked by a physiotherapist.

Three days back, I experienced a strain in my pectoralis major muscle while exercising, accompanied by a tearing sound. Consequently, I developed significant bruising on my biceps. The initial days were marked by intense pain, which has gradually subsided since then. The severity of the strain is uncertain, likely falling between grade 2 and 3, although a definitive diagnosis without medical consultation is challenging. Initially, I couldn't lift my arm sideways, but now I can. Though not completely pain-free, the discomfort has notably reduced compared to the initial two days. Are there alternative methods to determine the extent of the strain besides consulting a doctor? Thanks in advance!
@SportsInjuryPhysio
@SportsInjuryPhysio Месяц назад
Not really - you need to test the affected muscle and I am not even sure what it is that you have torn from what you describe. One also need to look at the anatomy and make sure the tendon isn't affected.

10/10 video, I've had an inner soleus strain for like 2 years now, because no one told me this info. Its an on off injury, I just injured it again recently. I assume I should wait for pain to subside and start with simple movements. But in terms of strengthening how often should exercises be done?
@SportsInjuryPhysio

It really depends on what you are doing. Low load exercises can be done daily but once it transitions into proper strength training, then usually only 2 or 3 times a week with at least one rest day between sessions. @SportsInjuryPhysio
@SportsInjuryPhysio 2 года назад
You need to speak with your doctor because the cause of the rhabdomyolysis is significant and this is not something that you should take advice on from anyone who has not done a full assessment of you. Your situation needs more careful attention than for someone who has just injured themselves with a simple sports injury.

It depends on what is going on - if the pain is more over the side or into the glute muscles then it may be gluteal tendinopathy in which case this video can help: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Ca94XHIooI4.html But if the pain is more around the sit-bone then it may be high hamstring tendinopathy in case this playlist may be of use: ru-vid.com/group/PLkRW4ITRa6bCsSsh_kcF8gX6pPUXFYZkU
