I have been trying to figure out what to do about my melasma as it bothers me greatly. My doctor doesn't feel it's a problem so I don't get a referral to see a dermatologist. Am so afraid to do a chemical peel as my skin is sensitive. But your explanation of reducing pore size, acne scaring and melasma all which I have ) ; has me thinking in heading that direction! Thank you for sharing this information...giving me hope I can feel better about the possibility of improving my skin! :-)

Yes, you can start slow with mild peels is best. Many products lighten melasma. You do not need prescription strength .....just be diligent with your daily sunblock and use brightening products (serums and moisturizers). It will naturally lighten your melasma also helping many other aspects of the skin:))

I would like to know what is in some of the products particularly the healing gel that you used on her… I am also interested in the milk peel as it is important to know what you’re using on the skin Why. Thank you so much

The healing gel is 98% aloe vera. Our website will be up by the end of the month so you will be able to see so much information with a consumer side and a professional side for the Esti's showing treatments and home care recommendations .

Hi Nerida, thank you so much for all of the information that you are putting out here!! It's been an incredible luck finding your channel here! :) I have just finished watching all of your melasma relating videos, and I was hoping that you can help me out with some advice, or maybe you could address this question in some of your future videos as I didn't find an answer to it here. I have recently had a client who had suffered with melasma in the past and still currently has some hyper pigmented areas on her face. She first ever experienced it during her first pregnancy and later on worked with the dermatologist who prescribed her a complex of products to use which she said had helped her significantly (unfortunately I don't know of exact products/ingredients she used, as far as I'm aware of at least one of them had a form of retinol in it). She's currently pregnant with her second child and looking into having some type of safe routine to help prevent the melasma from appearing in the new areas/getting stronger in the existing spots. What would be your suggestion for a pregnancy safe routine for her aside from just using a good physical sunscreen on a regular? And in general what is your opinion regarding pregnancy related melasma? Any particular things to be aware of? Again thank you for sharing all of your knowledge here!! :) And sorry for such a long comment :)

Hi there Yuliya, She can use only a Vitamin C for added daytime protection and a strong spf 40plus while she is pregnant. You cannot fight against it while pregnant but you can help stop additional sun exposure and add strong protection with a physical sunblock. She will have to wait to do the after care brightening. Her previous product given to her by her dermatologist i can guarantee would have had hydroquinone in with the retinol. If she used it without the breaks (after 6-8 weeks) it has already messed up the melanocytes. Sadly, this is why its a constant battle.

Hi Nerida, thank you for such a quick reply! And thanks for all the recommendations! Will definitely look into Vit C products that we have! :) Would you suggest using just an enzyme based exfoliant on her during the facials then or would it be ok to have something with lets say lactic acid in it??
@NeridaJoySkincare

I really like using enzyme exfoliants on 98% of my clients after cleansing.... lactic after extractions often:))

Nerida, thank you for all of your videos. They are so informative and you have such a lovely voice. Can you please do a video on how to select/find a good esthetician. There are so many spas and dermatologists in my area, but if I am going to spend my time and money, I want to go to someone who really knows what they are doing. Is there a particular certification I can look for? Or are there particular questions you can recommend I ask when booking? You really have spoiled me...want to open a location in Philadelphia?

Hi Janessa! 👋🏼 it is very difficult choosing someone to see. I would recommend looking at reviews of different places. There are many corporately owned spas, which...I won’t say are bad, but the employees working there may be overworked, and have a lot of pressure to sell. I would look for someone who works independently-look at their website, look at their services, if they have treatments that stand out to you, or a product line that stands out, give them a call and see if you can book a consultation. During your consultation ask more about the services they do, and their line. A good professional can speak confidently on it, and recommend a good treatment route to go in along with home care products to support what you want to achieve. Have a service done, and should they really impress you with their knowledge and their touch, I think that would be a great way to gauge where to go.

Hi Nerida! I’m an Esthetician and I work with Murad, our brand educator came to do a small clinic training last week and I asked her if I should be telling my clients to cycle off of the Murad Rapid Age Spot and Pigment Lightening Gel/ Serum with 2.0% hydroquinone in it and she told me that she doesn’t know, so my question is, since the Murad retail serum is not prescription strength, should my clients be cycled off of it every 6-8 weeks? Thanks!
@NeridaJoySkincare
@NeridaJoySkincare 6 лет назад
Yes, I would still cycle them off and for the month without it you can put them onto another brightener. After a month off they can go back onto the hydroquinone again for the 6-8 weeks and so-on. Good for you Rachelle for being on the ball and taking that extra care with your clients :))))))))))

Can you please share what is the strength of the glycolic peel you are using for this case of melasma?
@NeridaJoySkincare
@NeridaJoySkincare 5 лет назад
Fruit complex is a combination of acids including glycolic. I have 25% and 35% but the pH is lower 2.8 which makes it more like a 35% and 45% in other well known brands. The Lactic peeling formula is different...it is with resorcinol....

Hi Nerida! 👋🏼 I have a question. Why did you choose to do this particular peel on Azure, being that it has resorcinol? I don’t know her background for sure, but looking at her, she looks like she is African American even though she has a lighter skin tone, which makes her fitz type higher. Being that resorcinol is a keratolytic agent, would you be concerned about overstimulating her melanocytes and creating more pigmentation? Is this why you were more conservative with your layers, as well as your peel prep?? Could you alternatively do a vitamin A treatment to help lift the pigment?? Thank you again!
@NeridaJoySkincare
@NeridaJoySkincare 6 лет назад
Yes, her pigment was already tricky from hydroquinone use in the past which makes it challenging to begin with. Sometimes certain peels work if done slowly and this one is a lactic acid with resorcinol.....Resorcinol does not stimulate, it just aids in drying the outer layer for peeling. Buffered with 2x pre peel coats.....her skin was already prepped for 3 months prior. There are many factors you have to take into account with each client. Best i really expect with her particular skin was a 30% for now. We had two ways we could have gone...retinol or peel. Azure is a beautiful girl who wears no makeup. She doesn't like to wear foundation and started on a mineral sunblock spf 50. She since found out the brush applicator of her spf was not working well..... hence no to little sunblock. Soooo, that being said we have got way more serious about her sun protection now. We should have seen faster results for her if I would have known her sunblock situation wasn't happening. But, now that we have corrected it.....fingers crossed she will see more lightening..... we will see. With non virgin Melasma ....its a client by client prescription for treatment....;:)) I will keep you all posted:)
@devon.pfeifer
@devon.pfeifer 6 лет назад
She is beautiful. Lucky she doesn’t like to wear foundation so she can really be more diligent with spf. That often doesn’t happen with those who have melasma... I look forward to meeting you in June, and hopefully learning more about Rejuvi. Your videos are getting me hooked on the line, at the unfortunate expense of my wallet 😂. Thank you for your reply!

How come you put 2 layers of the pre-peel only on the darker melasma areas, when those are the areas I thought you wanted to be more aggressive with to lighten them more. Was she currently just very sensitive from prior treatments and due to it being around the eye area, you needed to protect the skin in that area more with the 2nd layer of pre-peel solution?
@NeridaJoySkincare
@NeridaJoySkincare 6 лет назад
Yes, because of sensitivity, close to eyes and skin coloring:))

Hi Nerida, is flavoniods is much effected lightening for melasma in comparison with kojic acid?
@NeridaJoySkincare
@NeridaJoySkincare 6 лет назад
Both are different in how they work on the skin. Kojic acids inhibits melasma, flavonoids lightens, feeds and strengthens the skin.....both are great and would be great to use together:)
