Swollen eyes and eye infections are very common with pet turtles. In this video, I explain what causes swollen eyes in turtles, and how you can treat it.
Why does my turtle have swollen eyes?
The 3 main causes of swollen eyes in turtles are vitamin A deficiency, eye infections, and respiratory infections.
Below are some ways you can provide treatment for you turtle.
Turtle swollen eyes caused by vitamin A deficiency:
There a couple things you should do if your turtle is suffering from a vitamin A deficiency. First, I recommend that you give them a turtle soak. Then you should try to feed them food that his high in vitamin A, such as kale or carrots. You can also feed your turtle mango, but only do it once or twice a week since mango has a lot of sugar. You can also give your turtle these vitamin eye drops: amzn.to/4cBjcgn
Turtle eye infection home remedy:
There are a couple different treatment options for a turtle eye infection. For starters, you should do a full tank clean to make sure the water is clean. You should then increase the temperature of the water and basking platform by 5 degrees fahrenheight, as it will help your turtle fight of the infection. If your turtle's eye infection doesn't improve after a couple days, you should give them these eye drops: Fluker's Repta Rinse: amzn.to/3KUjyTc
Swollen eyes cause by respiratory infection:
If your turtle has stopped eating, is gasping for air, or makes clicking sounds, there is a chance that they have a respiratory infection. If you suspect your turtle has one, you should take them to the vet as soon as you can. Your turtle will likely administer antibiotics to help fight of the infection. Unfortunately, your turtle will probably not survive a respiratory infection if you are not able to get them antibiotics.
