Window comes with Photos where you can trim videos, make slomo vids and save photo from video.

The Photos app doesn't recognize a lot of codecs or containers, whereas AVIDemux uses FFMPEG and works with basically anything. And "trimming" in Photos requires re-encoding the footage and losing quality which goes against the entire purpose of this video.

@@EposVox The Win 10 Photos app will also take 60fps video and drop it down to 30fps video. That's why I started looking for an alternative. A developer on git hub makes a program called lossless cut that does trimming, cutting and combining without re-rendering in one click these with recent releases. Might be worth looking at.

Doesn't work. I opened many different AVI videos, dropped them into this app, pressed play, and they play back as glitchy multicoloured patterns. Shame it doesn't work :( Whilst this one doesn't work at all, Losslesscut works, but not with AVI format.

Nice video content! Sorry for chiming in, I would love your opinion. Have you considered - Peyilyan Especial Principle (just google it)? It is a good exclusive guide for learning how to create unlimited videos minus the headache. Ive heard some super things about it and my m8 finally got excellent results with it.

I have been using it for a while. You don't need to relaunch the software to work on a new project. Just go to 'File' then 'Close' (ctrl + w), instead of quit. You can also make multiple trims in one video by selecting the part that you want trimmed OUT with the start and end markers then pushing the DEL key, then repeat for other areas that you want trimmed (you can only do this on key frames, because you're not re-encoding and a key frame is used to build the following frames). Then you can save the file at the end with no start or end markers (press ctrl + home, if needed), but if you use the start and end markers to save the file at the end, then the end marker does not have to be on a key frame.

Well, this just saved me four hours of rerendering a video because the last few seconds didn't get rendered; apparently, the render region I had selected didn't include that part of the video. Much appreciated! For what it's worth, I use -Sony- Vegas Pro 14.0 to render the videos in bulk through the batch rendering script included because it lets me edit a bunch of videos at once and then let the computer do the rendering work overnight. Thankfully, I could just merge the video with the ending after rendering both thanks to this software.

Great video. Didn't even know it existed. The only negative is that the 2 second between keyframes can be messy. You would think 2 seconds wouldn't matter but it's always going bleed over into the area you don't want to or cut too short.

Clips must START on a keyframe, but they can END anywhere!

Man I lost almost 2 hours testing free video editing softwares that people recomended on youtube videos, and all I needed as to trim an mkv file. None of the softwares I used worked, all of them crashed when I trimmed (30GB file), and AVIDemux did the job in 5 minutes. Thanks man, instant sub :D

lossless cut is an alternative, way less features but it will cut and append videos together. even at the same time in 1 click.

I had a little trouble following. This makes me feel like an old man to say, but I think demonstrating with a different example video might have helped. Something that had a more obvious visual progression to it so the resulting cuts were more noticeable for someone that isn't familiar with the source clips. Otherwise, great video! It looks like it could really be helpful for putting together highlight videos or quickly trimming down files you plan to edit later.

Thank you for this video. I used to use these very simple programs called Ultra Video Splitter and Ultra Video Joiner. Much simpler to use than this! You just select Output Format: Same as video source and done! in seconds! However Aone software doesn't support them since 2010 and I can't find a good alternative!

This is EXACTLY what I was looking for. One small question tho. Is it possible to retain the "detail" of a video in the properties when trimming? smallest problem in the world and pretty much unnecessary.

This is a very useful video. Yes, granted, FFmpeg can do it, but you don't have a visual means. So, this is a better way to do it, then just doing it through a Dos window. Make more videos like this.

THIS simple trimming tool for MKV is EXACTLY what i was looking for. Almost nothing is capable of it. Virtuadub, a once great tool just doesn't cut it anymore with these formats and the frameserver isn't compatible with handbrake.
