Hi, I'm Jennifer from Workroom Social, and today I'm going to help you troubleshoot your bobbin problems. So let's go ahead and look into our bobbin area. I'm just going to remove this case and get into our bobbin area. I open this up and I see here is my bobbin casing.
Sometimes when you're sewing you might have problems, and the stitches aren't coming out right, or things are getting stuck, and you don't know what's going on. I always recommend taking out the bobbin and the bobbin casing. The first thing you should always do is just re-thread it and start over.
You'll take everything out, make sure your thread is not knotted or crazy on your bobbin. You can even pull some of it and cut it so that everything is nice and smooth. Then just go ahead and put it back in. Make sure everything is looking good. You can pull this and make sure everything is smooth. You can put your bobbin back in and start anew. If you do this, and you're still having problems, it may be for a couple of reasons.
One, your bobbin casing, if you notice right now, it's locked in place. It's not falling out. Our notch here is in this groove where it holds it all together. If your bobbin casing isn't all the way in, that could be a problem that you're experiencing. Another problem is you might be threading the bobbin in the casing incorrectly. I always like to just think of everything logically. What makes sense? Our groove and our bobbin case is going to the left, and our thread is coming out to the left, everything is going to the left. So, when we put our bobbin in our case, our thread should also be going to the left. If you put your bobbin in going to the right so that the thread is going the other way, like this, then things are not able to move as easily. That could be something that could be something that's causing your bobbin problems. So, we'll just clip that.
After you do these things and you get everything set back up, if you're still having problems, one last thing that you can try is to get out a brush. You should've gotten a little lint brush that came with your sewing machine, or you can buy a little photography brush and just kind of get in the bobbin casing and dust out all the lint. You can even see I have some lint in here. But never use the spray can air because that will just push all the lint further in. Getting that lint out that may be stuck in the back will also help with any of your bobbin problems. So that's just a quick way to shoot your bobbin issues.

DT You are correct. The video shows a class 66 bobbin and it should be a class 15. The bobbin should spin clockwise when the thread is pulled. I don't wish to invalidate the information in the video but would like to make this correction to avoid confusion and frustration for someone. I am a certified repairman that has been in this business for almost 30 years. Good luck!

I had issues intermittenly with same types of problems with the locking and lots of loose thread on the bottom of the fabric, but then realized i had 2 different types of bobbins, i changed from the flat top bobbin to the rounded top bobbin, and bingo! My stitch was perfect again. Make sure you are using correct bobbin!!

My bobbin has been sticking and jamming for the entire time I’ve been sewing (two weeks!) I was trying really hard not to buck the whole sewing idea altogether! You’re a literal sanity saver!

This is so interesting!!! Videos related to my sewing machine online and the handbook i have for it says the bobbin thread should be going in the opposite direction, which seemed to be causing my problem. not sure why this an issue but i followed your directions and it worked!

It was a bit hard to see with the black thread you used but the explanation helped a lot. No one taught me about the directions when threading a bobbin so this helped me a lot.

Thank you! I've read this instruction manual about 20 times trying to figure out what I was doing wrong. I've never sewed on a machine before... I had taken the ENTIRE assembly out and couldn't figure out which way things were supposed to go back in. I had the bobbin casing turned the wrong way. The little finger bit was pointing down instead of up. >.< Should have looked on RU-vid sooner!

Bobbins positions depend on the models you use. For me, I have a Singer 2259, the bobbin, according to the manual, is supposed to be put clockwish (left) other than counter-clockwish (right) like that in your video.

Jennifer (video owner) -- you probably should re-film this and update the part about the bobbin thread direction. I'm afraid your advice is INCORRECT for some machines, e.g. some Singer models, including mine. Else, a nice video.

Thank you. We went through the steps you suggested and were still having problems with getting the bobbin to function. Then I did as you said not to and used canned air. Lint and fluff flew out and now the bobbin winds again. Back to sewing...

I have a singer confidence quilter 7469. When winding my bobbin been have a problem off and on seem to one that I can't get to work now at all the machine will start the bobbin winder and them stop and start flash lights. At first I would turn the machine of and try again after 3 or 4 times it would keep working and I would do about 4 /5 bobbin. but tonight it just keep doing the same thing. It seems to have something to do with the bobbin shaft but don't know how to get into it. I use to re thread it but that never seems to work so I would shut it off then not hold the thread though the top and as tight or that didn't seem to do anything either and now after many time of trying it again it is not working? Any ideals?

Hi Jennifer my name is Csaba and I have a problem with this pfuff 6230 sewing machine. Recently when I'm filling up the bobbin my wheel does not disengaged. So during the time when I'm putting thread on the bobbin than the sewing machine itself stays also in motion and I don't know what to do. I would appreciate it on any advice thank you so much

Thanks. I hope the bobbin thread going to the left will save our sanity. The instructions say make sure bobbin thread feeds clockwise. And the diagram looks like the thread is going to the right.

What about adjusting the the little screw on the bobbin casing? Isn't that supposed to adjust bobbin tension? Couldn't that also be an issue...if there is one. ;)

Yes - While holding the thread the bobbin should do a controlled fall - not get stuck ,yet not "free fall." That is how you test the tension on the bobbin.

It’s clockwise into the bobbin holder ... it’s I turned anti-clockwise when in the machine ..hence the confusion

I have a relatively new Janome 2222. It's basic equipment, but I don't sew a lot and use it for simple alterations. This requires re-learning some steps for each use. For more time than I care to admit today, I followed the directions in the owner's manual, which shows the thread in the bobbin going clockwise in the case, and there were all kinds of issues. I was ready to pitch the sewing machine out the window. This video shows the bobbin placed so that the thread is counterclockwise. Whaddya know. I tried that and the problems were solved.

On page 16 of the instruction manual, lower picture box, top diagram, it shows the bobbin being wound clockwise. This will not work. The thread will bind up and won't feed. I went crazy trying to figure this out. Finally, logic set in and dictated that the thread should come off the bobbin the same direction as it was feeding.
