How to Troubleshoot Your La-Z-Boy Power Footrest | Resetting the Safety Mechanism

If your La-Z-Boy Power Footrest doesn't retract all the way, you may have triggered the safety mechanism. This mechanism is set in place to prevent you from breaking anything in the undercarriage. Follow this short tutorial to learn how to reset your footrest.

Thanks for this info. Our dog was sleeping under the footrest and that caused the problem. I figured it tripped a safety device but had no idea how to fix it until I followed your video. All is well now.

Thank you! Thank you! My dog was partially under the footrest and then the footrest wouldn't close completely. It's weird because you can hear the mechanism completely close just the footrest doesn't follow-as you said safety feature..2 sec fix!! Really appreciate it.

@@beccanewell6934 the plastic clips can be put back in place on the inside of the mechanism. You put the thinner U shaped end over the opposite end of the "hook" shaped mechanism that is free to ride up and down. you then lift up the hook and put the thicker part of the plastic piece in the hook and push it back down into place. easy to show....hard to describe

We have a La-Z-Boy power recliner with a hand-held control that is stuck in the full recline position. You can still move the back of the chair forward and back, but the foot will not budge. Cannot get it down with the control and I don't think it is off track.

This is the exact problem I'm having with my older LazyBoy power recliner/footrest. I followed these instructions but could not get a "click" by pushing down on it. In fact, I pushed hard enough that the whole couch was ready to tilt forward, so this is not the resolve I need. Any other suggestions, please? Thank you.

Thanks for the video my lazyboys control is all lit but the functions do not. Someone sT on leg rest while it was extended. I managed to get the chair in the upright position but no other option recline heat massage or lift activate. The power supply is lit and as I said controller lit just no functioning

I did as your video instructed, and it did resolve the issue. If I physically lift and pull up the footrest and then push the button, it will recline. How do I resolve that? Any ideas? Thank you for your help.

The motor does work just like sort of like a C clamp that is attached to the bar looks like it may have been welded to the bar is off motor works fine

A family member didn’t connect the power supply to my 3 sofa recliner and manually extended. I just connected the power supply to my recliner. Now, it won’t close or open the leg rest. It does make the sound but it isn’t doing anything. Did my family member break a part when he manually open the leg rest?

I have an issue where my recliner doesn’t go up all the way and it’ll make a full buzzing sound. It’ll retract with no issue but trying to push it out will make the missing sounds. Any suggestions?

Peggy O'Connor, I have the same problem. There was a slipper under the leg rest (unbeknownst to me) and I heard the mechanism pop when I lowered the leg rest. When I put the leg rest up again to see what happened, the clip was on the floor....HELP please Furniture Academy!!!

Legrest does not go up when sitting in it, however it works fine when no one sitting in it? Other functions work.

mine is just partial , it will retract so far then get not retract all the way, it's in the down position just not locked fully back, it will raise also.

All of a sudden the footrest and the recliner motors do nothing when we press the buttons on the controller that are supposed to make them move (in either direction), but the lumbar and head rest adjustments work perfectly? Is this an indication that the controller has gone bad?

My exact problem as well, but when I tried to "reset" a big plastic part under the seat broke and the leg rest is still unlatched. Will call the store on Monday.

My lazy boy sectional recliner does not retract it and it has to be pushed back but is still floppy. Using the technique has worked in the past but not this time. Comparing to a working one on the sofa things look identical so not sure what the problem is. Not the motor. The mechanism does not bring the foot rest to resting position

The motor is off of the bar underneath the chair that controls the foot rest looks like it was welded on their how would I repair that??

Your video didn't solve my problem. Button for recline works, but foot rest button doesn't, It works periodically, but sometimes it stays in the up position with no way to put it down. There was not an obstruction. Help!

I have a greyson matching set. The recliner is stuck in the up position. The head rest still moves but not the foot rest. I attempted this fix, and maybe I didn't push hard enough but nothing clicked and this specific seat has hardly ever been opened or sat it and it's stuck full open and laid back. Help!

I have a la-z-boy big man love seat and now I am having problems with one side of it. I sit in the love seat and use the switch to recline. It will extend almost all the way and it stops. When I try to extend it there is no response. If I try to retract it there is no response. To fix it, I get off the love seat and push down on the lowest section of the foot rest until it bends down maybe 45 degrees. Then the switch works. Please help.

I have an electric lazy boy recliner with remote, everything works except the foot rest will not recline outwards, it does nothing. Grabbing the footrest, and trying to extend it out manually has no effect either, it just pushes itself back shut. Any idea what might be causing this, and any kind of fix?

I know I had something under the footrest when I closed my footrest. This morning I found a part under the rest. The part has "R2" on it plus 4 clocks embossed on it. 1 clock numbered 0-3, 1 clock numbered 0-8, 1 clock numbered 0-9 & 1 clock numbered 10-16. I tried the method you demonstrated, but that did not fix the problem. Can you help?

Hi Keith. The technician i just spoke to called it a "safety snap", and told me it would take several hours at $129/hour to replace 2 that I found under my couch.

@@waynehames4637 there is a great repair piece available on Amazon the is easy to put on. You do not have to completely disassemble the chair. Take a look. I put on in about 30 min. I will put the link here. AUGSMIAR Metal Drive Toggle and Clevis Mount Fit La-Z-Boy/Lazyboy Power Recliners.Set Includes 4 Elastic Wear Bushings.Fits for La-Z-Boy Power Rocker Recliners. Couldn’t put the link on here. Just search for this metal drive toggle. It’s an easy fix.

My issue is that all of the power buttons work, except the one that controls the foot control. Using that button will not raise the foot at all. I can physically pull it up, but the springs just collapse it again. Sure do need some help. Thanks in advance.

I am actually having an issue with the coming all the way back to the closed position. I have to either pull it forward and then it gos into place, or push the top from the back to the front for it to go into its spot.

@@BigGrizz90 I just confirmed with our repair specialist that this will also work for manual recliners as long as the mechanism isn't broken. Slamming the legrest down will re-engage the safety clip. As for your other issue, have you tried to anchor the recliner by placing something heavy behind the wooden base or placing the recliner against a wall?

Please help me. I have a $2500.00 lazyboy lift chair. It looks like brand new but the foot rest broke. There is wood under it and it cracked badly and I cant find anyone to repair it for me.
