Great quality video, always was curious how you can do videos underwater. Never been scuba diving but great topic and if I ever go I will definitely hit you up.

Thanks Dan! I actually have a whole series on GoPro stuff and have been editing videos on basic camera settings (ISO, shutter speed, etc) to upload over the next couple of weeks! I hope you can try scuba diving some day! It’s so much fun!

Looking into scuba and planning on either one of these DSD or full courses but have a question -- I basically need glasses to see anything beyond 1 foot in front of me, I know I can (and need to) buy a prescription mask if I do the full course, but for DSD how critical is it that I'm able to see things like hand signals clearly if I am just in a pool and they are providing all the gear?

Do you wear contacts? You can wear them while diving! Hand signals are pretty important. Just the pool is technically a little better, but I’d talk to the shop first to let them know. If you can, contacts are totally okay and the best option in my honest opinion. If that’s not an option for you, chat with the shop about just trying in the pool and seeing how that goes before worrying about prescription inserts or “stick ons”

@@CircleHScuba never been able to wear contacts as they bug my eyes too much so I wouldn't want to try them with scuba. I guess I'll have to talk to the shop when I'm ready and see what they have/say. I know if I do go for my cert I'll definitely buy a prescription mask though.

Not enough people really go into talking to your local dive center. Nothing wrong with asking questions and finding the instructor that gels with you! I didn’t know you were certified in Texas! Let me take a guess. Windy point at lake Travis

@CircleHScuba Год назад
Good to see you in the comments again! Your LDS is so important imo, I’m glad you found that useful too! Windy Point was indeed where I did my OW, AOW, and Rescue! I’m out in North Carolina now and did my DM and instructor out here. It’s so crazy how low the water levels are in Lake Travis right now! Spring lake was another fav of mine once I got their certification.

@@CircleHScuba San Marcos was my second guess. What’s the diving in North Carolina like? Texas yields tons of trees at depth generally. Really tests your ability to remain calm and comfortable with those bumps and weird hang ups. Give me a shout if you find yourself traveling through again! I’ll do the same and see if your open in NC

Haha yeah the diving in Texas definitely is “good training” as I’d tell people. I did my S&R specialty in 0 viz due to a silt out from an OW class. It was “fun” 🤣 NC coastal diving is amazing. There are so many wrecks off the coast, and it’s known as the “graveyard of the Atlantic.” Really cool stuff, but requires booking a charter to go off coast. In the Raleigh area we have Fantasy Lake Adventure Park. Basically Lake Travis in terms of training platforms and a few neat things underwater like some boats and a bus. It used to be a rock quarry and the terrain slopes away from the water so it’s actually much better visibility than Travis through a lot of the year. Right now, pollen is falling, so we have 3-5 feet of viz. Water temps are in the low 50s currently, but summer temps are fantastic. Maybe I’ll be able to set up a dive meet up event some day! I’ll definitely have to reach out when I’m in Texas next.
