see how to put the finishing touches on the golf club by professionally turning or finishing a golf ferrule. find out what a ferrule is and different ways to make them look personal and professional.
I am glad i finally found these belts. FYI, also good for providing a final polish in knife sharpening. Much better than leather honing belt. Learned this many years ago when i purchased a "sharp Machine" sharpening system and have always been afraid the one felt belt i had would fail. It still hasn't but now i have a replacement!
Jim, I just purchased a 1x42 belt sander and the universal ferrule turning arm like what you use in the video. My question is where exactly should a position the turning arm to properly and easily be able to turn ferrules? Should the back edge of the guide closest to the belt sander be even with the belt from left to right? I see where the height should be. Thanks, John
Hi Jim, as always great video, I have learned a lot from you over the past few years. Question, do you have a video on turning down aluminum iron ferrules?
Jim, Looking to buy myself a setup to finish of my own custom clubs. I have a 1"x30" belt sander and am looking for a ferrule turning arm similar to what youre working with. Is there a specific one you recommend that works well?
Typically the sander you are talking about turns at 3600 rpms which is twice as fast as the one I use and typically they are 36" verse 42". So the speed is much higher. When using the same belt you remove material much faster and need to be very cautious not to damage the ferrule
thank you kindly for the response sir i will look into the appropriate one for the job as i am getting busier with repairs in my are. Emery cloth just doesn't cut it for this guy anymore!
Hi.. great vid as usual ..can I use metal golf ferrules on graphite irons shafts.I am 63 yrs old with a 84 mph driver swing speed. So quite a slow swing speed. Thanks Regards David..
I am re-shafting my Hogan Apex Plus irons and I was wondering how to get the perfect clean look. Question: I have a small belt grinder from Harbor Freight, can I turn the belt inside out and use a polish on the belt?(I don't think I can find a felt belt in that size.) Thanks for posting these videos, thanks to you nobody at the driving range has a Hogan club-head implanted in their skull! BTW my shafts worked great when testing them!
Thanks for you videos, really enjoy your content, Jim. What about ferrule sliding? Is this a problem as far as performance? I know this is a common question, but I'd like your opinion as you seem incredibly knowledgeable. Thanks in advance! -Dan
The only time it could be a performance issue is on collared ferules on Graphite shafts. A shear point could be created. Outside of that ferrules a decorative item only
I have a quick question regarding "epoxy creep" on ferrules and hosels. I've had an issue, at times, with epoxy creeping through the joint where the ferrule meets the hosel, during the curing process. If I don't catch it early on, it's nearly impossible to remove from the ferrule and a royal pain to get off the hosel. Looking for any tips to possibly prevent this and/or epoxy removal tips.
@@McGolf Thank you for the response. I try to keep my epoxy to a safe minimum, but perhaps I could do with less still. I've scarred a couple hosels with a knife, so I'm averse to that... More time with the blue belt makes sense too.
you can still use it. if on a steel shaft its not much of an issue on graphite technically , may be but it you are nor a chopper of wood then it should still be fine
Hi, great video. I dont have a machine and if I want to turn the ferrule the hand method....what size or type of sand paper do I use? Many thanks from sweden.
I got mine from golfworks ages ago, the motor is a baldor, the belt kit can still be purchased, I cant remember where but there is another from kalamazoo with a kit on it already just not double ended. I just talked to the golfworks people about this very thing
McGolf Custom Clubs it’s called Glanz Wachs which is German for shine wax, literally. Thanks for the good info, this part of the club build is super hard to get right.
