It's so sad seeing a photo that could've been great turn into a weird bleached mess 2 seconds after I touch on the photo. My skin is black so they automatically brighten the skin tone, making it look washed out, bleached, and dried. Apple is very weird for that. It's probably a machine trained algorithm that hasn't gotten a lot of testing on *a variety of* skin tones. Sigh

It’s ridiculous that we have to go through all that just to temporarily fix that auto enhancement. I paid so much for a phone that does this. No control over my own phone. Apple needs to get it together. Thank you so much for this helpful video.

This feature so annoying!!! Thank you for your suggestions. It is absolutely ridiculous that we have to go through this just to avoid the automatic edit! Not all of us are idiots that need help editing or "improving" our photos. I am an artist and I want what I want both when I am photographing the landscape and when I photograph my work. Apple needs to do better!

Got an iPhone a few months back after not having an Apple phone for years. Got it specifically for the great camera. I noticed this effect happening almost immediately and thought it was just something I needed to switch off. When it kept happening, making my pics look really bad, I investigated and could not believe it couldn’t be turned off! Insane that this company would ship out phones with this feature! Is it a ploy to make you buy a third party camera app? What is also shocking is NOBODY it seems is talking about this issue, apart from this video. How can nobody have noticed this? EDIT: I now use the Halide third-part camera app, it still does the same bleach thing to your pic but you can revert it back to normal by clicking one button, which is what Apple should allow you to do.

One thing i have figured out (which is very sad that you actually have to figure it out) is that when you take the picture there is about a second where the picture is in its “normal” state. If you are fast enough you can screenshot this picture and then boom. You have the picture without it being absolutely bleached.

The last one is the only one that worked for me. It’s such a stupid feature. They should allow us to turn it off. Thanks for sharing solutions.

I’ve been looking everywhere on the internet for other people having this issue, I absolutely couldn’t find anyone experiencing it but me. Thankfully I found this video and it really helped!!

it’s a horrible feature and we should have the option to toggle it off. i would like to suggest 2 more solutions : 1) take the photo while filming a video (4k 60fps for the best quality) 2) take the photo using a third party app. i like to use lightroom and it’s great and easy to control ! i love to take pictures of the moon so either option is great because otherwise it’s impossible for the photo camera to focus on it. and on the rare occasion it does manage to focus, it ends up ruining the picture thanks to this feature.

you could also screenshot the photo before the filter is applied 😅 i really wish apple had an option to turn off this feature. it makes the photos look so weird

i don’t mind it when i use the iphone camera but i can’t even take a good instagram story anymore… i want my slightly dark and grainy pic back😭 (none of this tips worked for me so i guess im stuck)

I also noticed the over exposure on my photos immediately after taking it and nobody seemed to believe me they thought I was crazy for pointing it out 😢 I really do not like over exposed photos

What works for me is shooting in portrait mode - 1x and 2x. Basically everything, landscape, city, indoors, people (f-slider to 14 in closeupshots if you like less bokeh. For distanceshots there is no bokeh anyways). There seems to be much less prozessing going on in portrait vs normal foto mode. Pictures are way better, less oversharpening, less overexposure. Edges are smoother too. Especially visible in low light and 2x zoom. Maybe a little more grain in low light, but "good" grain, fine and evenly spread. I would even suggest to turn on hdr in the camera app (auto hdr in the settings off). It tones down highlights a bit, and enhances dynamic range. and the hdr in portrait mode is somewhat different to the one in foto mode - a lot less aggressive. Iphone 12 pro. Don't know if it works for 13 and 14. Shooting pro raw and then move any edit-slider and save also works. But what a fiddle and files very large. Albeit very nice and clean pictures there is a slight loss of detail if you zoom in at max.

This is goes to show that tech can be bias at times. Especially when it comes to darker complexions. I really hope they create a fix for this soon. Be sure to give apple feedback everyone!

I FIXED IT. So what you need to do is instead of clicking the white photo button, swipe it to the left. When you do this is takes the video on burst and the enhanced photo feature thing won’t be applied

I bought Iphone 14 two days ago,and in ios 16 it does the opposite…it roughens the pictures and oversharpens it..i tried the tips and somewhat worked😅thank you

I found a way to fix this problem which changed my life, u can drag right while taking a photo and it will start making a video and then u will have another option on bottom right of your screen to tap on it and take pictures separately while a video is being recorded, it literally captures the original picture and no shitty enhancement is applied

Just got the iPhone 13 and I noticed this INSTANTLY considering I take a lot of pictures being a creator, i was baffled, I thought it was something you could turn off but from the looks of it it’s permanent, which is utterly insane considering I got the thing solely for the videos pictures etc, and being a black person makes the pictures look even more weird, guess it’s something we’ll have to work around until apple fixes this trash.

settings>camera> use volume up for burst> switch on. when you take photos with the burst it doesn't apply the filter 😊

The same thing is happening to me, I'm about to sell my iPhone 13 because the photos are just horrible, the auto enhance ruins the final image and the worst of al... this can't be deactivated, everything is plasticized, yellowish and looks fake, without shadows. The other huge problem with this iPhone is the fact that the screen has that yellow tint that doesn't go away even with TrueTone disabled... pff, it's disappointing paying so much for a product this bad. I'll go back to the iPhone 7 or 8.

I recently found out that you don’t even have to pick a different live frame - if you just swap to choose a different frame in your Live photo and return to your previous key photo, the enhancement will be gone. You can just pick that photo again and it will be saved without enhancement. It sucks to have to do this every time though

This is absolutely ridiculous. Apple needs to give us control of our frkn products and not make setting things up such a pain. Then they push an update that’s essentially required for one reason or another and we have more changes to deal with. What a pain in the ass. Wish I had known this before I bought a new phone. What a mess of photos

( THIS works) Im new to iOS So I tried taking burst pictures and it does work!! U just need to click the white button while swiping left and that way it'll take a burst picture or whatever that's called, and voilà you'll have a normal picture.

The only way to actually turn it off is to shoot RAW. In your RAW editing program (Lightroom, Camera RAW,...) change the profile from Apple ProRaw to any profile of your liking and edit your image to your taste. It's a bit fo a work but worth it.

Is this annoying feature is going to be fixed in new updates? Please tell

you can turn on’ live ‘camera the and then change the key point then it will put it back to its original image gradient

The only solution that really works are the last two, with the Live Photo or the Burst photo trick. The first one, turning off HDR in the Photos settings is pointless, because that only works for the display itself to stop brightening your photos (in a weird annoying way, so definitely turn that off anayway, unless you like being blind every time you open your photo gallery lmao), but that doesn't really change anything about the photo itself, it still looks way too overprocessed.

None of these tips worked on my phone. The only thing that worked was right when I took the picture I hurried and took a screen shot of the normal photo before it applied the enhancement. I have to act quick. It takes me a lot of tries to get it so quick. Otherwise the enhancement turns my skin an ashy gray. My normal picture in natural outdoor light looks great but the auto enhancement makes it look like I’m suddenly in a dark room with dark circles under my eyes and lots of wrinkles. I don’t get it! I can’t even take a screenshot of my face on the camera or it still applies the enhancement. I have to take a photo and snap a screenshot of the photo in a split second.

Am using iPhone 14 promax I thought something was wrong with my skin. Am black and the pics don’t come out the way I want them too my skin tone is darker than I am😢😢😢 so I came here to get new settings maybe it might help

I usually just take Live Photo’s and change the main image to right before or after the main picture so it isn’t horribly bleached

It doesn’t work, I turned off the HDR but it still automatically adjusts(14pro)
