Hi Roger I was hoping you may please help me out with my question. I just subscribed and liked and love all of your videos! I want to be a plumber, but I am scared of crawl spaces and what I will find in there. I love everything else about the job though, do you have any advice for me? How often a day do plumbers have to go under crawl spaces, and if so is it hard to breathe down there?

Psych Student it's not very often that we have to go into crawl spaces but it does happen. Wear a bright light so you can see everything clearly and don't crawl into areas where you might get stuck! Does that help?

Just make sure the water is under the p trap n it won't spill in a 5gal bucket like that

Grateful Mom! In my gut I knew this was our problem which occurred last night after trying to use the disposal for sweet potato peels. Nothing we did from the sink side helped free anything in the drain. Reset button didn't pop, wrench twisted on bottom of disposal freely, water was spinning in the sink but not going down. I watched this and a few times you make it seem so easy. I had my 15 year old son watch again with me and he was game to try. I nervously geared up. We completely successfully found the ground clogged mess in the "P" trap, as you called it. My son had fun finding it and helping me fix our problem vs calling in a company I don't know and who knows how much it would have cost. On limited funds I am so grateful for this video and hanging on to our $$.

i’m a single girl and took all the pipes apart AND got them all back together with no leaking afterwards!! sadly though, whatever it is, is down the line....filled the farm sink up then let it all out hoping the force will push it out to the street. FINGERS CROSSED!! but, thank you SO very much -i try to do anything around the house that i can and your video totally gave me the confidence 😊 it was so easy and all the tips kept everything dry and clean. This was HUGELY helpful to me, not only for the "how to" but in giving me the confidence to try it on my own. I can't thank you enough. The clog was in the P trap and I'd have never known how to comfortably get to it (let alone without making a mess!). Problem now solved!

I’ve been seriously thinking about becoming a plumber. I’ve been doing some research and came across your channel. Then all of a sudden, this single mother of two with a deceased husband and no one to call, had her kitchen sink and dishwasher both stop draining. So to your channel I went. your video helped me. You just saved me from calling a plumber. Our kitchen sink got clogged, and I wasn't going to call a plumber on a Saturday evening. I watched this video and learned that the clog wasn't necessarily a complicated thing. I checked out the pipes, followed your instructions, and guessed exactly where the clog was base on what leaked when the the connectors were loosened a bit. Roger Wakefield, you are my hero! We had a kitchen sink clog last night (whole bunch of pasta through the garbage disposal, OOPS - lesson learned), and called Roto Rooter after multiple Draino attempts failed. The guy came in, took one look at the sink, did not check any pipes and quoted us $400 to snake the drain. NO WAY! I knew there was help on RU-vid, and there you were. The water in my kitchen sink suddenly stayed up, did not go into the drain. Within minutes, I googled and searched in RU-vid on how to remove drain blockage. Your video comes on top. Very helpful but my sink backs up on both sides when water is ran or dishwasher is ran, pretty sure its a grease problem somewhere into the wall piping. Was hoping the video would cover the best way to snake out and explain exactly what I'm snaking into most commonly so I can find out where this dang stoppage is. The sink will drain very slowly over the course of a few hours but fills right back up after water runs for a minute or so. Any thoughts sir??

Thank you for the free lesson. I had a garbage disposal fail and one of my friends put a lot of chopped broccoli down the drain. It would have made it but the downward pipe went into a straight T with a clean out on one end. With out the 45 angle to predispose the water to the correct path it would clog there a lot. I've also used Hot Shot acid drain cleaner as well further down the line. A big lesson for most homeowners if they don't already know is to follow the disposal with lots of hot water to ensure it gets to the main line.

Thanks for the help, my mum said she had a blocked drain so I did as you said an took my time unlocking the pipes and pulled them off...low and behold it was clogged with food, straws and ice lolly sticks😂😂, it’s unblocked and working like a dream now

Hi! I successfully removed the ptrap and found a straw. My sink is stopped up but the pvc pipes after the ptrap are not held together with nuts, they are just attached together. Do I force them to separate or should I just call someone?

I'm in a condo, both sides of my kitchen sink are clogged, and my washing machine drain pipe 6' around the corner. Don't have access to sewer access outside and the p-trap under the sink is not removable (most glued together). I was able to remove part of the non-garbage disposal sink side vert pipe and tried to run a long pipe snake down it, only gets to the turn to the p-trap and then stops (maybe that flap you showed?). I'm currently waiting for some Zep Liquid Heat (said it works on standing water clog) to filter down both non-disposal side and washing machine pipe (water does move down pipe 1 inch / 8hrs~). If that all doesn't work, I'll either have to figure out how to tear out and rebuild the sink pipe-works to get at the P-trap and beyond, or I'll have to call a plumber...

My kitchen sink is a mfer I tried every type of plunger there is and a snake but the snake didn't reach down far enough. Im tired of dealing with it. Might have to try going down the basement next and access the pipe from down there...but am trying to avoid doing that

Question: the one side my double compartment sink briefly backs up Into the otherside when emptying out half a sink full of water. Is this normal? This happens when draining the side that is directly tied into the p trap. It utilizes a cheater vent as well. No garbage disposal unit either. Thanks

Took your advice and removed piping on right side of sink and both left and right water basins subsided (thank you) but there was no obstruction in the white piping. Does that mean there may be further, deeper down the line where I may need pro's snaking device? I have no money! BTW my wash basin outside never clogs. I am not sure if the sink and wash basins are on the same line. Thanks.

That was the clearest tutorial that I have seen. You didn’t leave any details out. This was my first time doing it and I was able to go with high confidence that I am gonna get it done. I was done in 18 minutes. The stoppage was at the U shape part. Pieces of thyme and cleaning sponge caused that.

We have a clogged restroom sink right now. Usually, I would recommend Thrift, it's some amazing stuff. However, it's something you don't want to use regularly due to its potency. It can ruin your pipes then cause an even bigger problem. Unfortunately, Thrift isn't working for me right now so, I'm going to try this. Thanks Roger, I'll update if this worked for me ✌️

I have no experience in plumbing whatsoever. However this video was so easy to follow I just used my hands, a bucket and an auger. There was some stuff inside the p-trap and in the wall. Though it took minimal effort. It was so nice to see the water run through. I don't do any of this ever, but you've definitely always amused me and taught me things. I hope you keep making videos. I am not a plumber. About a year ago, I was helping a friend with a clogged bathroom sink in a century old home. The stoppage was in the wall or the horizontal run in the crawl space. The horizotnal pipe to the tee was soldered in. The tee (straight, not sanitary) and pipes were 1.5” diameter. No matter how much I tried, I could not get either end of the ¼” snake to go past the tee and go down the pipe. The snake continually hung up on the step created by the pipe in the tee despite trying several different kinks at the end of the snake. Any suggestions for next time? I did manage to blow through the clog with a garden hose, not an approach I like to do in a home.

Mr. Wakefield what do you think about cleaning pipes with vinegar and baking soda? I usually put baking soda in first on my kitchen sink then vinegar and then a pot of boiling water.

What is the best solution to clean the inside of these pvc pipes? I noticed the one that goes into the actual plumbing in the wall has gunk build up in the circular of the pvc. Also, what is best to use regularly so the pvc doesn’t smell? I removed some of the pvc and wow did it smell.

Solid video! looks like my clog must be in the sewer. It would be good to know more information about what sewer machines you think are the best option for different people. Thanks!
