Learn how to unhide columns in Excel. Hiding columns is easy. But when it comes to unhiding columns in Excel it can be a bit of a challenge. These tips will help you master hiding and unhiding both columns AND rows (jump to topics in video using links in description below).

It's worth noting that if you still can't unhide column A, it might be "frozen". Unfreeze panes and then try again.

Hi, Thanks for the solution. Just a learning that panes should be un-frozen to make this work. One can unhide and then re-freeze the panes. Learnt the hard way !! :)

It may be that the column width is very small. Maybe try going to the Home tab > Format > Column Width > and setting the width to a larger number. I hope this helps 😊

The F5 key does not work on my Excel. I believe I should have the newest version as I had that installed earlier this year when I bought my new computer. Any advice?

Hi there. You may need to press an Fn button on your keyboard in order to use your F5 key. If this doesn't work, from your Home tab please click 'Find & Select' and then select 'Go To' from there. I hope this helps :-)

Thanks for making this video, I'm here because I'm struggling with the excel file I received. The column A and column B are hidden, and I've tried to unhide these 2 columns with the steps on this video, but it is not working. any advise?

Hi Melda. If the advice in my video isn't working the file could be protected and not allowing you to unhide the columns. I would contact the person who sent you the file to check if the file is protected. I hope this helps.

The only way I could unhide column A was by copying the whole sheet to a new sheet.

That's a shame Matthew. It could be that the file is Protected. This will mean that you will be unable to unhide columns or rows.

Hi Could you help me? what if i hide B,C,D,E,F,G,H,I,J,K,L,M,N,O,P. And now i only want to unhide back F,G,H,I,J. Is that possible, if it's possible how do i do that?

Hi Rhonda. It's all in the selecting and clicking. If you make your way to around 01:23 in the video and copy how I select the entire column and where my mouse is when I right click. This should then show you the Hide option on the shortcut menu.

Hi there. I wonder if the file is Protected. If you make your way to the Review tab and check the Protect group. If you can see 'Unprotect Sheet' this may be why you can't make any changes to it.
