In this video, I show you how to unlock a push to start steering wheel. If your car has a push button to start the engine, and you want to unlock the steering wheel because it has been locked, I show you how to do exactly that. I demonstrate it on a specific vehicle, but most vehicles use a similar process, so it will likely work with your vehicle as well. Be sure to consult your owner's manual to be certain.

Engine unable to run & your battery is dead? You can still unlock the steering wheel! Just jump start your battery as you would normally jump start a dead battery. Except you're NOT jump starting the battery in order to start your engine. You just need to run electrical current through your car's system in order to enter the "accessory mode". [ Push the ignition button & KEEP YOUR FEET OFF THE PEDALS like he says in the video.] Once you enter the "accessory mode", then you can unlock the steering wheel just like in the video tutorial above. I KNOW THIS WORKS! because I did this today on a VW (push-button ignition) with a non-running engine & a dead battery. Once you unlock the steering wheel, disconnect the jumper cables & close the hood, and then you can push the car to wherever you need to push it. I HOPE THIS INFORMATION HELPS SOMEONE! : )

For those with key fob instead of actual key, do the same thing, turn the wheel slightly (don't force it like he said) while turning the ignition. Then once your wheel is back to normal, put it in park, turn off the engine, and turn it back on again

If the battery is dead... How are you gonna unlock the steering? I know you can access a button to put in N but can you also steer a dead push start button car?

That's my question also? My wife's 2016 Nissan Murano had a dead battery. We needed to push the car out of the garage to have it towed to a mechanic. I can get the car in neutral by using a small screwdriver, inserting it in a small slot by the gear shift. But, how do we unlock the steering wheel to turn it if the car battery is completely dead?

When you go off-roading and the batter dead for whatever reason (seen it), good lucky even if someone can tow you, you are still going no where So off-roaders stay away from push-start. Those engineers never thought of that.

Damm! It's one year later and ..... Who was was yelling in the comments???? Nobody of course .. Rut row!! (Scooby Doo style) Lol 😁 But seriously, someone did leave such the annoying comment that said "stop yelling." and NOBODY was "yelling" - I happened to have noticed this bcuz I read a bunch of positive, thankful & grateful comments instead of any douchy yelling comments going down .. I usually do not read any og the comments after watching a video, especially the real shitty negative type replies that absolutely make no sense or are just mean and spiteful to the channel on purpose .. But this was a different situation and I needed to read other viewers comments just to see if I could find out more info with my current vehicle situation and I couldn't believe how many ppl had to write a bunch of trash comments to this guy on here and his other videos .. My guess is bcuz his very simple or extremely easy instructions DID NOT work out for those ppl so they just had to play the blame game on this channel instead .. Now how LAME are those ppl huh??? Well, those DUDES were really friggin LAME bcuz I read lots of positive & grateful comments left to this channel that actually "thanked him" for his easily explained tutorial - and most came from females who actually "fixed" thier own steering wheel issue bcuz of his genuine help .. So, to sum up my comment which way too long and might I add is a rare thing to do from me - Bcuz Im NOT a crazy ass YOU TUBE KAREN COMMENT NAZI" But today I really got pissed off at the idiots who left those real shitty feeble minded negative comments to this channel just bcuz they watched "the whole 4 minute" video and then they attempted to try his very clear & easy instructions on their own shitbox of a vehicle and "TISK TISK" - for some unknown reason it just didn't work on thier steering wheel and it's STILL LOCKED UP!! 😮 Hahaha!! Like it's this guy's fault it didn't work - so those ppl gotta immediately rush back to thier friggin keyboards or phones and start badmouthing this channel .. Yeah badmouthing the guy who only made this video and other similar video's like this just to help ppl fix it themselves and also to try to save them a shit ton of money too!! Bcuz everybody knows that taking your vehicle in for repairs to any general mechanic shop or to the extremely expensive dealer will cost you a arm & a leg right? So why would anybody want to say stupid bad shit like that to the Dude who's only trying to help you out & save you lots of cash??? Geeesh!!! Wth? Anywho, I understood his advice and I instantly figured out what to do with my steering wheel and I didn't even get my hands dirty ... Go figure!! 😉 I still just dont get it with these "other" negative relpies - those certain peeps should be happy as a fly on shit to be able to click click clickadie click thier CLEAN skinny lil (somewhat manly) fingers on thier phones or keyboards and be able to retrieve such awesome information instantly at your fingertips .. You know what Im saying? No calling up the dealer or a mechanic only to get the same old run around from them telling you "we cant help you over the phone, ya gotta bring it in!" So instead of insulting the guy's helpful channel who's literally giving you easy peazzy lemon squeezy advice & info on how to help "fix your own car" maybe just suck it up or if you must leave a comment - be positive and just let him know how you just COULDN'T figure it out yourself even tho his video content was correct and helpful to just about everybody else who watched it ... Then if you could - maybe leave the video a like which inturn will help support some of his future YOU TUBE endeavors ... Ppl just take ppl like this for granted and if not satisfied they just shit all over them - not cool!! So from now on if this crap applies to you, just think about it the next time your feeling frisky and want to leave someone's channel a mean, nasty & untruthful comment ... This doesn’t work for a 2014 VF Holden Calais. Tried all your suggestions and did nothing. Even disconnect the battery to reboot the computer and nothing.
