So 10 minutes to fill the disco 4 = 2400 mph of charge. I sometimes fuel the disco 3 times in a day, electric just doesn't work doing distances or towing. Im not against EV , i just don't see it as an answer to all. My other issue is them being referred to as zero emissions, yes a lot more power generation is renewable, but not all and therefore emissions.
Hello Simon, I don't no. It seems to be a right palaver. I go to the petrol pump, 5 minutes the cars full and I'm away. They should get the infrastructure right first.A stupid question maybe, but who pays for all these chargers? Are they free with the car?
I guess you need to factor in the time driving to the petrol station and back ... we are charging the cars at work so there is no distance to travel to the petrol station. The Tesla charger was around £350 but the new Zappi charger we are buying is £900 !
@@L663 what you're saying to me is you buy the car that's already over priced and you then have to pay for a charger. You said you can charge the cars at work but I think most people don't have that luxury. I'm quite happy to stick to good old petrol.
@@L663 I'd say 80% day-to-day when you're plugged in at home, go to 100% the night before a long trip. If you are trying to charge past 80% at a public DC charger and there is a queue waiting then you are an anti-social monster 😋
A wall charging point should be capable of charging all vehicles from installation. Otherwise it leaves owners stuck to one make of car. And, a threes phase charger should be capable of charging at a faster rate than that one does surely? Can you imagine d a petrol station with sewerage pumps for every make of car? There is a long way to go before owing an electric car is totally user friendly and straightforward for all. Never mind it being expensive to recharge a car. Most households have at least two cars, there aren’t enough hours in the day to enable recharging two or three cars without multiple charging points and, I hate to think how much that would cost.
Interesting video - thanks. But it does tell me never to buy an electric car! They are only any good for someone doing low milage and can charge overnight at home. For me doing long journeys across the UK and Europe it would be totally useless as charging is far far too slow to be any use at all. The perfect vehivle would be an electric vehicle that gets its power from an engine that is only there to generate electricity (and not actually power the car) - this way the MPG would be very much greater and far less pollution - in the future the enging could be Hydrogen powered, but the technology is not there yet.
What a load of rubbish, only 17 mph charging. Are we sure electric vehicles are the way forward. Imagine all the cars are now electric and all plugged in over night, the National Grid will melt down, not to mention the power cabling upgrade to the streets required. The tarmac on the roads would melt, substation exploding in the cul-de-sacs, power outages, better stock up on candles. ;-) Has anyone thought this through?
Exactly why the likes of Octopus do load sharing throughout the night encouraging people to use different times with their smart chargers for cheaper tariffs.
Simon, I hardly think the word "hack" is appropriate and it sends the wrong message altogether. All you have done is changed the available settings in the charger you have NOT hacked it. It is most annoying in todays society how the use and meaning of words is changing almost daily. Soon we won't know what people or saying or understanding. Crickey it is already hard enough to understand what in particular the younger generation are often trying to say!!!!
Fair point - it is very much a "hidden feature" and one that Tesla do not seem to want you to use !. The real question is should all charger by law be set to charge any electric car....
@@L663 but a home charger should be provided with a key (mechanical or via a PIN) so that only authorised cars can use it - otherwise anyone can drive up to your charger and charge their car whie you are out.
