I wanted to come back and let you guy's know the diesl fuel work's. I tried transmission fluid and acetone for two weeks didn't budge. I put the diesel fuel and 6 of my cylinders freed up just today I got impatient and tried Apple Cider vinegar 3/4 and 1/4 water mixture checked on it and one more is freed up now my opinion the Diesel fuel work's like a champion. And the Apple Cider vinegar work's super fast . The acetone and transmission fluid I'm still not to sure and it had more time to soak. But the diesel fuel work's like a champion.. Thank you for sharing your knowledge I appreciate you God bless you.

You could have used white vinegar too, but it might not have smelled like apples when you started the engine! I figure white distilled vinegar would be a lot purer compared to cider, but whatever you have works I guess.

🟥🟥🟥🟥🟥 AFTER YOU put your cocktail of choice down the sparkplug holes for 24 hours, if its a stick shift, put in high gear and pull vehicle backwards. Reversing engine rotation means it doesn't have to try to break the buildup on top of the piston when it was originally shut off. IF ITS AN AUTOMATIC, START BY WORKING THE FLYWHEEL IN REVERSE ENGINE ROTATION It worked for me.

@@kammysutherland7320 Or if you can access the flywheel, get a long crowbar or similar, and pry the flywheel between the bellhouseing and try to move the flywheel even a little in each direction. If you can finally get 1 full revolution, you got it licked. 😛. Good luck.

@@kammysutherland7320 Another trick that worked over the years is to remove the spark plugs and pour a 50/50 mix of acetone and automatic trans fluid in the cylinders and let it sit 24 hrs. Always try to turn the engine over with the spark plugs out.

Great engine, and in a great truck. If you look closely, at the inner fenders, there are ridges stamped into the sheet metal, -was probably for strength- but works GREAT for holding sockets and screwdrivers if you ever need to actually WORK ON a Slant 6. Not known for it's power output, but a SERIOUS engine. I firmly believe that Chrysler stopped making them, because they NEVER die! steve

Steve Skouson, very true. the ribs are to increase the stiffness of the sheet steel. Also true that the Leaning Tower of Power will run forever, if the owner is not a complete idiot about basic maintenance. The same is true of the old Ford 300. I've owned both and they are about the most reliable engines ever put into a car or pickup truck. Engines that run forever aren't good for the car maker's bottom line. Why buy a new vehicle if your old one just won't die.
@steveskouson9620
@steveskouson9620 7 лет назад
While I've never had a Ford 300, i know what you're saying. I was commenting on how the Slant 6 was REAL EASY to work on, and the inner fender helped that. In the late '70s, my brother and I got a 64 Dodge truck, with the 225 Slant Six. We were able to get the idle down to 90 RPMs. And, at 300 RPM, we could stand an American nickel, on the valve cover, without falling over. The secret, dribbling some water into the carburetor. Best and easiest way to clean off carbon deposits on the combustion chambers. steve

I've owned 5 slant 6 vehicles. 4 had the 225. One had the 170. Fantastic engines. I currently have one 225 and one Ford 300. The Ford 300 was an amazing inline 6. In the 1970s, the only gasoline car/pickup engines that produced more max torque were a few big block V8s that were in excess of 400 cubic inches. Pretty impressive for something that ran a one barrel carb and log exhaust manifold. With 4 Bbl carb/intake and headers, you can make power that is on par with an HO 351 Cleveland, with negligible change in fuel mileage. My uncle had a 1990 F150 with the 300 and a 5 speed. The only reason he scrapped it out is because the body and frame rotted out from his years stationed in Illinois. I wish he'd let me know before he scrapped it, because i'd have loved to have had the 5 speed, the FI system, and the electronic controls from it, to put in my 1977 F100.

My first car was a 1969 Dodge stepside with a 225 slant 6 . Dad bought it for $400 from his company (Hughes Aircraft). It was a Guard truck then the mantaince dept used it. My dad said it sat for years. it would barely do 40 mph. We rebuilt the carb changed the oil ,plugs, wires, cap rotor,points and it ran great. I did a brake job and rear axle seals. Later it needed a water pump and hoses radiator was rebuilt. It had a torkflight trany that I changed the fluid. The first set of tire I got were recaps. They sucked. I learned a lot. Dad let me do the work . If I didnt know how to do something he would show me or explain it. Dad had been a Aircraft mechanic in WWII and really knew how to fix a engine. I drove that truck for years till somebody rear ended it. Inline 6 engines are bullet proof Dodge /Chevy/ ford , doesnt matter they all were about the same. They were not fast but you could neglect them and they would just go. I love inline 6 engines...

The venerable Slant-6 was very reliable. They even extracted some performance in some versions for the Valiant Acapulco and other sporty sedans, with a different cam and more compression, a different distributor advance curve and larger carburetor. But the very best inline six I've seen, was the American motors 282 (produced by the Mexican division VAM) which made an AMC Spirit GT which was faster than either a 351 Mustang or a 360 Super Bee! at the 7350 Ft elevation of Mexico City!.

One of greatest six popers ever made! Your use of diesel is a great alternative to using ATF in the combination chamber. 😀 and crank case. The use of coke is great misinformation. 👍 great on battery terminals. But don't think it will work inside of a motor 😕 unless you are doing a complete rebuild. Great video, thanks for posting.

I love the Diesel fuel idea and will be using it shortly on my 89 blazer. The Coca Cola idea does not sit well with me because I did an experiment back in high school back in the 70's with a nail and Coke and the nail rusted up very fast while submerged in the Coke. Coke will attack the stuck parts vigorously but I think your Diesel fuel idea over a 5 day period would be much more forgiving on the engine. Thanks again and I'll be using your idea shortly.

Diesel and transmission fluid usually works great if not stuck to hard ,but if stuck very hard with not too much rust in the cylinders pure ammonia will cut the crap loose but if it doesn't work after a couple days at most use your air hose and get it out of your cylinders and flood them again with diesel because ammonia will cause even more corrosion if left in too long,I have used it myself several times

Can you turn the crankshaft manually without removing spark plugs? I turned a little bit to see if the engine was not locked (due to some problems), it moved. I turned it like ~30 degree clockwise, then did approximately same turn backward. Now I think if it didn't cause any damage on timing. Thank you for the film.

Awesome enjoyed your video nothing wrong with your method with diesel it worked so it proves its a great idea i did the same on one old motor i had and got the same result i think it is awesome that you got it running i have used hot automatic transmission fluid and poured it into cylinders to free them up and i have really good success with that the heat helps to expand metal and penetrate quicker.Personally coca cola does not feel right because of the high sugar content i dont want any sugar in my motors thats how you ruin an engine put some sugar down the fuel tank.Phosphoric acid is in cola and it does a really good job at eating rust you can buy this from a panel and paint store as a specific chemical without using the sugar so i have used that as well on specific jobs in one case the valves on a flat head motor had completely rust welded to the head using that i was able to free them up using the phosphoric acid i made a wall around each valve using plasticene and checked it every couple of days and replaced it by the end of the week had the engine turning over.Its amazing what you can unseize i had another engine that had been sitting out side for years water was literally sitting in the bores i stripped it down and took the crank shaft out then used a piece of round 5mm flat steel about the same size as the bore and used a piece of pipe and smacked it with a sled hammer and i got all the pistons out the trick there is to move the impact to the outside of the piston as that is where the metal is thickest if you can do that you can unseize any engine in my view you might have to rebuild but its not impossible.I didnt break any pistons in the process either That method would be the last resort but it will work if everything else has failed

successfully unfrozen engine, I suspect high oil consumption as the cylinders are probably pitted where the piston rings sat for this longtime. Usually, when there rust in a cylinder, the remaining life of the engine is greatly shortened as the rust forms an abrasive compound that is sweeped by the piston.

@fortj3
@fortj3 7 лет назад
Andrew Calp yes. Kerosene is more highly refined than diesel fuel. Diesel fuel nastier than kerosene. One of the car magazines tested different penetrating oils a few years back. None of the commercially available products worked as well as a 50/50 mix of kerosene and Dexron ATF. Some people use a mix of acetone and ATF, but I wouldn't. Acetone is a strong solvent and not an oil like kerosene, diesel, or ATF. It's also hell on many plastics and paints. Kerosene/ATF works better and has been proven to work better, but some people like to cling to the acetone/ATF mix.

Run a pint of ATF in the engine for one month or till the oil goes dark or black oil is supposed to clean and lube the parts right ATF is a detergent it`ll get into the lifter pistons rockers rist pins all the places where the old oil has caked on and loosen it ATF gets really hot then do a oil change you`ll notice the next oil change will take a long time to darken saving you money , Or add 1pint of DIESEL to the engine oil JUST before the oil change run the engine from cold to just hot shut off and change oil The crap that comes out is incredible the engine flush products is diesel but they market it as Blah blah dumb dumb cleaner smell injector cleanor Diesel ...I`ve done this for many years my last truck I bought it at 300.000 KM and would`nt do 40 kph. it done 500.000 before I loaned it to a kid and the trans went .

+vcval .010 on the intake, .020 on the exhaust, and it would be quiet as a mouse. Had one almost 20 years ago. Very simple and durable engine.

Coca cola is the best for freeing up a seized engine.

Because of the phosphoric acid? Might as well just use phosphoric acid. Coca cola has sugar in it which fucks engines up. Better use vinegar.

I'm only talking about an engine you need to get apart to rebuild. Any engine once seized should be rebuilt unless it's just an old farm truck or tractor etc...

Coca cola works at removing rust. But most seized engines are stuck with tar not rust. If they are seized due to rust you need new rings and sleeves

It is POSSIBLE to un-freeze an engine BUT it will never run well. This is just a stunt.
