How to Update Maps on Your Kia 

Thanks for the info. Just ran a software update on the 2019 K900 for the first time (for free!!!!). The USB drive (not SD card) doesn't appear to have a memory limit, as I used a 256GB USB stick. The update took about an hour, but I was happy to see a welcome screen that looks similar to that on the 2020 Genesis GV70. The update even included Sounds of Nature, which has the same sounds on the Genesis. The navigation map seems to be more intuitive, at least for local roads, but I still need to drive on the interstate to see how it has changed.

Your video is well done and easy to follow with the right amount on the speed your talking. I have a 2019 Touring Kia EV Niro and the screen is so much better after the update. My wife's sister has a 2020 Kia EV Niro and it's 1 model down and does not have a Navigation on her screen. Could you please advise, should it be updated for the new software - if so what happens?? We live in Vancouver BC

Thank you for this video. I have a Kia Sportage 2022, and I was able to change the language from Korean to English. I attempted to download the update from the official website using flash memory but I received a notice that it was not supported. whereas the map and the navigation still display a map of Korea. Is there a way to change the map to show the city where I live?

Sorry for the dumb question but I came on this video because I'm having trouble with my brand new EV6 (three weeks old). The maps are out of date yet I've already uploaded the latest 'software version' as described in the video. Some other EV6 owners in my country (NZ) clearly have a more recent map version than mine. So my question is: Is updating the 'software version' (you refer to it as updates to the 'head' - whatever that is) also meant to update the 'map version'? On the car screen it shows 'software version' and 'map version' as two separate things.

Doing my first update. Hopefully this solves the issue I constantly have with the "no network response". I don't like the android feature.

So thank goodness I kept the long disused windows machine in my attic! I've been using Linux for years but hey it's a trip down memory lane and unbelievably slow! One day Kia might realise that Linux and Chromebooks etc are out there!

Thanks for this very informative video. I have one question....can I drive the car whilst the update is being carried out? Purely because I don't want to just leave the car burning fuel for up to an hour whilst it updates. Not environmentally friendly for a start & simply wasteful. I appreciate that the battery mustn't discharge which could compromise the update process, but if I can drive the car whilst it's doing it I can combine the task with a trip somewhere! I have a 2014 Kia Sportage and the dealer here in Greece is telling me that it is not possible to update the satnav and I must pay for a complete new head unit at a cost of over 1000 euros. The reason the dealer gives is that the car was originally registered in France. I really don't believe that a good company like Kia would do this, nor do I believe that the country of original registration should cause such a problem. I'm happy to pay a reasonable sum for someone to do the update, but 1000 euros is exhorbitant. Can someone from Kia clarify this issue for me, please.

At 3:08, you say that you have NO CHOICE but to download the update software to your computer hard drive. Not so! The download location they first show is all that can be found at that moment with an instant search of your computer. The choice looks like you can slide it down to choose another destination / device but there aren't any! Solution: Plug a USB thumb drive or SD card into your computer at or prior to this step, and the choice WILL BE THERE! Mine appeared as "F" drive option. Then they give you some words of advice about if you download to your hard drive, you'll have to transfer to a USB or SD card to take to your car for the update. I think they say 32GB minimum. I used a 256GB thumb drive and I'm hoping that doesn't scare my Kia Soul into rejection! The software download (GPS map) for a 2020 Kia Soul is 39GB, so a 32GB thumb drive would NOT have been enough! Many files. None of which you can open to take a look on your computer, unless you are a real nerd!

* my 2023 Kia sportage hybrid requires 64 or greater Thumb drive. I used a 64Gb to be safe. Took forever to download land upload.

I don't know if its their server, or my poor internet source (stupid old DSL, on my telephone line! There is no cable internet available in my neighborhood!), but... this simple download of update software / data took over SEVEN HOURS! 39GB. At about 1MB per second. Also, at about 6:10, you mention "if your vehicle is equipped with 'start/stop function' you'll need to disable that." Yeah, because my Kia Soul automatically shuts down the engine at stop lights (brake pedal held down) and restarts when the brake pedal is released. it also shuts the engine down if you are in Park gear and don't shift and drive away in about 2 minutes! I need my engine running at idle for about 30 minutes to one hour for this update (so battery doesn't go dead). HOW DO I Disable that function??? You could give me a clue where to find that in the vehicle settings! I could NOT find a way to disable that function! Had to DRIVE my Kia Soul for over one hour to get this GPS map update to update!
