Also - in the PlayStation store description for CP77 there’s no language mentioning an upgrade, while in other games like Horizon FW the description does mention upgrade potential. So…

@@saminramonaits because the region of your disc doesn't sink your account region make a new account with the same region as your disc like if your disc is region 1 then you can't upgrade it in a UK account yeah so make a new account with new region

Managed to fix it!! delete the ps4 version and reinstall by inserting the data disc. This should allow the free upgrade to PS5. Good luck people

Yes, this is what I did also. Fresh install the PS5 version using the PS4 data disc NOT the play disc, then it downloaded like 70+GB.

So, I DON"T need to wait for the discs to do their downloading first, I just put one of the discs in and immediately click the 'Upgrade to PS5' option. Good to know, saves me time.

No need to watch this video. Insert Ps4 Data Disc.. then cancel and delete. Go to game library, find Cyberpunk. It will say "view product" then it will say Ps5 upgrade download. Boom... 20 seconds tops

Thanks man, this video really helped but I would like to point out if anyone lives in a country that isn’t in the PS system for example Albania or North Macedonia and many more in order to upgrade these games for free you will have to look at the game case and check an address or just the country for example when I upgrade FIFA 21 it was an addres in Geneva, Swizterland and so I created a Swiss account and upgraded it that way becaus it is the only way, in this case with Cyberpunk 2077 it only said Made in Austria so I created an Austrian account and I upgraded it for free. I really hope this helps someone because I was stuck playing FIFA 21 PS4 version on PS5 for months before I figured out this “trick”

I think the update is region gated. I'm in Europe, and I do have the disc version of CP2077, but I keep getting the purchase option, no free upgrade. I'm going to wait until tomorrow and see if that sorts it out. So damned annoying!!!

I had that too. I went to my game library (after I installed the PS4 version, not sure if that's required though), and there I could change the version. It went on to install the 55Gb PS5 version. Note: in order to make room on my HDD I deleted the PS4 version of Cyberpunk. That didn't seem to be a problem.

Guys i found the solution. You have to delete the game if you have installed the ps4 version. Restart your PS. Insert the PLAY disc and NOT the DATA disc. Then you will be able to upgrade the game to the ps5 version for free.

As of March 11, 2022 I have confirmed because I also installed the Data Disc on my PS5 first and the upgrade wasn't available. Basically, delete the PS4 Data Disc version and use the Play Disc to install. Then the PS5 upgrade option will show up and just follow the prompts. All good and thx.

So I had the ps4 version of the game on my ps5 and upgraded it yesterday. When I fired it up it had my previous saves but I had to redistribute my skill points. Also looks like I don't have any of the trophies I got, do I still need to do a saved data upload?

Hope it is still relevant. Late boomer to PS5 and going to get PS4 disc upgradable to PS5. SO great video for information. I have been reading and watching about this game and it has hyped me so much. Can you tell me how does phantom liberty expansion work in this whole scenario. Will i have to download it separately or purchase it again on top of PS4 disc( upgradeable to PS5). How should i ideally follow the game ? - Play entire base game first and then worry about expansion pack OR is it something great to have with base game ? Hope i am making sense ?

For anyone struggling; The game is Region 2 but my account is region 1 (USA), I tried with no avail to find the free upgrade button. I switched to my wife’s account which is region 2(Turkey) and it worked! I used the DATA DISC.

Mine says “insert ps4 disc” answer the desk and I just continually tells me to insert the desk. I’m able to play the PS4 version fine cannot access the PS five version at all I updated my licenses didn’t help.

I started by inserting the Data disc and copying. Once that was done I put in the Play disc and did the upgrade. Once that was done I deleted the PS4 version, thinking it would be fine just to play the PS5 version. If I take the Play disc out and put it back in...the PS4 version picture pops up and has Copy paused...tells me to insert the Data disc to start the copy and download. Confusing right...???

Question, if I install the ps5 version, can I use data disc (I know the ps4 will also install) to play my ps5 version and give away the game disc to a friend so we can both play or can you only play the ps5 version with only the game disc (disc2) Remember, the game comes with 2 discs but you don’t mention what disc you need to keep inside your ps5 to be able to play it. With that said, it’s possible that after installing the ps5 version with disc 2, I give away disc 2 and play the ps5 version using disc 1 (even if the ps4 does install)

If you bought the digital on PS4 and want to upgrade to PS5 you must install PS4 version first on PS5. Then you can upgrade to PS5 for free.

So turns I learned the hard way and I uninstalled my cyberpunk game and wanted to redo a load it and see if that’ll fix some game breaking bugs I didn’t have before and it asked me for the data disk right away so yeah don’t ever lose the data disk or you have no game anymore…sucks since I don’t have mine on hand and is actually at another house…stupid since I own the game and have the game disk but no data disk breaks the game…

If you use the data disc to gain access to the free ps5 version, the ps4 is try to install everytime the disc reader reads what disc is in there on boot up or insertion. The game disc just leaves the copying/installation of the ps4 version paused. What a joke! I couldn’t make this shit up

@@Gotiansgames UPDATE. I only inserted the ps4 play disc into the ps5 and didnt bother putting the data disc in at all and the update to ps5 came up. Pressed that and it worked.

So I bought the game today and to have access to the ps5 upgrade, I just need to insert play disc? Even if it's the 1st time I put the game on ps5? Don't need to put data disc?
