Just to confirm what you're asking, PS5 software as in the OS and the updates and all that? and on the m.2 ssd, just games? yes, you can still play games even if those two pieces of software are on different drives.

Does it matter if I choose a Read Speed of 7,300MBs instead of a Read Speed of 7,000MBs for the 2TB official licenced 2TB WD_Black SSD Memory stick? As I know, Sony says it has to be specific with what goes in the PS5 for memory.

So I’ve looked at like 10 videos or more and from what I see and hear you can’t change out the main console storage? Only the M.2 SSD? I wanna swap out the main storage in my PS5 since it’s a weak 500gb and I wanna upgrade that main storage with a 2TB ssd and I already have a 2TB M.2 SSD installed but it got full pretty quick and I don’t have the bread to waste on another M.2 SSD again and I don’t wanna be unscrewing my ps5 stand and take the thing apart everytime to swap out the M.2 lol so upgrading the main 500gb console storage is something I have to do…anyone know if we can swap that out?

Can you install modern games onto the drive or what?? Because some external storage devices wont allow you to save modern games onto them. Only pre 2016/17 or below games …

No, you format the card so unless you have something on the card, you don't lose anything. I transfered all games into the card and everything was transferred seemlessly

Probably a dumb question, I’m ignorant when it comes to this because I havnt done it before. Would I have to move everything from my PS5 to that new drive or does that drive work as an expansion to the storage my ps already has ? I noticed when you removed that metal plate that it was empty so I wasn’t sure if you removed whatever was in there off camera or PS did that intentionally for those who want more storage. I’ve seen other videos and they always have something in there so I wasn’t sure if I have to remove and move everything from that ssd to the new one.

I’ve had a ps5 for a few years and I have a 4TB extended hard drive but I’m tired of spending hours upon hours transferring games to the extended drive. I was thinking about getting an upgraded internal hard drive for the PS5 but I have games installed on the console. Is there a way for me to transfer my current console memory to an upgraded console drive without taking the risk of losing games and any memory that’s tied to the console?
