Plus the fact they had to engineer these locks in place. Otherwise we COULD play games from the external drive. But they’d rather find a way to monetize the value.

Thank you, I think I get how to use the games through my game drive, I've just got a WD_black game drive and I was confused why I had to copy them back to the console because I thought I was running out of storage again 😅

It's better to move the games rather than copying because you're creating two copies of the same game (and DLC). One in the internal HDD and the other one in the external HDD which will just eat up your storage even faster. Copying and moving takes about the same amount of time so moving will always be better than copying. I guess the downside is not being able to do anything on the PS5 until the data is done moving. If you copy the game back to the internal PS5 storage, you will have to re-download all DLC again and it's almost as if the game is being downloaded again to your console rather than just copying the data. Sony sure loves making everything complicated with the PS5.

Another issue with the external hardrive that Sony messed up in recent system updates is that the console no longer recognizes the external hardrive as soon as you turn on the console. I'm someone who always leaves the external hardrive plugged in to my PS5 and before the updates my PS4 games were ready to go and ready to play. Now, I need to wait a few minutes before I can play them as the console is reading the external hardrive and I get the USB icon in the top middle screen.

@@techbymidas so basically if your ps5 games is stored on a hard drive you can only play them off the extended storage correct because the hd drive can not saved ps5 games it can only hold ps4 games.

Thanks for the guide! I might use this when I get a PS5 so I don’t have to rely on redownloading games from the internet. I’m not entirely comfortable with my software not sitting on any of my devices, and it’ll be faster then downloading from the internet. Nice work

No but you can if you install an m2 ssd internally. It's quite easy to do.

So when it’s time to copy that game you have to make sure there’s enough space in your console storage or you can jus move a game to the hard drive to make the space instead of deleting it somebody tell me if I’m making sense 🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️

I just recently finally git myself a ps5 because I was just so into my ps4 and wasn't really feeling the ps5. But I got one now and had to get a external hard drive and this video helped me alot thank you. I never needed any kinda hard drive for my ps4 as 1tb was enough for me. I'm still trying to figure my way through the ps5 though it's very confusing compared too the ps4 imo.

So I can move a game from console storage to extended storage which is fine. But when I select copy it copies back onto the console storage so now the game is on both storages? The point is to take the game off the console storage

you mean to tell me that you got an external hard drive to store ps5 games, but you can’t play games off of the external, so you are forced to make a COPY of the game in order to play it?? completely cancelling out the entire point of having an external storage??

Just got PS5 and hogwarts legacy today and whilst I'm able to download the game easy enough, I can't move the game onto an hard drive. It is saying it's installing but yet the game is installed and I can play it. Can you tell me what I'm doing wrong here please

Question you know you're save data where you can check on you're saved games is to the right on that it says console storage 506.9 gb should I worry about that? Also I have 633.5 free useable space for games as well I'm just worried about the space for save games.

i don't want to copy the game itself i want to copy a games saved file (from "Saved Data and Game/App Settings") the ssd appears there for ps4 games but not ps5 games. is it because the ssd isn't fast enough or is it just something that isn't possible?
