This time we'll learn how to use the slang やばい (YABAI) like a native speaker!
This is one of my favourite Japanese words and you'll hear this a lot from your Japanese friends :D
Can "YABAI" only be used in a negative context??
How to say "Omg / Sh*t I lost my wallet!" and more!

i .candy Yeah, you're right, she could have chosen to cater to your delicate sensibilities instead of teaching us the actual connotations/implications of the words. I personally prefer instead to have more accurate and fluent translations that mirror the realities of the English language. You may have grown up in a nunnery, but most English speakers will swear in casual situations when it's appropriate.

While Im sure there are some good language classes, I think they are just way too technical about it. While learning things like grammar is pretty much mandatory, they shouldnt be the focus IMO. You dont really think about what words to say or what a person youre talking to is saying, you just subconciously speak and understand language, sometimes even making sense out of what doesnt make sense.

I'm not even actively studying Japanese right now, but I watched the video anyways to support Misa. The video production in your videos is seriously amazing (maji de yabai!). Probably my favorite detail is how you use color to show which word means what in your translation and that you have hiragana above kanji for those who are still learning kanji. how I understand it, you can translate やばい as "Great". for example: "great! I lost my wallet!" doesn´t really mean you're happy you lost your wallet. so it can mean "great!" or "sh...", depending on if you use it cynically or not. just like "great!"

Everyone noticing missed profanity censors, and here I am noticing that the romanization of やばい! 負ける! (yabai! makeru!) (3:27) is the same romanization from the previous sentence, "yabai! kagi, kaketa kke". Same happened at 4:52 with 公園にやばい人がいる。(kouen ni yabai hito ga iru). Great educational video though!
