My kind of photographer - you get right to it, you say it in plain English, you're not the least bit pretentious about it, and you sound like you're having fun with photography (as it should be). Rock on!

Politics do distract, but if you do not know what is going on than how do you keep affording cameras if you do not have work in the future? Find another job, but how? If you do not even know what was going on in the first place and where everything went? :P

@@citizensfirst.1518 what? You do know it really doesn't matter what's going on around you if you know what's going on with you. You are able to roll with it regardless, make adjustments and for you, life will continue pretty much as it did before. Happy New year

Been watching CPL based videos for years. VERY FIRST VIDEO where the angle of use is mentioned. NONE of the "popular" channels have mentioned it, at least not the videos of said channels I've watched. I would stated that the CPL does work between 45°-90° not just the mentioned 90°. Moreover, the effect is most powerful when the sun is out not on a completely overcast day, on those days the polarizer can make the shot warmer. Thumbs up!

I've always had this filter in my bag but never really knew what it was for, and just thought it was a cool filter for stronger saturation. Excited to use it to its full potential! Thanks for this video!

For some of the shots people use a CPL for, can be done in post processing like in increasing sky blue and increasing overall color saturation‘s like let’s say for instance if you’re doing the landscape shot

I enjoy the effect of polarizers sometimes but utilizing reflections on glass, water, ice, metal, etc actually plays a pretty big role in the style of photos I like to take. There are times when a polarizer can really come in handy but for what I typically do, I usually stick to a lone ND filter or no filters at all.

@walldoo99

You should clarify that it won't remove reflection, it removes glare. Direct and reflected light travel in a straight line which passes through the lines of the filter, no you can't see the lines. Glare travels in a wave, which the lines can clock to a point. The only way to remove a direct reflection, is to change your angle to the subject.

Understanding Circular Polarizing Lens filters: Light reflected by water surface is horizontally polarized (water itself acts like opposite of polarize filter - instead of letting only one polarization through, it bounces it off). Using a vertical polarization filter filters out the horizontal polarized light reflection therefore you can finally see underwater in photo.

I find it hard to see the difference by eye, when rotating a circular polarizer on a mirrorless camera. Maybe it's the bright sunlight? I rely on the histogram on my Sony cameras, with strongest effect = histogram most to the left. Do you have a better method?

Hey Josh, you mentioned a rather very important issue about how to position yourself with the sun 90° from the sun in order to get the full benefits of the filter... What if the sky is fully overcast and no signs of the actual sun? Is the filter still of any use ??

Love seeing a new video, been a while :D Just a quick question: What focal length did the lens you took the picture at 2:14 with have (assuming you took the picture)? I really want to be able to take photos like this without having to crop too harshly but I'm not sure where to start. I'm guessing it's somewhere between 100-200mm?

Josh, when you say you'll have to correct the settings in your camera, you mean adjusting to get the exposure correct, right? You aren't talking about needing to changing any settings in the Menu. If I have a polarizer on and I have the correct histogram and metering, I could assume that everything is going to turn out correctly.

Good v Bad polarisation! Unexpected laugh that got me to subscribe. Basic question heres. You say you'll lose up to 2 stops and need to adjust the camera settings. Presumably though the camera's light metering will detect that in any auto exposure mode, like with an ND? I'm thinking of buying one for a walking holiday in the Albanian Alps, as I'm taking my old Pentax ME super and may use Kodak Ektar. I'm thinking maybe a CPL will give the extra saturation of slide film, while keeping the dynamic range of negative film?
